Scroll the feed until the content you want has loaded, wait for a page-specific signal, and only then take a screenshot. fullPage: true captures the page’s current scrollable extent; it does not, by itself, make an infinite list load every item.
Load the feed before capturing it
An infinite-scroll page requests or renders more items as you approach its bottom. A full-page screenshot captures what the page currently contains, so the reliable sequence is: trigger loading, confirm the next batch or the desired endpoint, and repeat until your stopping condition is met.
The example below assumes an open Playwright page, a list whose rows match .list-item, and a visible end marker reading “End of results.” Replace those selectors and conditions with signals from the site you are capturing. The loop has a maximum number of scrolls so an open-ended feed cannot run forever.

The count-stability check can stop too soon if a request is still pending, or keep running if the page changes for reasons other than new rows. Prefer an explicit end marker, an expected item count, disappearance of a loading indicator, or a relevant response when the page provides one. A fixed delay is only a fallback and may be flaky on slow or variable connections.

Scroll the actual feed, not necessarily the window
If the feed is inside a panel with its own scrollbar, scrolling the browser window may do nothing. Target the element that owns the feed:

});You can also bring a currently visible bottom item into view to trigger a page that loads more as the list approaches its end:

Capture the loaded page
After the loop reaches your defined endpoint, request a full-page screenshot:

Choose a stopping rule that matches the task
An infinite feed has no natural final point unless the site exposes one or you define the scope. Decide whether you need all available results, a known number of items, or a bounded portion of the feed.

- Known end marker: stop when the page exposes a reliable “end of results” state.
- Known target count: stop when the rendered item count reaches the count you need.
- Loading state or response: wait for the indicator to disappear or the relevant request to complete, then check whether new items arrived.
- Bounded capture: set a maximum number of iterations or elapsed time and report that the image covers only the captured portion if the limit is reached.
Do not treat networkidle as proof that an infinite feed is complete. A page that polls or keeps connections open may never become idle; a brief quiet period does not establish that there are no more items. Use a page-specific completion signal instead.
Account for lazy images and virtualized rows
Lazy-loaded images
Scroll through the regions containing images before capture so the site has an opportunity to load them. If complete images matter, wait for a meaningful image-ready condition rather than assuming that loading the list also loaded every image. A full-page capture does not guarantee that every site’s lazy-image behavior has been triggered.
Virtualized lists
Some applications render only the rows near the viewport and recycle or remove them as you scroll. In that case, one tall full-page image may not contain the complete list. Capture successive viewport-sized segments as you advance, or use the application’s underlying data when your task permits it. There is no universal Playwright recipe that makes all virtualized lists appear as one complete image.

Very tall output
A single exceptionally tall image can run into practical limits involving memory, image dimensions, or the software that must open the result. Capture sections or viewport-sized chunks when one image is unwieldy. Playwright also supports screenshots of elements; see the Page API reference.
Repeatable visual captures
For visual regression work, control changing content such as animations where appropriate; the Page API documents animation and masking options. Playwright’s screenshot assertion API in the test runner waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparison. That can help with repeatability, but it does not replace scrolling the feed or defining which items belong in the capture.
Troubleshoot missing or incomplete content
- The screenshot shows only the first batch:
fullPagecaptured the current page extent, but the feed was not advanced far enough. Scroll repeatedly and verify that the item count or another loading signal changes. - Scrolling the window has no effect: the list may be in a nested panel. Scroll the panel’s element, or bring an item near the panel’s bottom into view.
- The loop stops before the next batch appears: the stability check may be running before the request finishes. Replace the fixed delay with a wait for a new item, loading indicator, or relevant response.
- The loop never stops: the feed may have no end marker, the selector may count changing elements, or the page may poll continuously. Set a target count, maximum iterations, or time budget and make the intended scope explicit.
- Some images are blank: scrolling the list may not have triggered each image’s lazy-loading condition. Advance through image regions and wait for the relevant images to load before capture.
- Rows disappear from the final image: the list may be virtualized. Capture segments while advancing or retrieve the data through an allowed application interface.
- The output is too large to handle: split the capture into sections or viewport-sized images instead of requesting one very tall image.
