In SingleFileZ, enable “auto-save on tab removal” to save a page when you close its tab. Right-click the SingleFileZ toolbar button, open Options or Manage extension, then find the checkbox in the Auto-save section.
Enable auto-save when a tab closes
- Find the SingleFileZ button in your browser toolbar.
- Right-click the button and choose Options or Manage extension to open the extension’s options page.
- Locate the Auto-save section.
- Check “auto-save on tab removal.” SingleFileZ’s help describes this option as saving pages when closing a tab.
If “remove frames” is enabled, SingleFileZ warns that some frame contents may be missing from a page saved on tab removal. This is a possibility, not an outcome for every page.
Apply auto-save only to selected tabs
Instead of enabling the setting for tabs generally, use the toolbar button’s context menu to activate auto-save for the current tab, unpinned tabs, or all tabs. The available scopes are described in the SingleFileZ help.
Do not mix up the similar options
- Auto-save on tab removal is the documented trigger for closing a tab.
- Auto-save on page unload and auto-save on tab discard are separate triggers; they are not the setting for tab closure.
- Auto-close the tab after the page is saved is a different option. It controls whether SingleFileZ closes a tab after saving, rather than whether closing a tab triggers a save.

If the option is missing or behaves differently
Check the installed extension’s options page and context menu first. The project help is maintained on a mutable master branch, and extension-store metadata may not match every browser release or interface. The Firefox Add-ons listing reports SingleFileZ version 1.4.45 and a last-updated date of February 15, 2024; that listing metadata does not establish the current version in every browser.
