To set a TradingView price alert, open a Superchart, choose Create alert, set the condition to Price, select an operator such as Crossing up or Less than, enter your level, choose how often it may trigger, select delivery channels, and create it. You can then pause, edit, or delete the alert in Alert manager; triggered events remain available in Alerts Log.
This guide explains every setting that affects when an alert fires and how it reaches you, including phone push notifications, browser toasts, email, sound, and webhooks.
What a TradingView price alert does
A price alert watches the selected symbol and compares its live value with a threshold you define. When the chosen relationship occurs, TradingView can notify you in the app, in a browser, by email, with a sound, or through a webhook to another service. Alerts work on the web version and in the desktop and mobile apps.

An alert is not an order. It does not buy or sell an asset, guarantee a fill, or manage risk for you. It simply reports that the configured condition was met. Before creating one, select the exact symbol, exchange or market data feed, and chart timeframe relevant to your decision.

Before you create an alert
- Sign in to the TradingView account that should own and receive the alert.
- Open the latest TradingView mobile app if you want phone push notifications, and sign in there as well.
- For browser toasts, allow notifications when your browser asks for permission.
- For phone alerts, allow notifications for the TradingView app in your operating system settings.
- For a webhook, prepare an HTTPS or HTTP endpoint that accepts an HTTP POST and ensure two-factor authentication is enabled on your TradingView account.
Interface names, plan entitlements, alert quotas, mobile behavior, and webhook policies can change. If a label or option differs in your account, use the wording currently shown in the alert dialog and Alert manager.
How to create a basic price alert
- Open Supercharts and select the symbol. Confirm that the ticker and market are correct. A similarly named symbol can represent a different exchange or instrument.
- Open the alert dialog. Use Create alert in the upper toolbar, open Alert manager and choose the create control, right-click the chart and choose the alert command, or use the plus control beside the price scale.
- Set the primary condition to Price. This makes the alert compare the symbol’s price with a numeric level rather than with an indicator or drawing.
- Choose the operator. Select Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than, or Less than. The differences are explained below.
- Enter the threshold. Use the price level at which you need a notification. Check the instrument’s decimal precision and quote currency before saving.
- Set trigger frequency. Choose Only once, Every time, Once per bar close, or Once per minute. Frequency controls how often a condition can produce notifications after it becomes true.
- Set an expiration. Choose an expiration date when you want the alert to stop automatically. Where the interface offers it, choose an open-ended alert when it should continue until you stop it manually.
- Name the alert and write a message. Use a name that identifies the symbol, level, and purpose. Put the action context in the message so it remains understandable in a notification or log.
- Select delivery channels. Enable the channels you need, such as in-app notification, toast, email, sound, plain text, or webhook.
- Create the alert. Verify the condition, frequency, expiration, and channels in the summary before confirming.
Choosing the right price operator
The operator determines the direction and type of movement that qualifies. These choices are not interchangeable.
| Operator | What it means | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Crossing | Triggers when the value reaches the level from either direction. | Use when a move through a level matters whether price approaches from above or below. |
| Crossing up | Requires movement from below to the threshold. | Use for an upside breakout or reclaim of resistance. |
| Crossing down | Requires movement from above to the threshold. | Use for a downside break or loss of support. |
| Greater than | Triggers after price rises above the threshold. | Use when you care about remaining above a level rather than the instant of a crossing. |
| Less than | Triggers after price falls below the threshold. | Use for a downside boundary, risk limit, or lower entry zone. |
Crossing versus greater than or less than
Choose a crossing operator for an event at the boundary. Choose Greater than or Less than when the state of being above or below the boundary is what matters. For example, a crossing-up alert can identify the first move through resistance, while a greater-than alert expresses that price has moved above the level and satisfies that condition.
Trigger frequency and expiration
Only once
Only once is appropriate for a one-time event, such as a notification that a level was reached. After it fires, it will not continue generating events.
Every time
Every time allows the condition to trigger repeatedly whenever the configured relationship occurs. Use it cautiously around volatile prices, because repeated crossings can generate many notifications.
Once per bar close
Once per bar close waits for the current chart bar to finish before evaluating the alert event. This can reduce notifications caused by intrabar price movement, but it also means the message arrives after the bar closes.

Once per minute
Once per minute limits notifications to a minute-based cadence. It is useful when you want recurring monitoring without a message on every tick or repeated intrabar change.

