To screenshot an entire website, use your browser’s full-page command instead of a normal screenshot. Firefox offers Save full page, Microsoft Edge offers Capture full page, Chrome puts Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools Device Mode, and iPhone Safari offers Full Page after you take a screenshot. These commands capture content below the visible screen in one image.
For repeatable, automated captures, an API is more practical than a manually operated browser. After the browser instructions, this guide shows a one-request ScreenshotNeo workflow that can remove consent banners and other overlays before capture.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A regular screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the viewport. A full-page screenshot renders the document beyond that viewport and joins the result into one tall image (or, with some tools, a PDF). It is useful for design reviews, documentation, bug reports, archiving a landing page, and sharing a long article without sending multiple images.
The browser still has to render the page. Content that appears only after scrolling, an embedded frame with its own scrollbar, a modal overlay, or an animation may not behave exactly as it does in a static document. Always open the saved file and inspect it before you rely on it.

Built-in browser commands require no dedicated hardware or paid product. An extension can add convenience or export choices, but check its current permissions, privacy policy, and availability before installing it; third-party extension features change over time.

Firefox: use “Save full page”
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the initial content to finish loading.
- Invoke Firefox’s screenshot controls from the page (use the browser’s screenshot command or its page menu).
- Select Save full page, not the option for the visible area.
- Review the downloaded image at its native size. Rename or move it after confirming that the lower sections are present.
Firefox’s help documentation also describes screenshot data collection as respecting the browser’s Do Not Track setting. For a developer workflow, Firefox Developer Tools provides a :screenshot command; adding --fullpage saves the entire webpage, and the command can target a single element when you do not need the whole document.
Microsoft Edge: use “Capture full page”
- Open the target page in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Edge’s Screenshot feature from the browser menu.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Use the resulting editor if you need to mark up the capture, then save the image.
Edge’s Screenshot feature also has selected-area capture and annotation tools. Those are useful when a full document is too large, but they intentionally do not produce an entire-page image.
Chrome desktop: capture from DevTools
- Open the webpage in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Turn on Device Mode (the device-shaped toolbar button in DevTools).
- Open the DevTools More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
- Wait for Chrome to save the image, then inspect it at full resolution.
Do not select Capture screenshot when you need the whole document: Chrome documents that command as a viewport capture. Device-specific emulation can also add a device frame when that setting is enabled. Menu names and placement can vary with Chrome and DevTools updates, so use the labels shown in your installed version rather than relying on a universal keyboard shortcut.
iPhone Safari: choose “Full Page” after the screenshot
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press and quickly release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press Home and the side button together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail if it appears.
- Select Full Page at the top of the preview.
- Scroll through the long preview, crop or mark it up if needed, then use the offered save or share controls.
Apple’s iPhone instructions use an entire Safari webpage as the example for Full Page. These steps are for iPhone; do not treat them as instructions for Safari on macOS.

When a browser capture is incomplete
The official browser instructions define how to request a full-page image, not a guarantee that every site will render perfectly in one pass. Check the saved result for these situations:
- Lazy or scroll-triggered content: images or sections may load only after they enter view.
- Nested scrolling: a panel inside the page can have its own scrollbar and may not be included as you expect.
- Overlays: consent dialogs, newsletter forms, and chat buttons can cover content.
- Animation: a moving carousel, video, or changing ad can produce inconsistent frames.
- Very long documents: the image can be extremely tall and awkward to open or share.
First let the page settle, dismiss or accept overlays where appropriate, and try the browser command again. If content is still missing, record the browser and site behavior before switching to an extension or an automated renderer; there is no single browser setting that fixes every site.

Make the page deterministic
Use a fixed viewport, device preset, timezone, and geolocation when comparing captures over time. Wait for a known selector or network idle instead of guessing with a short delay. Hide animated or irrelevant selectors and block ads or trackers when they create noise. If the page needs authentication, pass the required cookies, headers, user agent, or Authorization value deliberately and protect those credentials.
Control output size
A full-page image can be too tall for messaging apps or issue trackers. Use image resizing for a smaller derivative, or choose PDF output with paper size, margins, orientation, and page ranges when readers need pages rather than one continuous bitmap. Retina scale increases detail and file size; use it when text must remain legible at high zoom.

Understand billing and retries
Inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed on every response. A failed load, blank page, timeout, bot check, CAPTCHA, or cache hit is identified and is not billed; a successful clean capture is the billable result. Set a client timeout long enough for the target site, retry transient network errors with backoff, and avoid retrying a deterministic bot check indefinitely.
Troubleshooting checklist
The image contains only the visible viewport
You used a viewport command. In Chrome, select Capture a full size screenshot; in Firefox select Save full page; in Edge select Capture full page. On iPhone, choose Full Page in the screenshot preview.

Lower sections or images are missing
Keep the page open until its content settles, then retry. Scroll through the page once if the site loads sections on demand. For automation, wait for a selector or network idle and enable full-page capture with lazy images loaded. If a nested panel owns the scrollbar, capture that element separately with a CSS selector.
A consent banner, chat button, or popup covers the result

The API response is not an image
Check the HTTP status and read X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed. A bot check, blank page, timeout, or failed load is a result state rather than a valid image. Verify the URL is reachable, increase the client timeout, and review authentication headers or cookies.
The capture is unexpectedly expensive
Check whether your request is bypassing the cache or using a short cache TTL that forces fresh renders. Cache hits are not billed; successful clean shots are. Use the usage API to reconcile requests and select the plan whose monthly allowance matches your actual volume.

Safari on a Mac has no Full Page button
The documented Apple flow here is for iPhone Safari. Do not assume the iPhone control exists in Safari on macOS; use a verified macOS workflow or an automated capture service instead.
