Choose the flag that matches what is missing
Hidden paths and ignored paths are separate filters. A hidden file can still be ignored, and an ordinary visible directory can be excluded by an ignore rule. Choose the narrowest command that includes the paths you need:

What the options change
Include hidden paths with --hidden
Recursive searches normally skip hidden files and directories. --hidden (short form -.) includes them; hidden usually means a basename beginning with a dot, and the manual notes that operating systems with a hidden-file attribute may use that attribute too. Include ignored paths with --no-ignore
--no-ignore stops ripgrep from honoring ignore files such as .gitignore, .ignore, and .rgignore. It does not include hidden paths by itself, so pair it with --hidden if dotfiles or dot-directories may contain the match. [ripgrep guide; Debian trixie rg(1) manual]
Use -uu for both, and reserve -uuu for binary searches
The unrestricting flags add filters back in stages: -u disables ignore handling, -uu also searches hidden paths, and -uuu also searches binary files. Binary output may contain control characters, so avoid -uuu unless binary content is part of the task. [ripgrep guide]

Keep the search focused after relaxing filters
Turning off all ignore handling can bring generated or irrelevant directories into the search. If you need only a subset, use quoted glob patterns to limit paths. For example, search Rust files while excluding the target directory:
rg 'TODO' --glob '!target/**' --glob '*.rs' .A leading ! excludes matching paths. If multiple command-line glob patterns match a path, the later matching pattern takes precedence. Command-line -g/--glob patterns can override other ignore logic, making them useful for precise inclusion or exclusion. [Debian trixie rg(1) manual]

If you do not want to disable every ignore source, the manual also documents narrower controls: --no-ignore-vcs for version-control ignore rules and --no-ignore-dot for .ignore and .rgignore rules. [Debian trixie rg(1) manual]
Diagnose why a file is not being searched

If the file is binary, remember ripgrep skips binary content by default, identifying binary files by the presence of a NUL byte. Use
-uuuor--textonly when searching binary data is intended. -
If the cause is still unclear, add
--debugto inspect filtering decisions.
One edge case: explicitly naming a hidden file as an input can search it even though ripgrep skips hidden files during recursive traversal. [ripgrep guide; ripgrep FAQ]

Ripgrep’s automatic filtering can use .ignore, .gitignore, and .rgignore. When rules conflict, .ignore takes precedence over Git ignore rules, while .rgignore takes precedence over .ignore. Git-specific sources can also include $GIT_DIR/info/exclude and the file configured by core.excludesFile. [ripgrep guide]
