If a banking app blocks screen recording or the saved video shows a black screen, stop trying to capture that protected content. A bank app may be using a security control, and another recorder is not a reliable or appropriate way around it. For transaction evidence, use a bank-issued receipt, statement or transaction-history export; for a tutorial or bug report, use a demo account or mock screen with personal details removed.
Why a banking app recording may be black or blocked
A black frame does not by itself prove which protection a bank app uses. Behavior varies by app and device, but Android and Apple both document ways apps can protect or respond to sensitive screen content.
Android: protected windows can exclude content from capture
Android’s FLAG_SECURE window flag tells the system not to allow screenshots or show that window on a non-secure display, such as a cast screen. Android identifies banking apps and password managers as examples of apps that may use it. This is a protection apps can choose to apply; it does not establish that every bank app uses it.
Android describes the protection as covering most use cases, not as flawless. Its documentation says that on Android 11 (API 30) and lower, FLAG_SECURE helps reliably on around 70% of devices, including a limitation involving some devices that can record keyboard taps. That figure applies only to those older Android versions and is not a statistic about banking apps or current Android devices.

iPhone and iPad: app behavior can vary
Apple’s normal recording method is to open Control Center, tap the Record control, wait for the countdown, and then leave Control Center. Stop recording using the on-screen recording indicator or Control Center; the video is saved in Photos. Apple notes that some apps may not allow audio or video recording, and recording cannot run at the same time as screen mirroring.
Apple’s developer guidance describes apps detecting screen capture, mirroring or remote-control activity and responding—for example, by hiding or redacting sensitive fields. The exact response depends on the app. Apple’s older 2017 technical Q&A is archived; current implementation details should be taken from current SDK documentation.

Choose a safe record for what you need

Options differ by bank. A screen recording is not a substitute for an official transaction record, and a bank may have a preferred process for disputes or technical reports.
What to do when capture is restricted
- Try only the device’s standard screen recorder on a screen the bank allows you to capture. If protected content appears black or the app warns that recording is restricted, stop.
- For transaction evidence, check the bank app or website for a receipt, transaction-history download or statement. If you cannot find the record you need, contact the bank through its official support route.
- For a demonstration or bug report, recreate the steps in a demo environment or mock account. Review the full recording before sharing it and remove personal or financial details.
- If you need to show the bank an issue that cannot safely be recreated, ask its support team for an approved way to submit evidence.
Why bypass tools are not the answer
Do not root or jailbreak a device, install a capture-bypass app, or try another tool to defeat a banking app’s restriction. A different recorder cannot be relied on to capture a protected window, and bypassing the restriction risks exposing financial information. Google Play’s Device and Network Abuse policy requires apps distributed there to respect another app’s FLAG_SECURE declaration and prohibits facilitating ways around it.

Screenshot detection is different from preventing capture
Android 14’s screenshot-detection API can notify an app about certain user-initiated screenshots taken with hardware buttons; it does not give the app the screenshot image. That notification is distinct from FLAG_SECURE, which is the documented mechanism for keeping activity content out of screenshots and non-secure displays. Android also restricts screen-buffer capture without user consent: MediaProjection allows capture with user consent, but that consent does not mean an app’s protected window must become recordable.