Expiration choices
Set an expiration date when the alert is tied to a session, trade plan, or news event. An open-ended alert, when available in your interface, continues until you pause or delete it. Always review expiration in Alert manager; a correctly configured condition will still appear inactive after its end date.
How to get TradingView alerts on your phone
- Install the latest TradingView app from your device’s official app store.
- Sign in with the same TradingView account used to create or manage the alert.
- In the phone’s operating-system settings, open the app’s notification permissions and allow notifications. Also check Focus, Do Not Disturb, battery-saver, and background restrictions if your phone uses them.
- In TradingView, create or edit the alert and enable Notify in App or the push-notification option shown in the alert dialog.
- Trigger a harmless test alert, if practical, to confirm that the phone displays it while the app is closed.
TradingView’s Android and iOS help guidance states that alerts created on mobile enable push notifications by default. Android guidance also states that push notifications are available to all users regardless of plan type. The alert checkbox in TradingView and the operating system’s permission are both required: enabling only one does not guarantee delivery.
When phone notifications do not arrive
- Confirm the alert is active rather than paused or expired in Alert manager.
- Check that Notify in App or push is enabled for that specific alert.
- Recheck the phone’s app-level permission after an operating-system update.
- Disable battery optimization or background restrictions that prevent the app from receiving notifications.
- Verify that you are signed in to the correct TradingView account and that the alert belongs to that account.
Browser, desktop, email, and sound notifications
The alert dialog can offer several delivery methods. Enable more than one channel when the notification is time-sensitive, but remember that each channel has its own permission or availability requirements.
| Channel | What you receive | Requirement or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| In-app | An alert inside TradingView. | You must be signed in to the relevant app or session. |
| Toast | A browser or desktop pop-up. | Your browser or operating system must permit notifications. |
| An email containing the alert details. | Use an account email you monitor; delivery can be affected by mail filtering. | |
| Sound | An audible notification. | Device volume, tab mute state, and operating-system audio settings must allow it. |
| Plain text | The alert message as text for the selected destination. | Useful when a receiving system does not need structured JSON. |
| Webhook | An HTTP POST sent to your endpoint. | Requires a reachable endpoint, valid payload handling, and two-factor authentication. |
Browser toast permissions
If toast notifications are selected but no pop-up appears, open the browser’s site-permission settings for TradingView and change notifications from blocked to allowed. Check that the browser is not in a mode that suppresses background or quiet notifications.
Email and sound checks
For email, check the address associated with your TradingView account and inspect spam, junk, and filtering rules. For sound, verify that the device is not muted and that the browser tab, desktop app, or operating system has not silenced TradingView.

How to configure a TradingView webhook
A webhook sends an HTTP POST to an external application when the alert triggers. TradingView describes it as a way to notify your external app about an alert event.
- Prepare a public endpoint that accepts POST requests and responds promptly.
- In the alert dialog, enable the webhook delivery option and enter the endpoint URL.
- Write the message your receiving service should process. If you send valid JSON, TradingView sends it with the
application/jsoncontent type. - Save the alert and monitor your receiving application’s logs when the condition triggers.
Webhook requests are limited to ports 80 and 443. TradingView cancels a request that takes more than three seconds, so your endpoint should acknowledge quickly and perform slower work asynchronously. Two-factor authentication is required for webhook alerts.
Do not place passwords, API keys, or other sensitive credentials in the webhook body. Treat the message as data that may be exposed in logs or transit and authenticate the receiving service using a safer design, such as a restricted endpoint and server-side verification.

Alerts Log
Triggered events appear in Alerts Log. Use it to verify whether an alert actually fired, inspect the event history, and distinguish a delivery problem from a condition that never occurred. The log can be exported to CSV for record keeping or further analysis.
Editing without losing the intent
When editing, recheck all dependent fields rather than changing only the threshold. A change from Crossing up to Crossing, for example, changes the direction that qualifies. Changing frequency or expiration can also materially change the number and timing of notifications.

One-time upside level
For a single notification when price moves from below to a resistance level, choose Price → Crossing up, enter the level, select Only once, set an expiration appropriate to the trade plan, and enable phone push or email.
Downside boundary
To monitor a support or risk boundary from above, choose Crossing down. Use Once per bar close when you want the completed candle to confirm the move rather than reacting to an intrabar dip.
Either-direction level
When the important event is any move through a level, regardless of direction, choose Crossing. Select Every time only when repeated moves are useful; otherwise, use Only once to avoid repeated messages.

Troubleshooting alerts that seem wrong
The alert fired in the opposite direction
Check the operator. Crossing allows movement from either side, while Crossing up and Crossing down are directional. Edit the alert and choose the directional operator that matches your plan.
The alert fired more than once
Inspect frequency. Every time is designed to permit repeated events. Replace it with Only once, or use a bar-close or minute-based frequency when recurring monitoring is needed but tick-by-tick messages are not.
The alert did not fire during a brief spike
Review whether the alert was set to Once per bar close. A price can reach a level during a bar and finish back below it; a close-based setting may not notify for that intrabar move. Also verify that the alert was active and had not expired at the time.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The notification arrived but the chart looks different
Confirm the exact symbol, exchange, and data feed used when the alert was created. Two instruments with similar tickers can have different prices. Check the alert’s condition and message in Alert manager.
The webhook was not received
- Confirm the endpoint is publicly reachable on port 80 or 443.
- Make sure it accepts POST and responds within three seconds.
- Validate the message format, especially JSON syntax and the
application/jsoncontent type. - Check server, firewall, and application logs for rejected requests.
- Verify two-factor authentication is enabled on the TradingView account.
- Remove passwords and other sensitive values from the body, then use a safer authentication method on the receiving service.
A maintenance checklist for dependable alerts
- Review every active alert after changing symbols, trading plans, or time horizons.
- Use names that include the symbol, level, direction, and purpose.
- Set expiration dates for temporary ideas so stale alerts do not remain active.
- Use Only once for one-time decisions and reserve Every time for conditions where repeated events are intentional.
- Confirm phone, browser, email, sound, or webhook permissions after changing devices or operating-system settings.
- Check Alerts Log periodically and export it to CSV when you need an audit trail.
- For automation, keep webhook processing fast, validate incoming data, and never include secrets in alert messages.
Key points to remember
Start with the Price condition and choose the operator that matches the direction you care about. Frequency and expiration determine how often and how long the alert can run. Phone delivery requires both TradingView’s push setting and the phone’s operating-system permission. Webhooks are integrations, not ordinary notifications: they need a reachable endpoint, valid payload handling, a three-second response window, ports 80 or 443, and two-factor authentication. Alert manager and Alerts Log are the places to maintain alerts and verify what happened.
