To capture a Google results page for an SEO audit, search the exact query and use a browser extension that explicitly supports full-page SERP screenshots. Record the query, capture time, device, location and other relevant search context with the image. Google Search Console’s URL Inspection screenshot serves a different purpose: it shows a website page rendered during a live test, not Google’s search results.
Choose the right kind of screenshot
A SERP screenshot preserves what appeared on a Google results page in a particular browser context. A page-rendering screenshot shows a website page itself. The distinction matters when you are documenting rankings, ads, AI summaries, or other search features rather than checking how Google renders a landing page.
Google’s URL Inspection tool can show a rendered page screenshot after a successful live test. Google says that screenshot is not available for the indexed-URL view or when the fetch is unsuccessful. Use it to inspect your page’s rendering, not to archive a SERP.
Capture a SERP consistently
- Define the search. Search the exact query you need to audit on Google. Keep the spelling and punctuation consistent across later comparisons.
- Set the context. Note the device format, country or location, language and whether you are signed in when those details matter to the audit. A screenshot records one browser context at one point in time; it is not a universal or permanent ranking record.
- Choose a full-page extension. Confirm the listing explicitly says it captures full-page search results, rather than only the visible viewport or the website page currently open.
- Capture and retain the original. Save the image without editing the results interface if it will serve as audit evidence. Add a note with the query and capture context.
- Name files consistently. For example, use
google__desktop__query__country__YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM.png. Replace spaces and special characters in the query with a consistent convention; keep the original image file. - Compare like with like. When repeating the audit, use the same query and context where possible, and label any differences. Search results can vary with conditions and time.

| Option | What its listing says | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| SERPshot | The listing describes full-page Google and Bing SERP screenshots, query queues, device presets, automatic parsing, CSV export, and query, device, engine, country and timestamp information in filenames. It also lists SERP features such as ads, organic results, AI summaries and panels. | These are listing claims. Check the current listing and verify that the features you need appear in your own test captures before relying on completeness. |
| SERP Screenshot HD | The listing describes full-page SERP screenshots and keyboard shortcuts for full-page and visible-section capture. | “High-fidelity” and quality descriptions are vendor claims, not an independent assessment. |
| SEOquake | The listing describes a SERP overlay, country and language selection, and CSV/PDF exports. | It is an SEO-analysis extension; the listing excerpt does not describe it as a dedicated full-page SERP screenshot tool. |
| GO SERP | The listing describes on-page SEO auditing, page-level data and a snapshot of the whole open page. Its disclosure says data remains in-browser and reports no collection. | This is a page-level snapshot, not a Google SERP capture on the description available. Treat privacy statements as developer/store disclosures, not an independent audit. |
Keep the audit evidence useful
- Keep the original capture and its query/context note together. Do not rely on a filename alone if the project needs details such as language or sign-in state.
- Check that the capture includes the full results page and the SERP features relevant to the query. A tool listing may enumerate features, but verify coverage on the searches you actually audit.
- Separate observations from conclusions. Record what appeared in the capture rather than treating one screenshot as proof of a permanent or universal ranking.
- For client reports or publication, consider the rights and presentation of third-party content visible in results.
Google Search screenshots in reports and publications
Google’s Brand Resource Center Search guidelines say: “You don’t need to ask permission to use screenshots of the Google Search page and search results pages in print for educational or instructional purposes.” That statement is specifically about print for educational or instructional purposes; do not assume it grants permission for every medium or use.
The same guidance asks users to keep the Search interface natural and unmodified, avoid implying Google endorses the work, consider permissions for third-party content shown, and place “Google and the Google logo are trademarks of Google LLC.” beneath an image featuring Google Search. Check the current guidance for the medium and intended use of your report.

If the goal is a clean screenshot of a website page rather than an archival image of Google’s SERP, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API captures a URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; it does not turn a screenshot of a website into a Google results-page capture.
One GET request can capture a page. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details:

ScreenshotNeo removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Does a Google SERP screenshot prove what every searcher saw?
No. It documents results in the browser context and at the time of capture; it should not be presented as a universal ranking record.
