Use a Playwright locator that matches the rendered price on the specific storefront, wait for the product state you need, then capture either that locator or the surrounding page. BigCommerce does not have one price selector that works across every theme and custom storefront, so inspect the page before choosing a locator.
1. Set up Playwright and open the product page
Install Playwright for Node.js and its browser binaries in your project:

Playwright’s locator guide recommends locators based on user-facing semantics or explicit test contracts and explains their auto-waiting and retry behavior.

2. Find and scope the right price locator
Inspect the product page in the browser’s developer tools, or use Playwright’s locator inspection tools, to identify the element that contains the displayed price. First determine which price you mean: a sale price, a regular price, a selected variant’s price, or another displayed amount. Then confirm that the locator matches the intended visible element.
- Prefer an accessible or user-facing locator when the markup supports one, such as a role and accessible name or a text-based locator.
- Use a test ID when the storefront team provides an explicit, stable testing contract for the price.
- Scope to the product context when the page contains several products or prices. Identify the relevant product container first, then locate the price inside it.
- Use a CSS selector only when inspection shows it is appropriate. Avoid assuming that a theme-specific class or deeply nested DOM path is stable.
For example, if a product card is exposed as a list item and its accessible name identifies the product, scope the search to that card before locating its price. The exact role, accessible name, and price locator depend on the page’s actual markup. Playwright discusses this scoping pattern in its locator documentation.
BigCommerce storefronts can use different theme templates, JavaScript, and assets, and custom storefronts can differ further. The rendered page—not the platform name—determines the selector that will work. See BigCommerce’s theme directory structure documentation.

3. Wait for the price that matters
Choose a readiness condition that reflects how this product page works. domcontentloaded means the initial document has been parsed; it does not guarantee that client-rendered product data, a selected option, or a price update is ready. Likewise, a generic navigation event may not mean the storefront has finished the work relevant to your capture.

If selecting a variant changes the price, perform that selection first and wait for the updated price state before taking the screenshot. If the price is rendered only after another interaction or data request, wait for an observable condition tied to that behavior rather than adding an arbitrary delay as a substitute.
Use the intended locale and storefront state when prices are localized. BigCommerce’s Catalyst documentation describes locale selection and localized product data; confirm the behavior of the particular storefront you are capturing in its multi-language overview.

4. Capture the price or the surrounding context
Price-only evidence
When the price itself is the evidence, use locator.screenshot(). In the runnable example above, that captures the resolved price element to product-price.png. This produces a focused artifact, but only if the locator identifies the correct visible price.
Price with product context
When a reviewer needs to see which product the price belongs to, capture the page viewport instead:

For visual regression or repeated evidence capture, keep the browser and host conditions consistent. Playwright notes that screenshots can vary with the operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Fix the viewport and device scale factor as in the example, and also keep the browser version and execution environment stable where practical. See Playwright’s visual comparison guidance.
Choose a consistent output path and image type for your workflow. PNG is used in the example; Playwright’s screenshot APIs also document type and scale options. A screenshot of only the price is easier to compare as a focused element, while a page capture preserves context that may be needed to interpret the value.

6. Troubleshoot common failures
- The locator times out or is not visible: Inspect the rendered page and confirm the locator matches the current product and locale. If a variant must be selected, select it before waiting for the price.
- The screenshot contains the wrong price: Scope the locator to the intended product or price region and verify whether the page displays multiple amounts, such as regular and sale prices.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: Do not assume navigation completion means the product state is ready. Wait for the specific price element or other observable condition that signals the needed content has rendered.
- The selector breaks after a theme change: Reinspect the rendered markup and revise the locator. Prefer semantics or a maintained test contract over a brittle structural CSS or XPath path.
- Images differ despite no intended product change: Check whether the browser, host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, or headless mode changed. Keep the capture environment consistent for comparisons.
- The displayed price uses an unexpected locale: Set or select the intended storefront locale before capture and verify the localized product state.
