Short answer: Do not build an unauthorized scraper for Trustpilot. Trustpilot’s consumer and business terms prohibit text mining, data mining and web scraping without express permission. If you need review or company data, obtain written authorization for your exact use case or investigate the Trustpilot for Business API, which requires a Business account with the API module. Confirm the current terms, fields, retention and redistribution rights before collecting anything.
What Trustpilot’s rules mean for a developer
Trustpilot’s consumer terms apply to people who access the platform directly or indirectly, including through automated technologies such as AI agents and screen scrapers. They prohibit collecting platform content except as provided on the platform or specifically approved by Trustpilot. They also prohibit text mining, data mining or web scraping without express permission. The consumer terms (Version 7.0, February 2025) state: “You must not carry out in any way (including facilitating, permitting or authorising) any text mining, data mining or web scraping of our platform for any purpose without our express permission.”

The business terms apply a similar rule: accessing, searching or collecting platform content must be permitted or authorized, and text/data mining and web scraping in relation to the platform or services are prohibited. A page being publicly visible, copyable in a browser or allowed by a robots.txt file is not established by these terms as permission.
What counts as scraping
- Fetching review pages repeatedly with a script or headless browser.
- Extracting review text, ratings, author names, dates, company profiles or TrustScores into a database.
- Using an AI agent, screen scraper or browser automation to collect content at scale.
- Republishing, selling, training a model on or combining collected Trustpilot content with another dataset.
Manual viewing for ordinary site use is different from automated collection, but the surfaced terms do not create a blanket manual-copying exception. If your project involves retaining or reusing content, ask Trustpilot to confirm what is allowed.

Choose a permitted route before writing code
| Route | When it fits | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Do not collect Trustpilot content | You only need to understand a company or link users to its profile. | Use your own records or information that the company has supplied directly; do not copy Trustpilot content into a new dataset. |
| Express written permission | You need specified reviews or company fields for research, analytics, display or internal operations. | Exact fields, volume, purpose, retention period, security, geographic scope, attribution and redistribution rights. |
| Trustpilot for Business API | You represent a business and need supported integrations or review data access. | Business-account eligibility, API-module access, available endpoints and fields, current terms, rate limits and permitted display or reuse. |
Trustpilot’s developer introduction describes APIs for triggering invitations, collecting and displaying reviews, and integrating with an existing toolchain. It says API data access requires a Trustpilot for Business account with access to the API module. It does not establish an unrestricted public consumer API, universal access, pricing or rate limits.
How to request authorization
- Describe the project. State whether the data is for internal analysis, a customer-facing display, compliance, research or another purpose.
- List every field. For example: review identifier, rating, title, body, publication date, reply, company identifier and aggregate score. Do not request “all data” when a narrower set is sufficient.
- Explain collection and storage. Include expected request frequency, number of records, retention, deletion handling, encryption, access controls and backup policy.
- Describe outputs. Say whether data will be displayed verbatim, summarized, exported, sold, used for model training or shared with third parties.
- Ask for written scope. Request confirmation that the proposed method and fields are authorized, along with attribution requirements and restrictions on caching or redistribution.
- Recheck before launch. Terms and API documentation can change. Keep the approval, account details and current documentation with the project record.
Use the Trustpilot for Business API when eligible
If Trustpilot approves your use and enables the API module, build against the official documentation and authentication flow supplied to your account. Design your client so that authorization is explicit and revocable rather than treating a public web page as an API.
Recommended ingestion design
- Store the source record identifier and retrieval timestamp for every item.
- Keep raw responses separate from normalized fields so you can audit transformations.
- Use only documented endpoints and honor the account’s rate limits and quotas.
- Apply field-level retention rules; delete records when the authorization requires it.
- Preserve required attribution and do not imply that a review is your own editorial statement.
- Build a stop switch that disables collection if authorization expires or an endpoint changes.
Data-quality checks
- Validate that ratings, dates and identifiers match the documented types.
- Deduplicate by the API’s stable identifier, not by review text.
- Record edits, deletions and company replies according to the API’s change semantics.
- Do not infer missing demographic, location or identity data from a reviewer’s profile.
What not to do
- Do not rotate proxies, spoof user agents, defeat bot checks or bypass access controls to collect more pages.
- Do not treat a CAPTCHA-free response, cached HTML or a browser session as consent.
- Do not republish copied reviews on another site without written rights.
- Do not ask an AI agent to “crawl Trustpilot” as a workaround for the same prohibition.
- Do not rely on a third-party dataset whose provider cannot show authorization and provenance.
Potential consequences of unauthorized scraping
Trustpilot’s March 2026 Action We Take policy says unauthorized scraping threatens data reliability and community protection. It describes possible blocking of access and, where appropriate, legal proceedings. The policy characterizes unauthorized scraping as including automated collection, commercial use, text/data mining and republication.
For businesses, Trustpilot’s June 2026 guidelines describe possible measures including blocking or suspending business-account features, terminating an agreement, placing a Consumer Warning, hiding a TrustScore and legal action. These are Trustpilot’s stated potential actions, not a prediction that every case will receive every measure.

The following pseudocode shows the control flow for an approved API integration. Replace the placeholder client with the SDK or HTTP details Trustpilot provides to your authorized account; do not point it at public review HTML.
- Load the API credential from a secret manager, never from source control.
- Request only the documented fields and page size covered by your approval.
- Persist the response, source identifier and timestamp.
- Apply validation, deduplication and retention rules.
- Stop and alert on authorization, scope, quota or schema errors.

Troubleshooting lawful access
“I can see the reviews, so why can’t my script collect them?”
Visibility is not authorization under the cited terms. Stop automated collection and request permission or API access.
“My Business account exists, but API calls fail.”
A Business account alone may not include the API module. Confirm module access, credentials, endpoint, scopes and current account status with Trustpilot.
“The API response lacks a field I need.”
Do not scrape the web page to fill the gap. Ask whether the field is available, whether an approved export exists, or whether your use case can be redesigned without it.
“Our legal team approved the project, so we can proceed.”
Internal approval does not replace Trustpilot’s express permission or API authorization. Keep both records and verify that the external permission covers the exact method and purpose.
“Data changed after we stored it.”
Use documented update or deletion behavior, retain retrieval timestamps and honor any correction or removal obligations in your authorization.

If you have permission to capture a page for documentation or QA, ScreenshotNeo provides a single-call screenshot API. It is not a way around Trustpilot’s terms: obtain authorization first, and capture only pages and purposes covered by that authorization. Cookie or consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are not billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
cURL (see the ScreenshotNeo documentation):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.trustpilot.com -o shot.webp

Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.trustpilot.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.trustpilot.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Responses identify whether a capture was clean, billed or rejected through the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account to start with 1,000 screenshots per month and no card.
