Use a TradingView drawing alert on the trendline when the tool supports it, or place a price alert at the line’s current level with Crossing. Select Crossing up for an upside break and Crossing down for a downside break. A retest requires a second alert at the former breakout area; the first alert only tells you that price crossed a level, not that a trade is confirmed.
What a Bitcoin trend-line alert can—and cannot—tell you
A trendline alert is a notification tied to a level on a BTC/USD or BTC/USDT chart. When market data reaches the condition you selected, the platform sends an alert through the channels you enabled. It does not judge whether the line is well drawn, whether the break is meaningful, or whether a retest has held.
There are two distinct events to monitor:
- Break: price moves through the rising support line or falling resistance line.
- Retest: after the break, price returns to the former line or breakout area.
Because those events occur at different times, they normally need separate conditions. A single crossing alert cannot know that a previous break happened and then wait for a return.
The alert should use the same exchange or composite feed you rely on for execution. BTC prices can differ slightly between venues, and a line drawn on one feed may be touched earlier or later on another. Treat every alert as a prompt to inspect the chart and apply your own confirmation rules.

Prepare the chart before creating an alert
Choose the market and data feed
Open a BTC/USD or BTC/USDT chart. Record the exchange or data source shown on the chart, especially if you execute on a particular exchange. Keep the symbol, chart type and time zone consistent when you review the alert later.
Draw a line that represents a defined structure
Use the platform’s trend-line tool and anchor it to the swing points that define the structure. A rising support line should connect meaningful higher lows; a falling resistance line should connect meaningful lower highs. Do not anchor a line to one isolated wick and call it a trend. For a channel, draw the second boundary through the opposing swing points and check that both lines describe the same price movement.
The line’s current price is the level used by a simple price alert. Since a trendline changes value as it slopes across the chart, a price alert is an approximation of the line at the moment you create it. If the platform offers a drawing alert, it can follow the drawing instead.

Decide what counts as a break
Before opening the alert dialog, decide whether any intrabar touch is enough or whether your rule requires a candle close beyond the line. This choice determines the trigger frequency. A wick through a line can trigger an alert even when the candle closes back inside the trend; a bar-close condition reduces that type of notification but may arrive later.
TradingView: create a trend-line break alert
Method 1: attach an alert to the drawing
- Open the BTC/USD or BTC/USDT chart and draw the trendline or channel using the swing points that define it.
- Right-click the line or channel and choose Add alert. TradingView supports alerts on lines and channels, as well as technical alerts on drawing tools.
- In the alert dialog, review the condition, symbol and interval. Make sure the drawing selected in the dialog is the one you intend to monitor.
- Select the trigger frequency that matches your rule: Once, Every time, Once per bar close or Once per minute.
- Set an expiration date, choose the web, desktop or mobile notification channels you need, and write a message that identifies the setup.
- Save the alert and confirm it appears in the chart’s active-alert list.
A drawing alert is the closest match to a sloping trendline because the condition remains attached to the line as it extends. The exact choices shown can depend on the drawing type and your TradingView account or interface version.

Method 2: use a price alert at the line’s current level
TradingView documents a simpler alternative: instead of consuming a technical-alert slot on a trendline drawing, place a normal price alert at the trendline’s current price and choose Crossing. This is useful when you only need a one-time notification at the level or when the drawing does not expose an alert command.
- Move the crosshair to the point where you want the alert to apply and read the trendline’s current price.
- Create a regular price alert and enter that level.
- Set the condition to Crossing if either direction matters.
- Configure the interval, frequency, expiration, delivery channels and message, then save.
Because the line continues to slope, revisit this alert if the setup remains active for a long time. A fixed price does not move with the drawing.
Choose the direction operator

Crossing operators describe direction, not strength. They do not require a particular percentage move, volume level or number of candles unless you add those checks yourself.
Set frequency and confirmation behavior
Once is suitable for a single notification during a defined setup. Every time can notify you repeatedly whenever the condition is met. Once per bar close is the practical choice when your method requires a candle to finish beyond the line. Once per minute can reduce repeated intrabar messages while still responding during an open candle. Select the option that matches your written trading rule rather than choosing the fastest notification by default.
Set an expiration so an old line does not continue to generate messages after the pattern is invalid. Give the alert a descriptive message such as BTC 4h descending resistance — upside break; inspect close and retest. Include the symbol, timeframe, line name and required confirmation in the message; this prevents confusion when several BTC alerts arrive together.

