To get a notification when Charles Schwab shares reach a level you choose, search for SCHW in the Schwab platform you use, open the quote or chart, select the alert control, specify a direction and numeric threshold, and save it. Schwab Mobile is the quickest route. Schwab.com adds email and wireless-text delivery and criteria such as volume, earnings, dividends, news, and research reports. thinkorswim provides chart-based alerts, while thinkorswim desktop supports additional portfolio, calendar, news, and rating-change conditions.
Alerts are maintained separately by platform. An alert created in Schwab Mobile will not automatically appear in Schwab.com or thinkorswim, so create and test a separate alert anywhere you need coverage.
Choose the Schwab platform that fits your alert
Your login credentials may work across Schwab services, but the alert systems are not one shared list. Use the platform that offers the delivery method and conditions you need.

The fastest choice is Schwab Mobile. If receiving an email or wireless text is essential, use Schwab.com and verify the contact details in your account. If you need conditions beyond a simple quote threshold, thinkorswim desktop has the broadest documented alert categories.

Before you create a SCHW alert
- Have an active Schwab login and access to the platform you intend to use.
- Know the target number and whether you want an alert when price is at or above, at or below, or otherwise satisfies the condition shown by the platform.
- Decide which price type the platform should evaluate. Schwab Mobile presents a price-type choice; select the one that matches your monitoring goal rather than assuming every quote field is equivalent.
- For push, email, or text delivery, allow the relevant notifications on your phone and confirm that Schwab has the correct email address or wireless number.
- Remember that an alert is a notification, not an order. It does not buy or sell SCHW for you.
Set a price alert in Schwab Mobile
Schwab Mobile has the shortest path from a ticker search to a target-price alert.
- Open Schwab Mobile and tap Markets.
- Tap the search control, enter SCHW, and select the Charles Schwab security from the results.
- On the quote-details screen, tap Set an Alert.
- Choose Target price. Select the desired price type and direction, enter the numeric target, and review the condition.
- Tap Set Alert to save it.
The direction matters. A threshold without a direction cannot tell the app whether to notify you on an upward move, a downward move, or another condition. Read the completed condition before saving, especially when the target is close to the current SCHW quote.
Review, edit, or remove a Schwab Mobile alert
- Tap the profile icon.
- Choose Stock Alerts.
- Review open alerts. Open an alert to edit its condition or target, or remove it if it is no longer useful.
- Open Triggered alerts to see alerts that have fired.
Schwab’s tutorial states that successfully triggered Schwab Mobile alerts remain available for up to 30 days. Treat that as a viewing window, not a permanent activity log; save any record you need outside the app.
Other Schwab Mobile alert types
Target price is only one option. Schwab Mobile also supports alerts related to price changes, news, and events. The available choices and delivery settings are presented in the alert workflow. Select only the conditions that answer a specific monitoring question so that frequent low-value notifications do not obscure an important move in SCHW.

Set a SCHW alert on Schwab.com
Schwab.com’s Securities alerts tool is useful when you want an email or wireless-text message, or when your monitoring rule is not limited to price.
- Sign in to Schwab.com.
- Open the SCHW security page or the account area that exposes its Securities alerts controls.
- Select the price criterion for SCHW.
- Enter the condition and threshold. Use the direction and value that match your plan.
- Select email or wireless text message as the delivery channel.
- Save the alert, then return to the alert list to confirm that the condition and destination are correct.
The exact button names can vary with the logged-in account experience. If you cannot find the control on the quote page, look for the Securities alerts area rather than assuming the mobile steps apply to the website.
Non-price criteria on Schwab.com
The Securities alerts tool documents criteria for an individual security including price, volume, earnings, dividend, news, and research reports. For example, you can keep a price threshold for SCHW and a separate alert for an earnings-related event. Each rule should have its own clear purpose and delivery destination; otherwise, a burst of unrelated messages can make it difficult to identify the alert that matters.

Set a SCHW alert in thinkorswim mobile
- Sign in to thinkorswim mobile with your Schwab credentials.
- Open SCHW’s quote or chart.
- Tap the alert or bell icon.
- Choose the trigger condition, such as greater than or equal to.
- Enter your threshold and tap Create Alert.
- Open Settings and enable push notifications and the notification type that should deliver the alert to your device.
The iPhone tutorial uses an example threshold only to demonstrate the controls. Replace that example with your own SCHW value; the tutorial’s number is not a recommendation or a required setting.

Set an alert in thinkorswim desktop
thinkorswim desktop offers the most extensive documented set of alert categories and an Alert Book for reviewing them.
Configure notification destinations first
- Open Application Settings.
- Go to Notifications.
- Confirm your email address and phone details.
- Enable Alert is triggered for the channels you want to use.
- Apply the settings.
Available notification choices described by Schwab include sound, email, text, and the mobile app. Enabling a channel in the desktop application does not override a phone’s operating-system permission; both sides must allow delivery.
Create a price-condition alert
- Open the Monitor area and use the bell icon, or open an SCHW chart, right-click it, and choose Create alert.
- Set the price condition and numeric threshold.
- Choose the notification channels and save the alert.
Review active and triggered alerts
Go to MarketWatch > Alert Book. Use the book to check whether the SCHW rule is active, inspect alerts that have triggered, and identify an incorrect threshold or destination without recreating the rule from scratch.
Other desktop alert categories
Beyond price conditions, thinkorswim desktop supports portfolio-metric, calendar-event, news, and rating-change alerts. These are separate from a basic SCHW target-price rule and require you to define the relevant metric or event in the alert dialog.

