Use Playwright’s page.screenshot() for the visible viewport or the full scrollable page, and locator.screenshot() for a specific product-page element. Magento storefronts can use different themes and markup, so inspect the actual page and replace the example selector rather than relying on a universal Magento selector.
Set up a Playwright screenshot
The example below uses JavaScript and Chromium. Install Playwright, replace the sample URL with a product URL you can access, and run the script. The selector is intentionally a placeholder: inspect the target storefront’s DOM and choose a locator that matches its product content.
const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const browser = await chromium.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 1000 } });
await page.goto('https://store.example/product-url');
// The initially visible viewport
await page.screenshot({ path: 'product-viewport.png' });
// The full scrollable page
await page.screenshot({ path: 'product-full.png', fullPage: true });
// Replace with a selector confirmed on this storefront
await page.locator('YOUR_PRODUCT_SELECTOR').screenshot({ path: 'product-detail.png' });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
For installation and current API details, see the Playwright screenshots guide and Page API. The example illustrates the documented API; it does not establish a Magento-specific selector or readiness recipe.
Choose what to capture
| Need | Playwright option | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| What is currently visible | page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png' }) |
The current page view. The fullPage option defaults to false. |
| Everything down the page | page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png', fullPage: true }) |
The full scrollable page, including content below the fold. |
| One identified product-page element | page.locator('YOUR_SELECTOR').screenshot({ path: 'product.png' }) |
The matching element. Playwright scrolls it into view before capture. |
| Image bytes for further processing | const image = await page.screenshot() |
A buffer instead of a file written through the path option. |
An element screenshot is useful for a product image, price/details block, or another discrete region, but it depends on a locator that actually matches the page. If the target is a scrollable element, its screenshot contains only the content currently scrolled into view; it does not automatically capture all of that element’s scrollable contents. See the Playwright Locator API.

Find a selector that fits the Magento storefront
There is no universal product-page CSS selector established for Magento. Store themes, customizations, and page structure vary, so inspect the live page in browser developer tools and identify a stable element that uniquely represents the content you want.
- Open the product URL in a browser and inspect the desired region, such as the main product image or details panel.
- Choose a selector grounded in that page’s actual markup. Prefer a distinctive stable attribute or structure over a generic selector that may match several elements.
- Use the selector with
page.locator(...)and confirm that it resolves to the intended element before relying on the screenshot in a script or test. - If the page has variants, lazy-loaded images, or content that changes after interaction, reproduce the relevant state before capturing. The correct wait condition depends on the storefront; the available Playwright documentation does not identify a Magento-wide readiness event.
Control output and screenshot consistency
Playwright’s screenshot APIs provide options for output format, quality where applicable, scale, clipping, masking, and animation handling. Check the Page API for the options supported by the Playwright version installed in your project.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
- Set the viewport intentionally. The viewport affects what appears in a viewport screenshot and can influence responsive layout. The example sets it explicitly so the capture conditions are visible in the script.
- Choose scale deliberately. Use the documented scale option when you need to control image dimensions or pixel density; verify the accepted values for your installed version.
- Use clipping for a defined rectangle. A clip region is useful when you need a specific page area rather than a locator-based element capture.
- Mask volatile regions when appropriate. Masks can cover dynamic areas that would otherwise make visual comparisons inconsistent.
- Handle animations for repeatable checks. The screenshot API documents animation behavior options. Select the behavior that suits the test rather than assuming every capture will land on the same animation frame.
- Choose a file or buffer. Set
pathto write an image; omit it when the image bytes should be passed to another process or stored through application code.
A screenshot records the rendered state reached by the page. The cited documentation does not establish that a particular navigation event or network condition proves all images on a Magento product page have finished loading.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The element locator does not match: The selector may not exist on this theme, may be too broad or narrow, or the page may not have reached the state where the element appears. Reinspect the actual DOM and choose a page-specific selector.
- The screenshot misses content below the fold: A default page screenshot captures the current view. Set
fullPage: truewhen the intended output is the full scrollable page. - The element is offscreen:
locator.screenshot()scrolls the matching element into view. Confirm that the locator identifies the intended element and that the page has loaded it. - An element image omits part of a scrollable panel: Locator screenshots show only the element’s currently scrolled content. Capture the page or handle the panel’s scrolling separately if the complete contents are required.
- The image differs between runs: The viewport, responsive layout, dynamic page content, animations, or image loading may differ. Fix the capture conditions where possible and consider masks or animation handling for visual checks.
- The output file is missing: Confirm the script reached the screenshot call and that the process can write to the chosen path. If downstream code needs the image directly, omit
pathand use the returned buffer.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. Its clean-shot options can accept consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses report page verdict and billing headers. It also has an MCP server with screenshot tools for AI agents.
Use your API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY; the URL below is the target product page. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request details.
