YouTube schedules the broadcast; OBS supplies the video and audio. There is no documented built-in link that automatically maps a YouTube event schedule to an OBS playlist.
How the YouTube and OBS scheduling layers work
YouTube’s Live Control Room creates an upcoming broadcast and provides the event details an encoder needs to connect. YouTube says, “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder)
OBS handles the production feed: scenes, sources, and media. Its VLC Video source can contain multiple playlist items and offers loop, shuffle, and visibility behavior controls. The official documentation does not describe choosing an OBS playlist automatically based on which YouTube event is scheduled.
Set up a different playlist for each scheduled broadcast
- Switch to the intended YouTube channel. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, then Schedule Stream. Create a new event or reuse one for that channel. YouTube’s current help page documents scheduling and connecting an encoder; exact interface labels may change.
- Keep a clear record of the pairing. Note the channel, event, planned time, and intended OBS scene or playlist. This simple mapping helps prevent sending the right media to the wrong event.
- Build the playlist in OBS. Add a VLC Video source for the playlist, or create a separate scene for each playlist and layout. Install VLC Media Player first; if you use 64-bit OBS, the OBS Project says to use 64-bit VLC. In the source’s playlist controls, leave shuffle off for a fixed sequence and enable looping only if you want the playlist to repeat.
- Connect OBS to the matching YouTube broadcast. At stream time, use that event’s stream URL and key in OBS, or use YouTube’s supported account integration and select the intended broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting with the stream URL and key.
- Verify both sides before going live. Confirm the selected OBS scene and media, then check that OBS is connected to the intended channel and event. A wrong scene can send the wrong playlist; mismatched event credentials can send the feed to a different broadcast.
Repeat the YouTube event setup for every channel. Matching each event to its OBS playlist is a practical consequence of YouTube’s event-and-encoder workflow, not a documented cross-channel playlist scheduler.

Schedule playlist changes within one continuous livestream
If a single broadcast should change from a morning playlist to an afternoon playlist, organize each time block as a separate scene or source arrangement in OBS. You can switch scenes manually at the planned time. This is different from scheduling separate YouTube events: the broadcast remains one event while OBS changes what it sends.
A third-party article dated October 3, 2026 describes using Advanced Scene Switcher for timed scene changes. Its current workflow and compatibility were not verified here, so check the plugin’s current instructions for your installed OBS version and test a complete transition before relying on it during a live broadcast.

Use one ordered playlist without timed changes
For a single playlist that simply runs through its items, add one VLC Video source and configure its playlist behavior. The OBS Project documents playlist items, loop and shuffle controls, and visibility behavior. Choose shuffle only when randomized order is intended; for a fixed sequence, leave it off. VLC must be installed, with its architecture matching OBS when using 64-bit OBS. See the OBS Project Media Sources guide.
Choose the right workflow

Before you go live
- Confirm the correct YouTube channel is active in Studio.
- Check the event date, time, and selected broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Confirm OBS has the intended scene and playlist, and that the media plays as expected.
- Check that the stream key or account integration targets the matching event.
- Verify that you have the rights to use every video and audio item in the playlist. Scheduling a stream does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted material.
Troubleshooting
The wrong playlist appears on the scheduled broadcast
Check the active OBS scene and its sources. Then verify that the stream URL and key, or selected broadcast in account integration, belong to the intended channel and event. YouTube’s event schedule does not select the OBS playlist for you.

The VLC playlist source is unavailable or does not play
Confirm VLC Media Player is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. Reopen OBS after installation if the source is still unavailable, then check that the playlist items point to accessible media files.
The playlist plays in the wrong order
Open the VLC Video source settings and turn shuffle off for a fixed sequence. Check the listed media items to confirm their order.

A playlist does not change at the planned clock time
A VLC playlist’s loop and visibility controls do not, by themselves, establish a wall-clock schedule. Switch scenes manually or configure a scene-automation plugin whose current instructions and OBS compatibility you have checked; rehearse the transition before using it on air.
