To schedule website screenshots in India, run headless Chrome in a Google Cloud Run service or job in Mumbai (asia-south1), then use Cloud Scheduler to trigger it on a cron schedule. Use an authenticated service account for invocation, choose the intended time zone, and save the resulting image to a storage location your workflow can access.
Choose between a Cloud Run service and a Cloud Run job

Both Cloud Scheduler and Cloud Run list Mumbai as asia-south1. Select Mumbai for the relevant resources if that is where you want the scheduling and capture workload located. Location alone does not determine the location of the target website or any connected services; Google notes that using products across locations can affect latency and cost. Build the screenshot workload
Google’s Cloud Run browser-automation guidance names Puppeteer and Playwright and includes taking web-page screenshots as a use case. The browser script, output destination, retries, and capture settings are choices for your application rather than a prescribed Google screenshot recipe. See browser automation on Cloud Run.
A minimal Playwright capture function can navigate to a page and write a PNG in the container’s writable temporary directory. Package Chromium and its runtime dependencies in the container image along with Playwright. For a scheduled production workflow, send the image to durable storage or another destination before the job exits; a file left only in a container’s local filesystem is not a durable archive.

Some sites keep network connections open, so networkidle may not be appropriate for every target; use a more suitable readiness condition or a bounded delay for those pages. Add your own upload step to preserve the screenshot after the execution finishes.
Configure the schedule in Mumbai
- Choose a Google Cloud project and enable the Cloud Scheduler API. Google’s Cloud Run scheduling instructions cover the required setup for services and jobs.
- Deploy the capture workload to Cloud Run in
asia-south1(Mumbai), with its browser and application dependencies included. - Create a Cloud Scheduler job in
asia-south1. Set a five-field Unix-cron expression and select the time zone for the intended operating schedule. For example,0 */3 * * *runs every three hours, as shown in Google’s Cloud Run scheduling guide. Choose the time zone explicitly rather than assuming the scheduler’s default matches your business hours; Cloud Scheduler documents the cron and time-zone behavior here. - For a service target, configure the scheduler to make an authenticated HTTP request. The official service tutorial uses an OIDC token and a service account. Grant that identity only the permission it needs to invoke the service.
- For a job target, configure the identity and permission needed to invoke the Cloud Run job, following Google’s job scheduling procedure.
- Run an initial invocation and inspect the Cloud Run execution details or logs. Google notes that an initial invocation in its HTTP function tutorial can take a few minutes to configure and run; that timing is not a general guarantee for every Cloud Run workload. See the tutorial.
Secure the trigger and handle output
Do not make a capture endpoint public solely to let the scheduler reach it. Use the documented authenticated invocation path and a service account with narrowly scoped permissions. Store credentials and destination configuration outside the source code, and avoid logging sensitive headers, cookies, or page content.

Decide what should happen if a page fails or an output upload fails: log the target and failure reason, preserve enough context to investigate, and configure retries or alerting to fit the consequences of a missed capture. These are application-level reliability decisions; the cited Google guides establish the scheduling and invocation patterns, not a screenshot-specific retry policy or storage design.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
- Location: Mumbai is available for both Scheduler and Cloud Run as
asia-south1. If storage, queues, or other dependent services are in another location, cross-location use can affect latency and cost. - Capture duration: page scripts, large assets, and readiness conditions affect how long a capture takes. The available Google guidance does not establish a guaranteed screenshot latency.
- Cost: no workload-specific cost comparison is established here. Estimate based on your actual Cloud Run execution pattern, schedule frequency, browser resource use, and any storage or network services; check current Google Cloud pricing and quotas before deployment.
- Compatibility: browser rendering can vary with the target site’s behavior and the browser version packaged in your container. The cited material does not guarantee compatibility with every site’s browser requirements.
Troubleshooting scheduled captures
- The schedule does not run: confirm the Cloud Scheduler API is enabled, the job is in the intended project and region, and the cron expression and selected time zone represent the desired run times.
- The trigger returns an authorization error: check that the service account configured for the scheduler has permission to invoke the Cloud Run service or job, and that the service target expects the authentication method you configured.
- The service is invoked but no image appears: check the Cloud Run logs for navigation, browser launch, or upload errors. Ensure the script writes the image to the destination you expect and that the workload identity can write there.
- The page times out: inspect whether navigation reaches the target and whether the chosen wait condition is achievable. Some pages do not become network-idle; use an appropriate readiness signal and a bounded timeout.
- The first run is slower than later runs: Google documents a few minutes of setup and execution for an initial invocation in its HTTP function tutorial, but does not establish that duration for all workloads. Inspect the relevant execution logs rather than treating it as a fixed startup time.

What cron expression runs a capture every three hours?
0 */3 * * * is Google’s documented example for a run every three hours. Set the scheduler’s time zone to the one your operating schedule requires.
