Open the Aadhaar page in your browser, then press Shift-Command-4 and drag over the part you want to capture. For the full display, press Shift-Command-3; for a browser window, press Shift-Command-4, then Space, and click the window. Check the saved image for personal information before sharing it.
Choose what to capture
macOS has built-in shortcuts for capturing the whole screen, a selected area, or a window. Use the option that frames the page as you want it to appear.
Capture the entire screen
- Open the Aadhaar or UIDAI page and arrange it on screen.
- Press and release Shift-Command-3.
- Find the screenshot at the default save location, usually the desktop.
Capture a selected area
- Press and release Shift-Command-4. The pointer becomes a crosshair.
- Drag around the page area you want, then release the mouse or trackpad button.
- Open the resulting image and confirm the edges include the intended content.
Capture the browser window
- Press Shift-Command-4, then press and release Space.
- Move the camera pointer over the browser window and click.
- To exclude the window shadow, hold Option while clicking.
Use Screenshot controls for save location and options
On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app controls. Choose a screen, window, or selected-area capture, then use Options to set a timer, choose a save location, control the floating thumbnail, or show the pointer. The controls also offer copying a capture to the clipboard instead of saving it as a file. Available labels and options may differ by macOS version or language. See Apple’s Take a screenshot on Mac guide.
Screenshot or save the full webpage?
A screenshot preserves the pixels visible on screen. It is useful as an image record, but it does not preserve the page as a browsable document. If you need to revisit page graphics and links later, Safari can save a Web Archive: choose File > Save As, then choose Web Archive in the format menu. Links work only while their destination pages remain available, and some pages may restrict saving items they display. Page Source saves HTML source, not a visual image. See Apple’s Safari Web Archive instructions.

Protect Aadhaar details before sharing
A screenshot can expose anything visible on the page, including Aadhaar numbers, names, addresses, or OTPs. Before sending or posting an image, inspect it at full size and avoid sharing personal details unnecessarily. If the image must be public, redact sensitive information in a copy and verify that it cannot be recovered from the original file.
UIDAI’s portal offers a free Download Masked Aadhaar option; access requires a mobile OTP. UIDAI defines a masked Aadhaar as showing only the last four digits, with the first eight replaced by “xxxx-xxxx” (UIDAI FAQ). A masked document is a different way to share Aadhaar information; it does not make unrelated personal details in a browser screenshot safe to disclose.

UIDAI guidance for user agencies and departments says not to publish personally identifiable data, including Aadhaar, in public websites, and says printed Aadhaar numbers should be truncated or masked to show only the last four digits (UIDAI compendium). That guidance is addressed to agencies and departments; it should not be read as a claim that every individual screenshot is prohibited. UIDAI’s website policy addresses reproduction and use of material from its official site and associated portals, including accurate reproduction and source acknowledgement when material is republished.

For an ordinary screenshot of a page you have open on your Mac, the built-in shortcuts above are enough. If you need to request a website capture through an API, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of a public URL; replace the URL with the page you are authorized to capture:
