Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not automate a continuous playlist. For a true 24/7 feed, FFmpeg must keep sending media, and you need to supervise the process and plan for recovery.
Choose between a scheduled event and a continuous feed
A YouTube live event and its encoder feed are related but distinct. In Studio, you schedule and promote an event. FFmpeg supplies the video and audio to YouTube using the ingest URL and stream key from Live Control Room. A scheduled event alone does not keep a playlist playing around the clock.

For recurring events, YouTube’s API distinguishes a liveBroadcast (the event) from a liveStream (the reusable ingest configuration). That model is for managing distinct events, not evidence that a stream key or scheduled event automatically creates a 24/7 playlist.
Schedule the YouTube event in Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then schedule a stream.
- Set the event’s title, visibility, date and time, audience selection, and other available event settings.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key into your encoder configuration. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start sending content from FFmpeg when you are ready. YouTube’s encoder workflow ends the live feed when the encoder stops sending content.
Scheduling gives viewers a promoted event and watch page. It does not start FFmpeg, select or loop your files, keep a VM running, or restart an encoder after a failure. For a continuous 24/7 channel feed, verify how your chosen event and stream setup behaves in Live Control Room before relying on unattended operation.

Prepare an Indian cloud VM for continuous playout
An India-region VM can keep the encoder running while your personal computer is off, but the region by itself does not establish that a machine has enough capacity or suitable service limits. Choose a provider and configuration only after checking the workload and current terms.

- Region and availability: confirm that the provider currently offers the required VM and storage in the intended Indian region.
- Encoding capacity: determine whether FFmpeg will copy compatible streams or encode them, then confirm sustained CPU or hardware-encoding capacity for that mode. A short test is not proof of long-run capacity.
- Persistent media storage: keep the playlist on a disk or storage service that remains available after a VM reboot. Confirm available capacity and access permissions.
- Outbound transfer: check the provider’s data-transfer limits and charges for continuously sending a feed.
- Restart and supervision: decide how the process starts after a reboot, where logs go, and how you will detect a stopped process or a lost connection.
- Terms and credentials: review provider and YouTube account requirements, and protect the stream key and any storage credentials.
There is no universally appropriate India VM size or price established for this workload: requirements depend on the media, output settings, encoding mode, provider limits, and desired resilience.
Build and test the FFmpeg playlist workflow
The basic path is persistent authorized files → FFmpeg input and playlist/looping logic → real-time-paced output → YouTube ingest URL and stream key. FFmpeg’s -re option (also described as -readrate 1) reads an input at its native frame rate. The FFmpeg manual identifies this pacing as useful when output timing matters, including live streaming; it does not make a process reliable or guarantee a correct command for every combination of files and stream settings.

- Inventory your media. Check the video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, duration, and whether the files have compatible formats. Confirm you have permission to stream them.
- Decide how the playlist should behave. Choose which files play, their order, whether playback repeats, and what should happen at transitions. A one-file loop and a multi-file playlist are different input configurations; validate the exact FFmpeg setup against your media rather than assuming one command fits both.
- Set output to match your YouTube ingest configuration. Select an output format and encoding or stream-copy approach that the source media and YouTube ingest can handle. Use the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Avoid exposing the key in public scripts, logs, or screenshots.
- Apply real-time pacing where appropriate. Use FFmpeg’s documented input pacing behavior for live output. Confirm that the output proceeds at the intended rate; pacing an input alone does not handle reconnection, playlist errors, or process restarts.
- Test with the actual files and settings. Start the encoder while watching Live Control Room’s stream health and preview. Check audio, video, transitions, and whether the stream arrives as expected before leaving it unattended.
- Set up operational recovery. Arrange process supervision, persistent logs, and a way to detect a dropped YouTube feed or VM restart. Test the recovery path deliberately; do not assume that FFmpeg or the VM will recover correctly without configuration.
See the FFmpeg documentation for input pacing and other command options. A generic command is deliberately not given here: the correct options depend on the source files, playlist design, encoding choice, and YouTube settings, and the documented behaviors do not validate one production command across those variables.
Plan around event transitions and YouTube archives
Transitions between scheduled events
If you need separate, promotable broadcasts, create and manage separate scheduled events. YouTube’s API supports binding multiple broadcast resources to one reusable stream resource when encoder settings are shared, with only one event live at a time in the documented pattern. Plan how the encoder feed stops or changes between events; the reusable ingest configuration does not combine those events into a single uninterrupted broadcast.

Recordings of long streams
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that rule to promise a complete single archive for a stream that runs 12 hours or longer. If you need full on-demand copies of a longer playlist, plan separate shorter events or make and store an independent recording.

Troubleshoot a cloud-hosted playlist
