To set an alert for one NSE-listed stock, the simplest route is the official NSEIndia mobile app: search for the symbol, open its quote page, select the alert control, choose LTP for a price condition or Volume for a volume condition, enter the condition offered by the current app, and save it. You can create alerts from the Main Menu, a Get Quote page, or a Watchlist, then monitor them in Active Alerts and Triggered Alerts. The app sends a notification when the saved criteria are met.
If you need conditions such as delivery, moving averages, breakouts, results or corporate actions, use a platform that documents those fields, such as Trendlyne. A broker app can also provide alerts, but its menu names and available conditions vary. None of these alerts places an order for you, and SEBI transaction SMS or email messages are different from user-defined market alerts.
What an NSE stock alert does
An alert watches a condition for a selected security and tells you when the condition is met. A price alert is normally tied to the stock’s last traded price (LTP), while a volume alert watches the volume field exposed by the app. The notification is an event message; it is not a buy or sell order, a price guarantee, or confirmation that you received a fill.

The official NSEIndia app lists personalised alerts for LTP, Day Change, Day Change %, and Volume. Its listing describes them as “Personalised Stock Alerts: Set alerts for LTP, Day Change, Day Change %, and Volume.” You can read the current feature description in the NSEIndia App Store listing. NSE’s mobile-app page also documents search, watchlists, stock details and quote information.

Alert labels and behavior can change when the app is updated. Use the exact choices shown on your device rather than assuming that another version has the same fields. The published material does not establish a universal delivery-time guarantee or a standard volume-spike formula.
Choose the right alert route
| Route | Documented trigger fields | Where you create it | Notification and management | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NSEIndia app | LTP, Day Change, Day Change %, Volume | Main Menu, Get Quote page or Watchlist | Notifications when criteria are met; separate Active Alerts and Triggered Alerts views | Direct NSE-focused price or volume monitoring |
| Broker app (ICICI Direct example) | Broker-defined fields; the exact set is not universal | For a holding: Portfolio → stock → Set Alert. For a non-held stock: Account → Settings → Direct Alerts → Set Alerts | Broker-defined; follow that app’s confirmation and alert screens | Keeping alerts beside your portfolio and orders |
| Trendlyne | Price, Moving Averages, Volume and Delivery, breakouts or breakdowns past Resistance and Support, upcoming and live Results, Corporate Actions | Portfolio or Watchlist alert tools | Platform-defined alerts; consult its current settings for delivery channels | Rules that need technical, delivery, event or corporate-action conditions |
The NSEIndia route is the most direct when you only need a stock-level LTP or volume trigger. A broker route is convenient if you already maintain a watchlist or holdings there. A richer alert platform is appropriate when a single price threshold is not enough.
Set a price or volume alert in the NSEIndia app
1. Install or update the official app
Install the NSEIndia app from the official store and update it before configuring alerts. Sign in if the app requests authentication. Confirm that your phone allows notifications for the app; a saved alert can still be active when operating-system permissions block its message.
2. Find the exact NSE security
Use Search and enter the NSE symbol. Check the company name and exchange context before proceeding, especially when two companies have similar names. You can also add the symbol to a Watchlist and open it there. The app’s quote workflow is designed to show price movements and detailed quote information for the selected stock.
3. Open the quote and alert control
Open the stock’s Get Quote or details page. Alternatively, open the alert entry from the Main Menu, or start from the symbol in a Watchlist. The available control may be labelled “Set Alert” or use an alert icon; rely on the current interface label.
4. Select the field that matches your question
- LTP: choose this when you want a notification tied to a price level or price condition.
- Volume: choose this when you want a notification tied to the volume condition offered by the app.
- Day Change or Day Change %: choose one of these when your rule concerns the stock’s change during the trading day rather than a fixed LTP.
For a price alert, enter the threshold and direction presented by the app, such as an above or below condition if those choices are shown. For a volume alert, enter the value or rule the current screen accepts. Public documentation names the field “Volume” but does not say whether every app version supports only an absolute share count, a relative-volume multiple, a time-window rule, or a combination. Do not infer a formula from the label.

