If a full-page screenshot repeats a sticky header, switch from a scrolling-and-stitching capture to a true full-page capture if your tool offers one. If the bar still causes trouble, temporarily make it static or hide it with capture-only CSS. Test the result: screenshot tools handle sticky elements differently, and a CSS change can affect page layout.
Why sticky headers appear more than once
A “full-page screenshot” describes the result, not necessarily how a tool produces it. Some tools capture the full scrollable document in one operation; others take several viewport-sized images while scrolling and stitch them together. A fixed or sticky header can remain visible in each viewport slice, so the stitched image may show the bar repeatedly. This is a technical explanation based on how viewport-fixed elements behave; capture implementations vary.
Playwright documents full-page capture as taking an image of the full scrollable page as if it fit on one very tall screen. For that reason, start by trying a native full-page mode rather than a scrolling screenshot feature, then inspect the output on the actual page. Playwright’s screenshot guide and Mozilla’s Web Console documentation describe full-page capture routes.
Choose the capture method that fits

Take a one-off screenshot in Firefox
- Capture the entire page: open Firefox Developer Tools, open Settings, enable the “Take a screenshot of the entire page” toolbox button, then use the screenshot control.
- Capture just one element: open the Inspector, right-click the relevant node, and choose “Screenshot Node.”
- Use the Web Console if preferred: Mozilla documents the
:screenshothelper with--fullpagefor full-page capture and--selectorto target an element.
Firefox’s available capture controls and console options are documented in Mozilla’s Web Console documentation. If a whole-page image repeats the bar, try the element route when the content you need is contained in a single node.

Automate the capture with Playwright
Use fullPage: true for the full scrollable document. A locator screenshot captures a selected element instead. For a repeated or unwanted header, Playwright’s screenshot API accepts a capture-time style string, so you can change the header’s positioning or hide it only for that screenshot.
Capture the full page and keep the header in normal flow
Replace header.site-header with the selector that matches the page’s actual header.

});Making the header static lets it participate in ordinary document flow, rather than sticking to the viewport during capture. This is a practical CSS approach, not a guaranteed fix for every site. Check whether the header overlaps content, shifts the layout, or contains children whose positioning depends on it.
Hide the header for the screenshot
If the bar should not appear at all, use a capture-time rule such as:

});Hiding the header can change the page’s layout and the vertical position of the content below it. If preserving the original spacing matters, test a visibility-based rule or a different targeted override on the page rather than assuming one CSS declaration will suit every site.

When you only need a page region, capture its locator instead of taking a full-page image:

For recurring visual snapshots
BrowserStack documents that Percy handles sticky elements so they appear once in its full-page snapshots. It also cautions that changing sticky elements’ DOM positioning can change the stacking context for their children. - The header still repeats: confirm that the tool is using its native full-page mode, not a scrolling capture that stitches viewport slices. Test a short page first.
- The header disappears but leaves a gap: hiding an element can change layout differently from making it static. Adjust the capture-only CSS for that page and inspect the content position.
- Content overlaps after changing positioning: the header may have been removed from normal flow or may rely on its original positioning. Try the other targeted approach—static positioning or hiding—and check the result.
- Menus or overlays appear in the wrong layer: a positioning or stacking-context change can affect descendants. Percy specifically notes this risk for children of sticky elements; review the header’s descendants and overlays.
- The page is too long or only one section matters: use an element-level capture instead of a full-page screenshot.