Schwab platform updates also document one-cancels-other alerts on thinkorswim desktop. That structure lets two price conditions be paired so that one is canceled when the other fires. Use it only when the two outcomes are intentionally linked; otherwise, independent alerts are easier to audit.
Why a Schwab Mobile alert is missing in thinkorswim
The usual cause is not a failed transfer. Schwab explicitly says that Schwab Mobile alerts are not synchronized with alerts on thinkorswim or Schwab.com. Each platform maintains its own alert workflow and list.
If you need the same SCHW threshold in two places, recreate it on each platform:

- Create the equivalent rule in the second platform using its own steps.
- Check the second platform’s alert list or Alert Book to verify that it is active.
- Keep the rules aligned when you edit or delete one; changing a Mobile alert does not update the website or thinkorswim copy.
Make sure notifications actually arrive
Push notifications
- In Schwab Mobile or thinkorswim mobile, confirm the alert is listed as open or active.
- In the phone’s operating-system settings, allow notifications for the relevant Schwab app.
- Check that the app’s own Settings page has push notifications and the applicable notification type enabled.
- Review focus, do-not-disturb, battery-saving, and background-data settings that could suppress delivery.
Email and wireless text
- On Schwab.com or thinkorswim desktop, confirm the destination address or wireless number.
- Verify that the desired channel is selected for the individual alert and that global notification settings permit triggered alerts.
- Check spam, junk, blocked-sender, and carrier-message filters.
- If a phone number or email changed, update the account details and then recheck the saved alert.
Validate the rule itself
- Confirm the symbol is SCHW, not a similarly named security.
- Read the comparison direction and threshold together. A rule set for greater than or equal to will not notify on a move below the target.
- Check the selected price type, because the evaluated value may differ from another quote field you are watching.
- Look at the platform’s open, triggered, or Alert Book list to determine whether the rule fired already, was edited, or was removed.
Do not infer that an absent notification means the market never met your number. First verify the exact condition, price type, destination, and alert status in the platform where you created it.

Build useful SCHW thresholds without creating noise
Use separate rules for separate decisions
A single target can answer one question: has SCHW reached this level under the selected price type and direction? If you also care about a news event, earnings, dividend information, or volume, create a separate rule for that criterion where the platform supports it. Keeping each rule narrow makes the message understandable and simplifies troubleshooting.
Choose an unambiguous direction
For an upward notification, use the platform’s at-or-above or equivalent condition. For a downside notification, use the at-or-below or equivalent condition. Avoid relying on memory after a volatile session; inspect the saved rule’s wording in the alert list.
Account for duplicate coverage
Creating the same threshold on Mobile, Schwab.com, and both thinkorswim apps can produce multiple messages. Duplicate the rule only when you deliberately want backup channels or separate workflows. Otherwise, choose one primary platform and one fallback.

An alert that was useful before an earnings date, portfolio change, or research update may no longer be relevant afterward. Periodically open the platform’s alert list and remove stale conditions. On Schwab Mobile, remember that triggered entries are retained for up to 30 days, so do not use that screen as a complete long-term history.
Quick troubleshooting decision tree
- Is SCHW missing from the alert list? Check the same platform where you created it. If you are looking in another Schwab service, recreate it there because lists do not synchronize.
- Is the alert present but silent? Check its direction, threshold, and selected price type, then verify push, email, or text permissions.
- Did it trigger but you cannot find the message? Check the platform’s triggered-alert view, Alert Book, spam folder, and phone notification history.
- Did you receive too many messages? Remove duplicate rules across platforms and separate price alerts from news, event, or volume rules.
- Are labels different from these instructions? Schwab can change the logged-in interface. Look for the equivalent Markets, Securities alerts, bell, Notifications, Stock Alerts, or Alert Book control rather than assuming an identical screen.
What a SCHW price alert can—and cannot—do
- It can notify you when the selected condition and threshold are met according to the platform’s chosen price type.
- It can deliver through channels made available and enabled on that platform, including push, email, wireless text, sound, or the mobile app.
- It can be paired with other criteria, such as news or events, where the platform provides them.
- It does not synchronize automatically across Schwab Mobile, Schwab.com, and thinkorswim.
- It does not place a trade or guarantee execution at the alert threshold.
- It should not be treated as a permanent record of every alert, particularly because Schwab Mobile’s tutorial says triggered alerts are retained for up to 30 days.
Final checklist
- Search for SCHW and select the correct security.
- Open the quote, chart, or Securities alerts control on the platform you intend to use.
- Set a direction, price type where offered, and numeric threshold.
- Select and authorize the delivery channel.
- Confirm the saved rule in Stock Alerts, the platform’s alert list, or Alert Book.
- Repeat the setup on every other Schwab platform where you need the notification.
For the shortest setup, use Schwab Mobile’s Markets search and Set an Alert control. Use Schwab.com when email or wireless text and broader security criteria are important, and use thinkorswim—especially desktop—when you need chart, portfolio, calendar, news, rating, or linked-condition alerts.
