Use Restream’s Pre-recorded livestream workflow—not a manually started Restream Studio session. Connect your YouTube channel, upload or select a video, schedule the event, and enable YouTube as its destination. Restream says the event starts automatically at the scheduled time, so your computer does not need to stay on. You can prepare the upload from a computer or mobile phone.
What you need before scheduling
- A Restream account and a YouTube channel you can authorize.
- A prerecorded video available in Restream, or a file you can upload from a computer or mobile phone.
- An event title, description, date, and time.
Restream says scheduling prerecorded livestreams is available on all plans, including its free plan. Free-plan thumbnails carry Restream branding, and storage and upload limits depend on the account tier or add-on. Check the requirements shown in your account before relying on a particular file size or duration; a universal maximum is not established in the cited documentation. Restream’s prerecorded-event instructions describe the workflow and plan qualifications.
Schedule a prerecorded YouTube livestream in Restream
- Connect YouTube. In Restream, open Channels, choose the option to add a channel, select YouTube, and authorize the Google account associated with the channel. Restream’s YouTube channel connection guide covers authorization.
- Open the prerecorded-video workflow. From the Restream home screen, choose New Stream → Pre-recorded livestream → Video. This is the scheduled upload flow; it is different from starting a live Studio session.
- Select or upload the video. Choose a file from Restream’s Uploads or Recordings, or select Upload Video to add one from your device. Restream documents uploads from desktop and mobile, as well as imports from Descript, Google Drive, or Dropbox. The event guide and Upload & Stream guide explain the available sources.
- Fill in the event details. Enter the title, description, date, and time. Add a thumbnail if you want one. Restream documents looping a single video up to 10 times—not indefinitely.
- Choose YouTube as a destination. Continue to the destination step, make sure YouTube is enabled, and create the event. Confirm the selected channel and scheduled time before finishing.
- Let the event start automatically. Restream says a scheduled prerecorded event begins at its scheduled time even if you are offline. You do not need to open Studio and press Go Live. While it is airing, you can open the event to monitor the stream and chat.
Prerecorded event, playlist, or live Studio session?
Use a prerecorded event for an uploaded recording
A scheduled prerecorded event is the relevant option when you want an existing video to air later without a computer running the broadcast. Restream distinguishes it from a Studio event, which is manually entered and started. See Restream’s event scheduling instructions.
Use a playlist for multiple videos
Restream’s Upload & Stream feature supports a single video or a playlist. If you want a sequence rather than one recording, prepare the playlist and schedule it through the prerecorded workflow. A single video can be looped up to 10 times; do not assume this means the event can repeat forever. Details are in the Upload & Stream documentation.

An encoder is for a different production need
YouTube’s encoder workflow can accommodate external audio or video equipment and advanced multi-camera setups, but those are not prerequisites for scheduling an uploaded recording through Restream. YouTube describes encoder-based broadcasting in its live streaming with an encoder guide.
Test the YouTube connection and check the event
Restream’s stream-testing guide describes using an unlisted YouTube stream to check how a stream connects to YouTube and appears there. That is a general connection test; the guide does not establish that it verifies the entire scheduled prerecorded event’s automatic start from beginning to end. Consult Restream’s stream testing guide for the test method, and verify the event details and destination in Restream before its scheduled time.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube is missing as a destination: Return to Channels, connect or reauthorize the correct YouTube account, then reopen the event and enable that channel.
- The event does not begin when expected: Check the event’s scheduled date and time and confirm that YouTube is enabled as a destination. Restream’s automatic-start statement applies to its scheduled prerecorded-event workflow, not a Studio session that has not been manually started.
- The video will not upload: Check the account’s current storage and upload requirements. Restream’s limits vary by tier or add-on; do not assume a fixed maximum file size or duration.
- You expected an unlimited loop: Restream documents a limit of 10 repetitions for a single video. Use a playlist if your intended program consists of multiple recordings, and check the event setup for the options available to your account.
- The thumbnail shows Restream branding: Restream says free-plan event thumbnails carry its branding. Check the plan details in your account if that presentation matters.