- As a day trader, you can live and work anywhere in the world. You can decide when to work and when not to work.
- You only answer to yourself. That is the life of the successful day trader. Many people aspire to it, but very few succeed. Day trading is not gambling or an online poker game.
- To be successful at day trading you need the right tools and you need to be motivated, to work hard, and to persevere.
5. Save and verify
Submit or save the alert. Open Active Alerts and confirm that the symbol, field, condition and threshold are correct. A typo in the symbol or an unintended direction is easier to fix before the market reaches the level.
6. Check the result after triggering
When the criteria are met, the app says it sends a notification. Open Triggered Alerts to review the event. If you expected a message but see a trigger in the app, check phone notification permission, battery-saver restrictions, background-data settings, network connectivity and whether the app is signed into the intended account.
Useful NSEIndia alert examples
Price crossing an upper level
Suppose you are following one NSE symbol and want to know when its LTP reaches a level you have selected. Open the symbol, choose LTP, select the upward or “above” condition shown by the app, enter your level and save. Treat the number as your monitoring point, not as an execution instruction. The alert does not reserve shares or guarantee that an order placed after the notification will execute at that price.
Price falling below a level
For a downside notification, choose LTP and the downward or “below” option if it is offered. Verify the direction in Active Alerts. A below-level alert can be useful for reviewing a risk limit, but it does not replace a broker’s order-management or stop-loss feature.
Volume condition
Choose Volume from the same alert control and follow the input format displayed by the current app. If it asks for a number, enter the number in the unit and format shown. If it offers a choice of conditions or periods, read each label before saving. Because the public description does not publish a common formula, avoid describing your setting as “two times average volume” unless the app explicitly gives you that option.

Day Change and Day Change % are listed alert fields alongside LTP and Volume. Use them when the question is about the stock’s movement for the day, rather than whether LTP touched a particular rupee level. Confirm whether the app asks for a positive or negative value and whether the condition is above or below.

Manage, edit and remove alerts
Use Active Alerts as your control list. Review it after changing a watchlist, a threshold or a trading plan. If the app provides an edit action, open the alert, change the condition and save; otherwise, delete the old entry and create a new one. Keep the list limited to alerts you still act on so an important notification is not lost among stale symbols.
After a trigger, inspect Triggered Alerts for the recorded event and time shown by the app. Decide whether to leave the original alert active, edit it for a new level or remove it. Do not assume that one trigger automatically creates a continuing series of notifications; the current interface determines whether an alert is one-time or remains active.
Use a broker app when the alert belongs with your portfolio
Broker workflows are not standardized, so menu names in one app should not be presented as a universal path. ICICI Direct documents two examples in its specific-stock alert instructions:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- For a stock you hold: open Portfolio, select the stock, choose Set Alert, enter the requested details and submit.
- For a stock you do not hold: open Account → Settings → Direct Alerts → Set Alerts, complete the details and submit.
In another broker’s app, look for an alert action on the quote page, watchlist, portfolio or settings area. Confirm whether the broker’s alert is based on LTP, a percentage move, a technical indicator or another field, and check whether the alert remains active after firing. Broker notifications may use push messages, email, SMS or an in-app inbox according to that broker’s settings; the NSEIndia documentation does not make broker behavior universal.
A broker alert can sit close to your holdings and order screen, but proximity also creates a common mistake: treating a notification as an instruction to trade immediately. Read the stock, exchange, direction and threshold in the message before taking any action.
Use richer conditions when LTP and Volume are not enough
Trendlyne documents live portfolio and watchlist alerts for Price, Moving Averages, Volume and Delivery, breakouts or breakdowns past Resistance and Support, Upcoming and Live Results, and Corporate Actions. Its alert help page explains that broader set of conditions.

When to choose an advanced alert
- Use a moving-average condition when the event is a relationship between price and a calculated average, not a fixed rupee value.
- Use Volume and Delivery when both trading activity and delivery information matter to your rule.
- Use a breakout or breakdown condition when crossing defined support or resistance is the event you want to monitor.
- Use Results or Corporate Actions when an upcoming announcement, live result or company event is more relevant than an intraday price touch.
These conditions can reduce the need to maintain many separate LTP alerts, but they also require you to understand the indicator or event definition used by the platform. Review the condition details, look at the active-alert list and verify how the platform reports a trigger before relying on it for a time-sensitive decision.
Do not confuse market alerts with transaction alerts
SEBI’s investor guidance says investors can receive free SMS and email alerts for trading or transaction activity in their trading and demat accounts when their mobile number and email address are kept current with their stock broker and depository participant. These messages report account activity; they are not user-defined instructions such as “tell me when this stock crosses ₹X” or “tell me when volume reaches Y.” Read the SEBI SMS and email alert guidance for that distinction.
NSE’s trade-verification guidance similarly describes end-of-day transaction details sent to registered contact information. Keep those contact details updated so you can detect unauthorized or unexpected activity, but do not expect this service to monitor a price or volume threshold.
NSE Clearing’s SMS subscription page is aimed at members and lists operational messages such as margins, collateral and risk events. It is not an individual-stock price/volume alert service for ordinary investors.
Notification reliability and timing: what is and is not established
The published NSEIndia feature description says notifications are sent when criteria are met, but it does not publish an alert-success rate, a maximum delivery delay or a guaranteed timestamp. Mobile networks, operating-system restrictions, connectivity, exchange data flow and app maintenance can affect when you see a message. For a time-sensitive decision, open the app and verify the trigger rather than acting on a notification preview alone.

