Set the appearance you want first, then press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open Snipping Tool and capture the part of the page visible on your screen. In Microsoft Edge, choose its Dark appearance for a dark browser interface, or use Web Remix’s Appearance > Turn on Dark mode option to restyle a supported webpage locally. These are separate settings: darkening Edge does not necessarily darken the website.
Choose what you want to appear dark
“Dark mode” can mean the browser frame or the webpage content. Decide which one you need before capturing; Snipping Tool records the current display and does not apply a dark theme itself.

Set dark appearance in Microsoft Edge
Darken the browser interface
- In Edge, select Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance.
- Under Overall appearance, select Dark.
This changes Edge’s interface appearance. For the website itself, use the separate Web Remix option if it is available for that page. Microsoft documents Edge’s dark theme in its Edge dark theme instructions.
Darken supported webpage content
- Open the page in Edge.
- Select the Remix icon in the address bar.
- Choose Appearance > Turn on Dark mode.
Web Remix changes your view during the browser session; it does not change the publisher’s original webpage. Microsoft says the Appearance Remix runs locally and does not send page data to Microsoft for that operation. The option may not be available for every page or Edge interface. Capture the visible page in Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Set the Edge or webpage appearance you want, then scroll and position the page so the desired material is visible.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S.
- Choose a capture mode: rectangular, freeform, window, or full screen.
- For a selection mode, select the screen area to capture. The capture is copied to Snipping Tool, where you can annotate, save, or share it.
- To save an image, open the Snipping Tool notification or app and use its save control to choose a location and file name.
Microsoft documents this shortcut and the four capture modes for Windows 10 and Windows 11 in Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots. You can also press PrtSc to put a static full-screen image on the clipboard.
Know what the capture includes
Snipping Tool captures a visible region, window, or screen; the documented Windows shortcut is not a method for producing one tall image of an entire scrollable webpage. To capture lower content, take additional screenshots after scrolling, or use a separate webpage-capture method that supports full-page output.

Edge’s Ctrl+P > More settings > Background graphics option concerns print output, not screenshot behavior. Use it when printing a page and wanting its background graphics included; do not treat it as a screenshot setting. See Microsoft’s Edge printing instructions.
If dark mode or the shortcut is unavailable
- The site remains light after choosing Edge Dark: That setting themes Edge’s interface, not necessarily the webpage. Try Web Remix’s Appearance control if it is available for the page.
- You cannot find Remix or its Appearance control: Microsoft says Edge visual changes roll out gradually, so menus can differ by version. Check the current Edge version and the Appearance options actually available; the control may not be offered for that page.
- An app still looks light: Windows color mode and individual app settings can be separate, and not all apps support dark mode. Microsoft explains this in Personalize your Colors in Windows.
- The screenshot misses content farther down: Scroll the page and capture another visible area. The Snipping Tool modes documented by Microsoft do not promise a full-page webpage capture.
- Edge’s controls look different: Interface changes may roll out gradually; consult Microsoft’s Visual changes to Microsoft Edge guidance and use the controls present in your version.
