In changedetection.io, add the page as a watch, configure Discord as the notification destination, and enable screenshot notifications if the chosen notification route supports them. If the page depends on JavaScript, choose its browser-based fetcher instead of relying on a basic request.
What you need
- A website-change monitor, either hosted or self-hosted. changedetection.io documents both approaches and Discord notifications; current plan prices and feature availability depend on the service and are not established here. Project overview
- A Discord server channel where you can create a webhook.
- A browser-based fetcher if the target page needs JavaScript rendering or interaction before its content appears.
Set up website change alerts in Discord
- Create a Discord webhook. In Discord, open the intended server and channel settings, create a webhook, select its destination channel, and copy the generated webhook URL. Discord’s guide explains the setup: Intro to Webhooks.
- Add the page to your monitor. In changedetection.io, add the URL as a watch. Select the page content or region that matters where the monitor offers visual selection or change filtering; monitoring only relevant content can reduce noise. The project README describes change review at word, line, or character level.
- Choose a fetcher that can see the page. A request-based fetcher may work when the relevant content is present in the server response. If content appears only after JavaScript executes, use changedetection.io’s
html_webdriverbrowser-based fetcher, which its API documentation identifies as using Playwright or Puppeteer. Interactive pages may also need browser steps. In the monitor’s notification settings, provide the webhook destination in the format supported by that installation. changedetection.io’s API documentation gives a Discord-style example:
discord://webhook_id/webhook_token. Do not publish or share the real webhook URL; it is the credential that allows messages to be posted to its channel. - Choose whether to include a screenshot. Enable
notification_screenshotwhere available. The setting is optional, and the API documentation says screenshot inclusion depends on support by the notification URL. Verify delivery with a test change rather than assuming every Discord notification route attaches an image. API documentation - Trigger a test and inspect the result. Make or wait for a change you can recognize, then confirm that Discord receives the expected message and, if enabled and supported, its screenshot. Review the monitor’s change history or diff to distinguish a real page change from dynamic noise.
Choose between request and browser fetching
Request-based fetching
Use a regular request-based fetcher when the server response already contains the text or markup you want to monitor. It avoids needing a browser runtime, but it cannot reproduce content that only appears after client-side JavaScript or page interaction.
Browser-based fetching
Use a browser fetcher when the page must execute JavaScript, load content dynamically, or follow interactive steps. This adds browser infrastructure and can make captures vary with the browser/runtime version, operating system, viewport, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Make screenshot comparisons less noisy
- Monitor a specific page region or relevant content instead of unrelated navigation, timestamps, or rotating modules when your tool allows it.
- Use the same browser/runtime, viewport, and capture settings for repeated comparisons; otherwise, rendering differences may resemble a page change. Playwright’s visual comparison guidance
- For volatile elements that cannot be excluded through the monitor, Playwright documents hiding dynamic elements with a stylesheet. Apply such styling only when those elements are not part of what you intend to detect. Playwright: Visual comparisons
- Choose a concise notification if a visual attachment is unnecessary. A screenshot can make a change easier to scan, but the selected notification route must support attaching it.
Or skip the browser setup

Troubleshooting
Discord receives no alert
Check that the webhook URL is correct, belongs to the intended server and channel, and is configured in the monitor’s notification settings using the format that installation expects. Keep the URL private. Test with a new detectable change; the sources do not establish a universal delivery interval or instant-alert guarantee.
The notification arrives without a screenshot
Confirm that screenshot notifications are enabled and that the particular notification URL or route supports them. changedetection.io documents the optional notification_screenshot setting, not universal attachment support for every configuration. API documentation

The monitor misses content visible in a browser
The default request may not execute the JavaScript that renders the content. Switch to a browser-based fetcher such as html_webdriver where appropriate, and add browser steps if the page requires interaction. API documentation

The page varies even in a stable environment
Identify rotating or frequently changing elements and hide them with a stylesheet only if they are outside the monitoring goal. If the variation is meaningful, keep it in the comparison and tune the monitored region or change criteria instead.
