For a full-page image, use Chrome DevTools: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+I, then Ctrl+Shift+P, search for Capture full size screenshot, and run the matching command. To capture only what is visible, use Windows+Shift+S to select an area. If a document rather than an image will do, Chrome can save a printable page as a PDF.

Choose the capture you need

Method What it captures Output Use it when
Chrome DevTools full-size command The entire webpage, according to Chrome Community guidance Image The page extends below the visible browser window
Windows+Shift+S A selected visible area Screen capture You need only part of the current screen
PrtScn or Windows+PrtScn The visible screen Screenshot; save behavior depends on shortcut and device You want a quick screen capture
Chrome Ctrl+P Printable page content PDF document You need a document to keep or share, not an image

Capture a full webpage as an image in Chrome

Chrome Community guidance describes a DevTools command for capturing the full page, including content below the viewport. The precise command label or availability may vary by Chrome version; this is community guidance, not a guarantee of an identical interface on every release.

  1. Open the webpage in Chrome.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open DevTools.
  3. Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open the DevTools command menu.
  4. Search for Capture full size screenshot.
  5. Select and run the matching command. Chrome should produce an image of the full page.

If the command is not listed, check that DevTools is open and that you are searching in its command menu. Chrome updates can change available commands or labels. For a quick partial capture, use Windows+Shift+S; it captures a visible region rather than scrolling the webpage.

Capture only the visible screen or a selected area

Select a region with Windows+Shift+S

Press Windows key+Shift+S to open Snipping Tool’s screen-selection interface, then drag over the visible area you want. This is useful for a chart, an error message, or a portion of the current browser window. It does not capture content farther down the page.

Use PrtScn shortcuts for a quick screen capture

PrtScn is described as a basic screenshot shortcut, while Windows key+PrtScn is described as a direct-save option. Keyboard layouts, Fn-key requirements, and save behavior vary by computer and Windows configuration. Some laptops do not have a dedicated PrtScn key, so check the key labels or device guidance if the shortcut does not work.

Save the page as a PDF instead

Use this option when a shareable document is acceptable and an image is not required. Google’s Chrome Help documents opening print options with Ctrl+P and choosing a destination and settings, including Save as PDF in the save workflow. A PDF is a printable representation of page content, not a screenshot; interactive features and exact website styling may not be preserved.

Keep Chrome manageable on a low-end PC

Try the built-in capture options before installing extensions. If Chrome is already sluggish, close unused tabs and turn off or remove extensions you do not need; Google recommends these steps as Chrome performance guidance. They are sensible housekeeping, not a measured guarantee that a screenshot will finish faster or use a particular amount of memory.

ScreenshotNeo can return a webpage screenshot or PDF from one API request. Before capture, it accepts cookie/consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.

Here is a cURL request for a webpage image, using the API’s documented example target URL. Replace the URL and your key as needed. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

Troubleshooting

  • The DevTools command does not appear: Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I, open its command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P, and search for “Capture full size screenshot.” The command name or availability can vary with Chrome versions.
  • Windows+Shift+S does not open a selection: Check the Windows key and keyboard layout. Some devices require Fn for certain keys; use the available Snipping Tool interface if the shortcut differs on your PC.
  • Windows+PrtScn did not create an obvious file: Save behavior depends on the device and Windows configuration. Try Windows+Shift+S for a selectable capture, or check your PC’s Windows screenshot settings and keyboard guidance.
  • The capture seems incomplete: Confirm whether you need the full webpage or only the visible screen. A regular screen capture does not include the rest of a long page; use the DevTools full-size command for that purpose.
  • Chrome struggles while capturing: Close unused tabs and disable unwanted extensions before trying again. The available guidance does not establish a specific memory requirement or guarantee a performance gain.
  • The PDF does not look exactly like the live site: Print preview creates a document from printable page content, not a pixel-for-pixel screenshot. Use an image capture when appearance as an image is the requirement.
