To screenshot a long webpage, use the full-page capture built into iPhone’s screenshot review or Firefox’s screenshot feature. In Chrome, a full-page extension such as GoFullPage is an option. The right method depends on your device, browser, and whether you need an image or a document; an ordinary screenshot captures only what is visible in the viewport.

What a full-page screenshot captures

A regular screenshot records the part of a page currently visible on your screen. A full-page screenshot extends beyond that viewport to capture content farther down the page. It is useful for sharing or saving a long article, product page, receipt, or other webpage as one image rather than a series of separate screen captures.

Full-page capture is not the same as saving a webpage as a PDF. An image is convenient to view or share as a visual record; a PDF may be more practical when your goal is to read or print a document. The steps and output depend on the device and browser, so use a workflow documented for the platform you are on rather than assuming the same controls exist everywhere.

On iPhone: use the Full Page screenshot option

Apple documents a Full Page option in the iPhone screenshot review flow, including for an entire webpage in Safari. The basic sequence is to take a screenshot, open its thumbnail, and select Full Page. You can navigate the preview and crop it before saving or sharing.

Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
  1. Open the webpage in Safari and scroll to the part of the page you want to capture. The full-page option is intended to reach beyond the screen, but getting the page into its desired state first can help ensure the capture reflects what you want.
  2. Take a screenshot using the button combination for your iPhone model.
  3. Tap the screenshot thumbnail when it appears.
  4. Select Full Page in the screenshot preview.
  5. Review the long-page preview. Navigate through it and crop the capture if needed.
  6. Use the available controls to save or share the result.

Apple’s instructions are specifically for iPhone. Do not assume that the same Full Page control or sequence is available on Android phones or in every iPhone app; the documented example is a webpage in Safari.

In Firefox: capture the whole webpage

Firefox’s screenshot feature supports capturing either the visible part of a webpage or the full webpage, and it can copy or save the resulting image. For a general user, use Firefox’s screenshot control and choose the full-page capture option presented there. The exact way to open the control can vary with the browser interface, so consult Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox support guidance for the current route in your version.

Choose the visible-area option if you need only what is on screen. Choose full-page capture when you need content below the viewport. Afterward, save the image or copy it, then inspect it before sending it along.

Developer-tools alternative

If you are comfortable using browser developer tools, Firefox also documents a screenshot command in its Web Console, with an option to capture the current page in full. Mozilla’s Firefox Source Docs page Taking screenshots describes that route. It is an alternative for technical users, not a requirement for an ordinary capture. Follow the documentation for the command’s current syntax rather than relying on a remembered command or shortcut.

In Chrome: use a full-page extension if you need one

The Chrome Web Store lists GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture as an extension for full-page screenshots. Its listing describes splitting images for pages that are too long for a single image. This makes an extension an available route when you need a full-page image in Chrome, but it is separate software rather than a built-in workflow established here.

  1. Find the extension in the Chrome Web Store and review its current permissions and privacy disclosures before installing it.
  2. Use the extension’s controls to capture the page, following the current listing or extension instructions.
  3. Inspect the output. If the page is especially long, check any split images and confirm that the sections you need are present and in order.

The store listing establishes the extension’s stated function, not an independent privacy or security audit. Consider what page you are capturing and whether you are comfortable granting the listed permissions. This guide does not give exact Chrome DevTools menu names or shortcuts: a current authoritative Chrome workflow was not established here.

Choose the method that fits the job

iPhone webpage in Safari Screenshot thumbnail, then Full Page Apple documents preview navigation and cropping; the guidance is for iPhone.
Firefox on desktop Firefox screenshot feature Supports visible-area and full-page captures, with copy or save options.
Firefox, technical workflow Web Console screenshot command Mozilla documents a full-page option; use its current syntax.
Chrome GoFullPage extension, if suitable Review the extension’s current permissions and privacy details first.
Need a readable or printable document Consider the browser’s print-to-PDF option A PDF is a different output from a screenshot; exact steps vary by browser.

There is no single best route for every reader. Prefer the built-in option when it meets your needs, choose based on the browser you actually use, and weigh the convenience of an extension against installing another component. If the desired result is a document rather than a visual image, a PDF may fit better.

Prepare and check the capture

Long pages can contain content that appears only after scrolling or interacting with the page. A capture can also be harder to use if the page was in the wrong state when you took it. Before capturing, decide whether you need the entire page or only a particular section, and make sure the page is showing the content you intend to share.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Review the page state: Check that the right page is open and any content you need is visible or loaded before starting the capture.
  • Inspect the whole result: Scroll through the preview or open the saved image. Look for missing sections, repeated content, or an unexpected cutoff rather than assuming the capture succeeded just because a file was created.
  • Crop with purpose: Cropping can remove irrelevant margins or content, but confirm that it does not remove information the recipient needs.
  • Choose the output deliberately: Use an image when you need a screenshot; consider PDF when reading or printing is the priority.
  • Check sensitive information: Before sharing, review the entire capture for account details or other material you did not intend to distribute.

Troubleshooting full-page screenshots

The capture stops at the visible screen

You may have taken an ordinary screenshot rather than selecting a full-page option. On iPhone, open the thumbnail and look for Full Page. In Firefox, use the full-page capture choice rather than the visible-area choice. In Chrome, confirm that the extension’s own full-page capture action was used.

Part of the page is missing or repeated

Open and inspect the result from top to bottom. If it is incomplete, return to the page, allow the needed content to appear, and capture again. Long or dynamic pages can make output quality a practical concern; do not assume every capture will represent the page perfectly. The Chrome extension listing says it can split images for pages too long for one image, so inspect each part and its order when the result is split.

You cannot find the option

Check that you are using the documented platform and context. Apple’s Full Page guidance applies to iPhone and gives Safari webpages as an example. Firefox has its own screenshot feature. For Chrome, the option discussed here is provided by an extension, not a verified built-in DevTools sequence. If the interface differs, consult current documentation or the extension’s current instructions instead of guessing at a shortcut.

The capture is not the format you need

A screenshot workflow produces an image. If you need a document that is easier to read or print, try the browser’s print-to-PDF route instead; the precise controls depend on the browser. If you need a screenshot image, use the full-page image capture route appropriate to your device.

If you need to capture webpages in code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. Here is the cURL call for an image, following the ScreenshotNeo API documentation:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

For Python, the same endpoint can be called with Requests:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

For Node.js, the request can be made with fetch:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
  • Cookie banners and consent prompts, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each step can be turned off.
  • Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
  • An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients.
  • The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Every feature is on every plan.
