To screenshot an infinite-scroll website, first use your browser automation agent to scroll the page until the content you want has loaded, then take a full-page screenshot. In Playwright, the capture option is fullPage: true; it captures the page’s current scrollable extent, not content the site has not loaded yet. Set a clear stopping rule, such as reaching a target item or seeing no new items after several scrolls.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss content
Loading an infinite feed and capturing a full-page image are separate steps. Playwright defines a full-page screenshot as capturing the full scrollable page, rather than only the visible viewport. That does not make the site fetch every item it could ever show. Its scrolling guide describes scrolling a footer into view to prompt an infinite list to load more content.
Therefore, the reliable sequence is scroll, wait for evidence that more content arrived, and capture only after the intended extent is present. An unbounded feed has no natural “all content” endpoint; decide how far the agent should go and make that limit explicit.
Use an AI agent with Playwright
1. Open the page and inspect how it scrolls
Navigate to the target page and allow its initial content to render. Identify whether the document itself scrolls or whether the feed is inside a nested scroll container. An accessibility or DOM snapshot can help the agent understand the page structure. 2. Scroll to trigger more items
Scroll in increments close to one viewport, then wait for a site-specific signal: for example, a loading indicator disappearing, the item count increasing, or a new item becoming visible. For a known target item, bring that element into view. Playwright documents scrolling through mouse-wheel input or by changing a scrollable element’s scrollTop: Playwright scrolling actions.
3. Stop at a deliberate boundary
Repeat until the desired item is present, a stable end condition is reached, or a maximum item count or time limit is met. If you use “no new items” as the end condition, allow several attempts before stopping; a delayed request or variable network response can make one unchanged scroll inconclusive. Prefer observable page signals over a fixed sleep, which may be too short on one site and unnecessarily long on another.
4. Capture and verify
Once the intended content is present, take the screenshot. Playwright’s Screenshots guide describes a full-page capture as a screenshot of the full scrollable page. Check that the image contains the expected first and last items and that lazy-loaded images have rendered.

Runnable Playwright JavaScript pattern
This example is a starting point for pages where scrolling the document triggers more content. Replace the wait condition with a signal that actually reflects the target site. The short delay is illustrative, not a universal loading guarantee.

Height alone is an imperfect signal: some sites append items without immediately changing measured height, and others update height for reasons unrelated to new feed items. Where possible, track a stable item selector or count instead. The example does not handle nested scroll containers, “Load more” buttons, or virtualized feeds automatically.
Choose a capture approach for the page

Segmented capture is a practical workaround for virtualized feeds, not a guarantee of a perfect stitched image. Overlaps help detect gaps, but sticky headers, changing content, and duplicated items can complicate assembly.
When to use browser snapshots as well as screenshots
A screenshot is useful for visual inspection: layout, image rendering, spacing, and what appeared on screen. When the task is to identify text, labels, or page structure, use an accessibility or DOM snapshot alongside the image. Common problems and fixes
The image stops near the top of the feed
Cause: The agent captured before scrolling triggered more requests, or it reached the bottom without waiting for content to arrive. Fix: Scroll first, wait for a new-item or loading-state signal, and only then capture.
Scrolling does not load anything
Cause: The page may use a nested scroll container or a “Load more” control instead of document scrolling. Fix: Inspect the page structure, target the actual feed container, or activate the visible control before continuing.
The loop stops too early or runs to its maximum
Cause: Document height is not necessarily the same as the number of loaded feed items, and an unbounded feed may never provide an end marker. Fix: Prefer a site-specific item count or target-item condition. Keep a maximum number of rounds or items as a safety boundary.

Older items are missing from the tall image
Cause: A virtualized feed may remove or recycle items that are no longer near the viewport. Fix: Capture overlapping viewport segments during scrolling and inspect them for gaps and duplicates instead of relying on one full-page image.
Images are blank or partly loaded
Cause: Lazy-loaded assets may not render until the relevant items are brought into view. Fix: Scroll through the intended range, wait for visible assets to load, and verify the first and last sections in the resulting image.

No. It captures the current scrollable page. Scroll the feed to load the extent you need before taking the screenshot.
How can I tell whether an infinite feed has reached its end?
