Larix Broadcaster for Android is documented for streaming live input, not for selecting a prerecorded video file as its source. To broadcast a local video from an Android device, the documented Larix workaround is to play it on-screen and use the separate Larix Screencaster app to stream the screen. Audio capture is conditional, so check the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room before going live.
Choose the right Larix app
| App | What it does | Fit for a prerecorded video | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Larix Broadcaster | Captures live input and publishes a stream, including over RTMP. | Its official Android feature documentation does not list local-file playback as an input. | Do not assume it has a built-in video player or playlist. This reflects the documented features, not a test of every version or configuration. Softvelum’s Android Broadcaster page |
| Larix Screencaster | Captures and streams Android screen content. | Use it as a workaround while the video plays on the device. | Whether the video’s audio is captured depends on Android and the playback app. Softvelum’s Screencaster information |
For Broadcaster, Softvelum lists Android 7.0 or later, H.264/AVC video, AAC audio, and RTMP publishing. These are app specifications, not a guarantee that every handset or app will behave identically. Check the current requirements.
Check YouTube access and prepare the stream
- Confirm that live streaming is enabled. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then create a stream or choose the scheduled stream. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until broadcast time. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
- Copy the current connection details. In Live Control Room, get the server URL and stream key for the selected stream. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset or rotate it in YouTube Studio.
- Prepare the video and playback app. Have the local video ready to play, set the intended screen orientation, and plan to keep playback running for the broadcast. The screen-capture workflow captures what appears on the device; it is not a Larix file playlist.
Set up Larix Screencaster and connect it to YouTube
- Install and open Larix Screencaster. Confirm the app is currently available for your device and Android version. It is separate from Larix Broadcaster.
- Configure the RTMP destination. Use the server URL and stream key from the selected YouTube stream. Larix’s setup reference gives
rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2as a YouTube example and describes combining the server/application URL with the stream name or key in Larix’s Connection URL field. The current values shown in your Live Control Room take precedence over that example. Larix connection setup reference - Start screen capture and allow the Android capture prompt. Follow the Screencaster prompts to begin capturing the screen. Exact controls can vary by app version.
- Start the video full-screen. Check that the picture has the intended orientation and that playback will not be interrupted by notifications, screen locking, or another app.
- Inspect YouTube’s incoming preview before broadcasting publicly. Wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, orientation, and playback stability; then select Go live for the scheduled stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
- End the broadcast cleanly. Stop sending from the encoder and use End Stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
Understand the audio limitation
Screen video and app audio are separate. Softvelum says Android 9 and earlier do not let apps capture audio from other apps. On Android 10 or later, media-audio capture is available only for apps that support external recording. A video may therefore appear in the stream with no sound. Protected content and particular players may behave differently; the documentation does not establish support for every player or file.
- Check the preview’s audio before selecting Go live.
- If the picture is present but audio is absent, confirm that Screencaster is set to capture media sounds if that option is available, and that the playback app permits external recording.
- If you cannot get usable audio, do not assume a different Larix connection URL will fix it; the limitation may be Android or the player app.
Check copyright and YouTube rules before streaming
Having a video file on your device does not establish that you have the rights to broadcast its picture or sound. Use content you created or have permission to stream, and check the applicable music, footage, and other rights before making the broadcast public. YouTube’s live-stream rules and account access can change; review YouTube’s current guidance and check the Live Control Room for restrictions or warnings before starting.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot choose a video file in Broadcaster. | Local-file playback is not listed as a Broadcaster Android input in its official feature documentation. | Use the separate Screencaster screen-capture workflow, or use a different solution that explicitly supports file playback. |
| YouTube does not receive a stream. | The server URL or stream key may be wrong, or live access may not yet be enabled. | Copy the current values from the selected stream in Live Control Room; check that live streaming is enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. |
| The video appears, but there is no audio. | Android or the playback app may not allow external audio capture. | Check the Android version, Screencaster’s media-audio setting if present, and whether the player supports external recording. Verify in YouTube’s preview. |
| The stream is sideways or framed incorrectly. | The device orientation or playback layout does not match the intended broadcast. | Set the orientation before starting capture and inspect the incoming preview before going live. |
| The stream stops when playback ends or the device interrupts the app. | Screen capture follows device playback; it does not provide a looping file playlist by itself. | Keep playback active and prevent interruptions during the broadcast. If you need continuous looping without keeping a device running, use a cloud service designed for that workflow. |
Or let it run in the cloud
