To capture lazy-loaded content reliably, have the AI agent scroll through the page, verify that the content you need has appeared, and then take a full-page screenshot. In Playwright, fullPage: true expands the screenshot to the full document; it does not itself scroll through the page to trigger content that loads only when it enters the viewport.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss content
Playwright describes a full-page screenshot as an image of the entire scrollable page, “as if you had a very tall screen.” The fullPage option sets the screenshot extent; it is not a command to visit each part of the page through ordinary scrolling. That distinction matters when a page defers work until a region enters the viewport. Native lazy images and content activated by IntersectionObserver or scroll events may not be ready just because the browser can produce a full-height image. A Playwright issue opened May 21, 2026 describes missed lazy images and iframes, scroll-triggered reveal animations, and virtualized list rows as examples of this failure mechanism: Playwright issue #40941. The issue describes possible behavior, not a rule that applies to every site.
Use this workflow with a Playwright AI agent
- Navigate and wait for the state your task needs. For example, wait for a known page element or a task-specific state rather than assuming a generic load event means every below-the-fold item is ready.
- Scroll through the relevant page regions. Let below-the-fold areas enter the viewport so lazy images and scroll-triggered content have a chance to load. There is no universal scroll distance or delay that works for every site.
- Verify the expected content. Check the images, sections, or other elements the task requires. If the page has a “Load more” button, use it as needed. For a virtualized list, scrolling may replace off-screen rows instead of leaving every row in the document, so handle and verify the needed content explicitly.
- Return to the desired capture position, if needed. If the image should begin at the top, scroll back to the top before capturing.
- Capture the full document. In a Playwright script with a
pageobject, use:

Finally, inspect the image or separately validate the elements that matter. Scrolling first is a practical way to activate viewport-dependent content, not a guarantee that every page will render everything. Report the capture as incomplete if you cannot verify required content.
Choose the capture mode that matches the task
- Viewport screenshot: Use it when only the currently visible screen matters.
- Element screenshot: Use it when you need one component rather than the whole document. Playwright MCP documents element targeting and full-page capture as distinct modes; its
targetandfullPageoptions cannot be combined. See Playwright Screenshots (MCP tools). - Full-page screenshot: Use it when the goal is the whole scrollable document, after activating and checking the content the page exposes.
Handle pages that need more than scrolling
“Load more” controls
Scrolling may not fetch additional results if the site requires a button or other explicit interaction. Activate the control, wait for the new content, and verify it before capture.

Virtualized lists
A virtualized list may render only the rows around the current viewport and remove earlier rows as you move down. A single full-page screenshot may therefore omit rows that were never present together in the rendered page. Capture the required sections separately or use a site-specific method that exposes the needed data, and report any limits clearly.
Nested scroll areas and gated pages
Content inside a nested scroll container may require scrolling that container rather than the main page. Authentication gates and other site-specific interactions may also prevent the expected content from appearing. Identify the relevant container or gate, handle it explicitly where authorized, and verify the result before presenting the screenshot as complete.

Troubleshooting incomplete screenshots
- Images are missing: Scroll the image regions into view, wait for them to appear, and verify them before capture. A full-page option alone may not trigger native lazy loading.
- Sections are blank or hidden: Check whether the site reveals them on scroll or requires a control to be activated. Wait for a task-specific visible state instead of relying only on a generic page-load event.
- Some list rows are absent: Check for virtualization or pagination. Scroll and capture the required portions individually, or activate the page’s explicit loading control.
- The screenshot is still incomplete: Check nested scrolling, authentication, and other site-specific requirements. There is no universally correct wait time, scroll interval, or readiness test; do not claim success when required content cannot be verified.
