You can set a daily Shorts feed limit in the YouTube mobile app: go to You > Settings > Time management > Shorts feed limit, then choose a limit, including zero. For a regular account, reaching it triggers a reminder you can dismiss or ignore; it is not a hard block. Parents can set a limit for a supervised child or teen through Family Center, where the restriction works differently.
Set a Shorts limit on your own account
- Sign in to the YouTube app.
- Tap You in the bottom navigation.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Time management.
- Tap Shorts feed limit.
- Choose one of the limits shown, including zero.
YouTube does not enumerate the available durations on its help page, so choose from the options shown in your app. Its instructions say that when the selected time is reached in the Shorts feed, a message appears reminding you. You can dismiss or ignore the reminder, so this setting helps you notice your scrolling time but does not prevent you from continuing. YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit
Set a limit for a supervised child or teen
- In the YouTube app, tap You, then Settings.
- Tap Family Center and select the child’s account.
- Tap Time management, then set the daily Shorts feed limit.
The parent manages this setting from the linked account. YouTube also documents Family Link as a way to manage supervised YouTube settings, but its instructions for the Shorts feed limit use Family Center. For supervised teens, YouTube says reaching the limit prevents further Shorts-feed scrolling for the rest of the day, and the limit resets every morning. YouTube’s help page says parents can set the daily limit to zero starting in March 2026. YouTube Help: Parental controls and settings for supervised accounts
Controls can vary with supervision status and app interface. If the labels differ, confirm that you are viewing the correct account and check the current YouTube app settings.

How the Shorts limit differs from other YouTube reminders
