You schedule the public live event in YouTube Studio, then connect OBS to it with the event’s stream URL and stream key. At broadcast time, OBS must send the video feed; in YouTube’s Live Control Room, check the preview and select Go live. Scheduling the event does not, by itself, start OBS or schedule a local video to play.
What you can schedule—and what you still need to start
YouTube Studio schedules the live event and its watch page. OBS is the encoder that sends video and audio to that event. Those are separate actions: creating a scheduled event does not switch on your computer, start OBS, or trigger a local video source.
YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the event setup and handoff to an encoder, but do not establish how to automate playback of a local video in every OBS version or configuration. The steps below cover scheduling the YouTube event and connecting OBS; plan and verify any unattended OBS playback separately.
Check channel eligibility first
- Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Live streaming must be enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until broadcast day.
- The cited YouTube guidance is general encoder guidance, not a separate India-only procedure. Mobile live-stream requirements and monetization eligibility can differ from encoder streaming.
See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guidance.

Schedule the YouTube event
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and choose Schedule stream.
- Create a new event or reuse settings from an earlier stream. Set the title, description, visibility, scheduled time, and other event details.
- Save the event. Scheduling can place it in subscribers’ upcoming feeds, and viewers can choose to receive a reminder.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
YouTube describes stream keys as the credentials that tell an encoder where to send the feed and let YouTube accept it. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.
Connect OBS to the scheduled event
- Open OBS and go to its stream settings. Select YouTube as the service if available, or use the custom server option provided by your OBS setup.
- Enter the stream URL and stream key shown for the scheduled YouTube event. Do not share screenshots or recordings that reveal the key.
- Set up your OBS scene and video source. If the source is a prerecorded file, confirm separately that your chosen OBS version and setup will play it as intended; the YouTube scheduling process does not configure that behavior.
- Start streaming in OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check that the picture and audio are correct.
- When ready to begin the public broadcast, select Go live in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder feed and starting the YouTube event are distinct steps.
- At the end, end the event in Live Control Room and stop OBS from sending the feed. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; this does not schedule OBS playback.
Prepare and monitor the broadcast
- YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Use the early preview period to verify that the correct event is receiving the feed and that audio and video are present.
- Check that the event is accessible from your channel and watch page. Monitor the stream during the broadcast, and if you are recording locally, verify that the archive file is growing.
These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees of uninterrupted delivery. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Rights, archives, and monetization
Use video and music you are authorized to broadcast
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for live and archived content, including music, and to comply with applicable laws. Scheduling an event or sending it through OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast a film, song, or other third-party material. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and use content you have rights to stream.
Do not assume a scheduled event will earn revenue
Ads can serve when a channel is monetized and monetization is enabled for the live stream; specific ad features have their own availability and exclusions. Scheduling alone does not enable monetization or guarantee earnings. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshooting
- Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification, recent live-stream restrictions, and whether activation is complete. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- OBS connects but the event has no preview: Confirm that OBS is sending to the URL and key for the scheduled event, and that streaming has actually been started in OBS. Check the key for typing errors and reset it if it may have been exposed.
- The preview appears but viewers cannot see a live broadcast: Confirm the event is ready and select Go live in Live Control Room. The incoming encoder feed alone is not the same as starting the event.
- The scheduled event appears, but the video does not start unattended: The schedule controls the YouTube event, not local OBS playback. Verify a separate OBS playback or automation setup for your installed version; do not assume the scheduled start triggers it.
- The stream ends or the archive is missing: Review the event and encoder status. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; do not assume the same archive behavior for longer streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video looping on a YouTube channel without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