There is also no published universal volume-threshold formula. A “volume alert” may be implemented differently across app versions and services. Record the exact field and condition you selected, including any period or comparison shown on screen, so you know what event the alert actually represents.

Troubleshoot an alert that did not appear
The alert is missing from Active Alerts
- Return to the stock’s quote page and confirm that you saved the alert rather than leaving the form.
- Check that you are signed into the same account or profile used to create it.
- Search for the exact NSE symbol again; similarly named securities can lead to the wrong quote.
- Recreate the alert if the app was updated while the form was open.
The condition was met but no phone notification arrived
- Enable notifications for NSEIndia in the phone’s system settings.
- Allow background activity and remove battery-saver restrictions for the app.
- Check Wi-Fi or mobile-data connectivity and open the app to see whether the event appears in Triggered Alerts.
- Confirm that the threshold direction and field are correct; an LTP condition is not the same as a Day Change or Volume condition.
The message arrived at an unexpected time
- Compare the message with the event recorded in Triggered Alerts.
- Check whether you created multiple alerts for the same symbol or left an older threshold active.
- Review the app’s current condition wording, particularly for day-based fields and volume periods.
You expected a trade to happen
An alert only informs you that a condition was detected. Open your broker’s order screen and place an order yourself if that is appropriate, after checking available liquidity, order type, price and risk. No alert described here promises execution at the trigger level.
Build a practical alert plan for one stock
Start with one clear event
Write the event in plain language before opening the app: “Notify me when this symbol’s LTP is above my review level,” “notify me when it falls below my review level,” or “notify me when the Volume condition reaches the value I specify.” This prevents selecting a day-change field when you intended a price threshold.
Use a small number of meaningful levels
Several nearby thresholds can produce a stream of messages without adding useful information. Keep only levels that correspond to a decision, such as reviewing a thesis, checking a filing or reassessing risk. Remove an alert after the underlying reason no longer applies.
Document the setting
In a note or portfolio journal, record the symbol, field, direction, threshold, date created and intended action. Include whether the condition came from NSEIndia, your broker or an advanced-alert service. This is especially important for Volume because the public documentation does not define one universal calculation.
Pair the alert with verification
When notified, open the quote page and check the latest LTP, volume information, market status and any relevant company announcement. An alert identifies a condition; it does not explain why the condition occurred or whether it will persist.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Choosing the wrong security: verify the NSE symbol and company name before saving.
- Confusing LTP with day change: LTP is a price field; Day Change and Day Change % describe the session move.
- Assuming “Volume” means relative volume: use only the comparison and period explicitly offered by the current interface.
- Expecting transaction SMS to act as a market trigger: SEBI and NSE transaction messages report account activity.
- Assuming an alert is an order: no notification reserves shares or guarantees an execution price.
- Ignoring inactive or duplicate alerts: review Active Alerts and delete obsolete entries.
- Relying on a phone banner without verification: confirm the event in the app, especially when the decision is time-sensitive.
Which method should you use?
Choose the NSEIndia app when your requirement is a straightforward individual-stock LTP, Day Change, Day Change % or Volume alert and you want an NSE-specific workflow. Choose your broker’s alert tool when you want the notification next to your holdings and order workflow, after checking that broker’s current fields and channels. Choose an advanced alert platform when your rule depends on delivery, moving averages, support or resistance breaks, results or corporate actions.
Whichever route you select, verify the current labels, save the alert, confirm it is listed as active and understand what the trigger does not do. Alerts are monitoring tools; they do not replace independent analysis, account-security messages or order controls.
