There is no Hindi-specific font switch in wkhtmltoimage; font selection is handled through CSS and the fonts available to the rendering process.
How Hindi font rendering works in wkhtmltoimage
Hindi is written in the Devanagari script, so the font must cover the characters on your page and render their combinations correctly. wkhtmltoimage converts HTML to an image. Its documented options include a user stylesheet and input encoding, but not a Hindi font selector; specify the family in CSS instead. See the Ubuntu Noble wkhtmltoimage manpage.
The renderer also needs to be able to discover the font at runtime. The wkhtmltopdf project notes that system fonts and fontconfig/FreeType remain relevant even with static Qt builds. Installing a font on your workstation will not help if the deployed renderer runs in a container, worker, or serverless environment without that font. Install a Devanagari font in the renderer’s Ubuntu environment
Noto Sans Devanagari and Lohit Devanagari are candidate font families. Their availability and package names depend on the Ubuntu release. Check the package records for the release used by your image before copying an installation command; do not assume an older Ubuntu package name applies to a current system.

Identify the Ubuntu release and the environment that actually runs
wkhtmltoimage. -
Choose an available package that provides a Devanagari font, such as Noto Sans Devanagari or Lohit Devanagari, and install it in that environment using the package name confirmed for that release.

Ensure the rendering process can discover the installed fonts through its system font configuration. If you deploy a container or worker, include the font there rather than relying on a host-machine installation.

Confirm the family name you intend to use matches the installed font, then use that name in your CSS.

Set the font in HTML or a user stylesheet
Put the font family on the element containing the Hindi text, or on a parent element that supplies its inherited styling. Include fallback families so other characters can still be rendered if the preferred family is unavailable.

</html>Replace the preferred family with the exact family you installed. If the HTML is styled separately, pass a user stylesheet using the option documented by your installed wkhtmltoimage version. Set the input encoding to UTF-8 when needed, and ensure the HTML itself is saved as UTF-8. The Ubuntu manpage documents both user stylesheets and input encoding.

Verify the actual image output
Do not judge the setup only by how the page looks in a desktop browser. Render representative text with the exact Ubuntu release and wkhtmltoimage binary used in production, then inspect the resulting image against a known-correct rendering.
Your sample should include the kinds of text your page actually uses: independent vowels, consonant-vowel combinations, conjuncts, vowel marks (matras), and punctuation. This catches problems that a sample containing only simple standalone characters may miss.

Diagnose missing characters versus malformed shaping
Missing glyphs or empty boxes
First check whether the font is installed in the renderer’s runtime and discoverable through its font configuration. Then verify that the CSS family name corresponds to the installed family and that a fallback is available. These symptoms point toward font availability or glyph coverage, though the rendered output is the evidence to rely on.

Characters appear, but marks or conjuncts look wrong
Font installation alone may not fix shaping problems. A wkhtmltopdf issue filed on February 9, 2021 reported a specific short-i shaping problem with Noto Sans Devanagari in wkhtmltopdf 0.12.6 with patched Qt. The report concerned a particular setup, not every Ubuntu build or Hindi string; it is a reason to test your own renderer rather than assume the font is at fault. See the wkhtmltopdf issue report.
Collect details when the output is still wrong
Record the Ubuntu release, the output of wkhtmltoimage --version, how the binary was obtained, and a minimal Hindi HTML sample. Compare that image with a current browser rendering to help distinguish a font-discovery problem from a renderer/build-specific shaping issue.
Version and build differences to keep in mind
The wkhtmltopdf project identifies 0.12.6 as its stable series and dates its release to June 11, 2020. The Ubuntu Noble manpage identifies its packaged wkhtmltoimage version as 0.12.6-2build2. Those details describe the cited project and Ubuntu release; check your own system because package versions and build behavior vary by distribution.
