For a 1080p YouTube Live stream using H.264, set OBS to 10,000 kbps at 30 fps or 12,000 kbps at 60 fps. YouTube’s live-encoder recommendations also call for CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Indian internet connection can sustain the stream; test your upload and the actual broadcast before relying on it.
Choose the bitrate for your frame rate
YouTube’s live-encoder recommendations for H.264 distinguish between these two 1080p outputs:
| OBS output | YouTube recommended video bitrate | YouTube minimum video bitrate | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps (10,000 kbps) | 5 Mbps | Lower system and bandwidth demand than 60 fps; suitable when 30 fps meets the look of the content. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps (12,000 kbps) | 6 Mbps | Smoother motion, but OBS notes that 60 fps can put more demand on the streaming system. |
The figures are YouTube-published live-ingestion recommendations, accessed in 2026, not settings for uploading a finished video. YouTube’s separate upload-video table gives different values and should not be substituted for live streaming. The cited recommendations do not specify an India-only multiplier, ISP, or fixed upload-speed cushion.
Set up OBS for a 1080p YouTube Live stream
1. Set the output resolution and frame rate
- In OBS, open Settings → Video.
- Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080 if that is the resolution you intend to send to YouTube.
- Set Common FPS Value to either 30 or 60. Use the matching bitrate from the table above.
Choose 60 fps only if the source content benefits from smoother motion and your computer can encode it reliably. OBS recommends testing in advance because 60 fps can be more taxing than 30 fps.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
2. Set the live encoder and bitrate
- Open Settings → Output and select Advanced output mode if needed to expose the live encoder controls.
- In the streaming section, choose an available encoder and set the video bitrate to 10,000 Kbps for 1080p30 or 12,000 Kbps for 1080p60 when using H.264.
- Set Rate Control to CBR, YouTube’s recommended live setting.
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as live encoder options. The 10 and 12 Mbps values here are specifically its H.264 recommendations; do not assume those figures are equivalent recommendations for the other codecs.
3. Set keyframes, protocol and audio
- Set the keyframe interval or frequency to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. If you change frame rate, check that keyframes still arrive every two seconds.
- Use RTMPS where available; YouTube recommends it for live ingest.
- For audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as supported options. Choose an audio setup compatible with your encoder and stream.
Test the connection and the actual loop
- Run a speed test that measures upload capacity. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate; an advertised internet-plan speed alone does not establish that the connection will hold a live stream steadily.
- Start a test stream before the intended broadcast. Include motion and audio similar to the loop you plan to run, rather than testing only a static screen.
- Check YouTube’s stream health during the test. If the stream is unstable or reports dropped frames, reduce the bitrate, lower the frame rate, or reduce the output resolution, then test again.
- Repeat under conditions that resemble the actual broadcast. No universal India-specific speed threshold or guaranteed margin is established by the cited guidance.
A mostly static loop may look acceptable at a lower bitrate, but that depends on the footage and should be judged in a test. YouTube’s published recommendation is based on ingest resolution, frame rate and codec, not on whether the live content is a loop. The cited material does not establish that a loop will continue indefinitely without interruption.

Common problems and fixes
YouTube reports an unstable stream or dropped frames
The connection may not be sustaining the selected bitrate. Test upload capacity and the real stream, then reduce bitrate or step down from 60 to 30 fps or from 1080p to a lower output resolution. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance also recommends addressing dropped frames rather than assuming the stream is stable because the speed-test result looks high.
The image looks poor despite a stable stream
Confirm that OBS is sending 1920×1080 and that the bitrate matches the selected frame rate and codec. Fast motion can be more demanding than static scenes, so assess quality using footage representative of the loop.

The stream fails after changing frame rate
Recheck the keyframe interval. YouTube’s error guidance says that changing frame rate also requires setting keyframes to arrive every two seconds.
The bitrate fields or encoder controls are missing
In OBS, switch to Settings → Output and use Advanced output mode to expose streaming controls. Interface labels may vary by OBS version.