Set a second alert for the retest
Identify the former breakout area
After a break alert fires, mark the price area around the former trendline or channel boundary. A retest is a return to that area from the opposite side: former resistance may act as support after an upside break, while former support may act as resistance after a downside break.
Create the retest condition
- Leave the original break alert available for your records, or disable it if its one-time job is complete.
- Add a second alert near the former breakout level. In TradingView, use a new drawing alert if the level is represented by a drawing, or a regular price alert at the relevant fixed price.
- Choose Crossing when you want notification on a return from either side. Choose a directional operator when your retest definition specifies the approach direction.
- Use Once per bar close if your plan requires the retest candle to close back at or through the level before you evaluate it.
- Write a message that says
BTC retest of broken 4h resistance — evaluate hold/failure, then set an expiration appropriate to the setup.
The alert only identifies contact with the area. Inspect whether price rejects the level, closes through it, or remains indecisive according to your own rules. Neither TradingView nor an exchange alert validates a successful retest.
Handle a moving trendline carefully
If the original line is steep, its price changes materially from one candle to the next. A fixed retest alert can become stale. Re-read the line’s value as the retest develops and adjust or replace the fixed alert. A drawing-based condition is preferable when available because it remains associated with the sloping geometry.
Binance: exchange-level Bitcoin price alerts
Binance’s documented desktop workflow is designed for price conditions rather than attaching an alert to a drawn trendline. Use it when the exchange price itself is the level you need to monitor.
- Open the Binance desktop application and select the Alerts control.
- Choose the market and trading pair, such as BTC/USDT.
- Select the price condition and enter the level that represents the trendline or breakout area at that moment.
- Choose the alert time and sound.
- Save the alert and verify it in the alert list.
The cited Binance help page states a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts total, and 90-day validity for each alert. That page is dated 2022; interface labels, limits and validity rules can change, so check the current controls before relying on those figures. Binance’s fixed-price approach means you must update the level yourself if a sloping trendline moves.

Coinbase: simple mobile price notifications
Coinbase documents an automatic price-alert workflow in its mobile app. It is appropriate for a straightforward level notification, not for a geometric trendline that needs to move with the line.
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and select the asset you want to monitor.
- Enable the automatic price alert from the asset’s alert control.
- Review the notification setting and leave it enabled for the device.
- To remove it, return to the asset’s alert control and delete the alert.
The documented Coinbase flow does not establish drawing alerts, directional trendline operators or bar-close confirmation. For those requirements, create the geometry and condition in a charting platform, then use Coinbase only for the simple mobile notification it provides.

When choosing among them, compare five things: whether the alert follows a drawing or stays fixed, whether direction and bar-close behavior are available, how notifications reach you, what limits and expirations apply, and whether the alert uses the same market feed as your execution venue.

The alert fires on a wick but the candle closes inside
This happens when an intrabar crossing condition is used. Replace it with Once per bar close where that option is available, or treat the notification as an early warning and wait for your close-confirmation rule before acting.
The line moved but the alert did not
A fixed price alert remains at the number entered when it was created. Recalculate the line’s current price and edit the alert, or use a drawing alert that follows the trendline.

The alert triggers on the wrong side
Check the operator. Use Crossing up for a move from below to above and Crossing down for a move from above to below. Use Crossing only when either direction is intentional.
The retest notification arrives immediately after the break
A level alert cannot infer that a completed break should precede the retest. Create the retest alert only after the break, or disable it until the original break condition has occurred. Place it at the former breakout area rather than at an unrelated current price.
Notifications are missing or duplicated
Confirm that the alert is enabled, its expiration has not passed, and the selected web, desktop or mobile channel is signed in and permitted to notify. If you selected Every time, repeated messages may be expected; change the frequency when one notification is enough.

Compare the symbol, exchange and quote currency on both screens. A BTC/USD alert will not necessarily match a BTC/USDT execution price, and different venues can print different highs and lows. Recreate the line on the feed you actually use when the difference is material.
A practical BTC alert checklist
- Chart the exact BTC pair and feed used for the decision.
- Anchor the trendline or channel to multiple meaningful swing points.
- Write down whether a wick, intrabar touch or candle close constitutes a break.
- Use a drawing alert when the platform supports it; otherwise use the line’s current price with Crossing.
- Select Crossing up or Crossing down when direction matters.
- Set frequency, expiration and notification channels deliberately.
- Name the symbol, timeframe, line and required confirmation in the message.
- Create a separate alert for the former breakout area after a break occurs.
- Review a fixed-price alert when a sloping line advances or declines.
- Inspect the chart after every notification; an alert is not a trade signal or a success-rate guarantee.
What is known about alert performance
Official platform instructions explain how to create and deliver alerts, not how often trendline breaks succeed. No independent performance statistic or success rate is established for trend-line alerts in the cited documentation. Evaluate the setup with your own market, timeframe and risk rules rather than treating notification frequency as evidence of profitability.
