To screenshot part of a webpage on Windows, press Windows + Shift + S, choose Rectangular snip, and drag over the visible section. Select the Snipping Tool notification to crop, annotate, copy, or save the image. For a browser-only capture, Microsoft Edge offers Ctrl + Shift + S → Capture area.
Choose the right Windows method

Method 1: Use Windows Snipping Tool
Take a rectangular screenshot
- Open the webpage and scroll until the section you need is visible. Resize or move windows so the complete target is on screen.
- Press Windows key + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool capture bar appears.
- Select Rectangular mode if it is not already selected.
- Click and drag from one corner of the webpage section to the opposite corner. Release the mouse when the selection covers exactly what you need.
- Select the Snipping Tool notification that appears. The capture opens for review and editing.
- Use crop, pen, highlighter, shapes, or text tools if required. Choose Copy to place the image on the clipboard, or save it from the Snipping Tool window.
The shortcut captures pixels currently displayed on your screen. It does not automatically include text or images farther down the page.
Capture an irregular shape with Freeform
- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- Choose Freeform from the capture-mode options.
- Draw around the content you want. Close the outline to complete the snip.
- Open the notification to annotate, copy, or save the result.
Freeform is useful when a rectangular screenshot would include unrelated page content, but the resulting image still contains only the visible screen area.
What else Snipping Tool can capture
The tool also provides window and full-screen capture modes. Window mode selects a complete application window; full-screen mode captures every display currently included by Windows. For a normal subsection of a webpage, rectangular mode is usually the most precise.

Method 2: Capture a webpage section in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S. You can also open the page’s right-click menu or the Edge Settings and more menu and choose Screenshot.
- Choose Capture area.
- Drag around the webpage portion you want.
- Choose Copy to put the image on the clipboard, or choose the markup option to review and annotate it before saving.
Edge also provides Capture full page. Use that option when the target extends below the current viewport; Edge will produce a long-page capture rather than requiring several separate snips.
If Screenshot is missing in Edge
Edge’s feature was renamed from Web Capture to Screenshot. On a work-managed computer, an administrator can disable it with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. If the command is absent, use Windows + Shift + S, or ask your administrator whether the policy is intentional.
How to get a clean, readable section
Prepare the page first
- Dismiss dialogs that cover the content, or capture them deliberately if they are part of the subject.
- Set the browser zoom and Windows display scaling so text is legible without cutting off the section.
- Scroll to the exact position and wait for images, charts, and fonts to finish loading.
- Close unrelated tabs, notifications, and overlays before selecting the area.
Choose dimensions for the destination
For a message or document, leave a small margin around the target so labels are not clipped. For a presentation, capture at the largest practical on-screen size and crop later. If you need several sections, use the same zoom and window width for each capture so they align consistently.
Annotate without obscuring evidence
Use a highlighter or arrow to identify a control, and crop away unrelated browser chrome. Keep the original capture as a separate file before drawing over it when the screenshot may be used for troubleshooting, documentation, or compliance.

Visible section versus full-page capture
A Snipping Tool or Edge area capture is a screen-region image: it records what is visible at one moment. It is the right choice for a paragraph, chart, menu, or error message. A full-page capture is different: it includes content below the fold and may be taller than a normal image. Use Edge’s Capture full page when the reader needs the complete document, not merely the section currently on screen.
Neither built-in workflow guarantees that interactive content, lazy-loaded images, cookie banners, or chat widgets will be removed. If those elements interfere, close them manually or use an automated capture service.

Troubleshooting
The shortcut does nothing
Click the webpage first and try Windows + Shift + S again. If another utility has claimed the shortcut, open Snipping Tool from the Start menu and use New. On managed devices, security software or policy may restrict capture.
The screenshot is black or blank
Check that the page finished loading and that the selected region is inside the browser window. Protected video, remote-desktop surfaces, and GPU-rendered content may not expose pixels to ordinary screen capture; try Edge Screenshot or capture a static portion of the page instead.

Content is cut off
Scroll the target fully into view before selecting it. Reduce browser zoom slightly, maximize the window, or use Edge’s full-page option if the section is taller than the viewport.
Edge Screenshot is unavailable
Use the right-click menu and Settings menu to confirm the command is not merely hidden. If it is disabled on a work browser, the WebCaptureEnabled policy may be responsible; Snipping Tool remains the built-in alternative.

The saved image is hard to read
Retake it at a larger window size, avoid excessive zoom-out, and crop only after saving the original. For automated captures, specify a larger viewport or retina scale in ScreenshotNeo.
