To reward a customer after they post a WooCommerce product review, create an AutomateWoo workflow with the New Review Posted trigger and a Send Email action. The documented trigger runs after the review is approved. Create a coupon template first, then add {{ customer.generate_coupon }} to the email so AutomateWoo can generate a personalized coupon from that template.
Set up a coupon reward for an approved review
- Create a coupon template. In WooCommerce, create a coupon and configure the discount and any minimum-spend, product-eligibility, usage, or expiry restrictions for the campaign. AutomateWoo uses this coupon as the template for personalized codes. See AutomateWoo’s personalized coupon instructions.
- Create a workflow. In AutomateWoo, add a workflow and choose New Review Posted as its trigger. WooCommerce’s documented example says the trigger waits until the review is approved. See the New Review Posted trigger documentation.
- Limit repeat rewards if needed. Add the This Workflow’s Run Count for Customer rule and set it below one if each customer should receive this reward only once. This is a per-customer frequency limit, not a limit on how many reviews a customer may submit.
- Add the email action. Choose Send Email and address it to
{{ customer.email }}. Thank the customer for sharing an opinion, and insert{{ customer.generate_coupon }}in the message where the personalized coupon should appear. The generated code inherits settings from the coupon template. - Preview and test before enabling. Use AutomateWoo’s preview and test options to check the email and generated coupon. Confirm the template’s discount, eligibility, usage restrictions, and expiry before activating the workflow.
Keep the reward independent of the rating
For a general review reward, do not suggest that the coupon is conditional on a positive review. If the intended policy is specifically to reward five-star reviews, WooCommerce documents a different workflow: use Order Completed as the trigger and set a Review Rating rule to five, then send the email with a personalized coupon. That rating-filtered setup is not the same as the general New Review Posted workflow. See the Order Completed trigger documentation.
Choose the workflow for your goal
| Goal | Documented path | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Reward a review already posted | AutomateWoo: New Review Posted trigger and email action | The documented trigger waits for approval; the email can include a personalized coupon. Source |
| Ask for a review after a purchase | AutomateWoo: scheduled email after Order Completed | Sends a review request with product links that lead to the review form. Allow time for shipping; this is a request, not a reward for an existing review. Source |
| Reward only five-star reviews | Order Completed trigger plus a Review Rating rule set to five | Filters the workflow by rating rather than rewarding reviews generally. Source |
| Reward reviews under a customer-count rule | AutomateWoo’s Customer Review Count rule, with a once-per-customer limit as appropriate | Supports a review-count-based workflow; plan the limit to avoid excessive coupon rewards. Source |
| Issue a coupon through a review-coupon feature | Coupons Pro product-review coupon settings | Its documented controls include approval, expiry, verified-purchaser eligibility, and a one-review-per-product-per-user limit. Check that its configured behavior matches the shop’s requirements. Source |
Check the coupon rules before sending
The email workflow determines when a reward is sent; the coupon template determines what the recipient can redeem. Set the restrictions that fit the promotion, such as eligible products, minimum spend, usage limits, and expiry. Test the resulting code as well as the email so the customer receives a usable offer under the terms you intended.
AutomateWoo’s product listing frames review growth as one possible use—“Can AutomateWoo help me get more product reviews?”—but a review request and a reward after a posted review remain separate workflows. See the AutomateWoo listing.
