YouTube Studio schedules the live event; it does not take a playlist of prerecorded videos and loop it as a live broadcast on its own. For a software-based setup, schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, then use OBS Studio with a VLC Video source to play and loop your playlist. Start the feed from OBS, check its preview in YouTube Live Control Room, and select Go live.
How the scheduled stream and playlist work together
There are two separate jobs: YouTube Studio creates and schedules the live event, while an encoder sends the video and audio feed. In the workflow below, OBS is the encoder and VLC supplies the playlist. The viewer’s YouTube loop control is different: it repeats playback for a viewer and is not a way to broadcast a playlist as a live stream.
The sources reviewed do not describe a native YouTube Studio scheduler that accepts a playlist and loops it as a live broadcast without an encoder. A scheduled watch page alone does not make the event live; the encoder must send content, the preview must appear, and the event must be started in Live Control Room.
Before you schedule
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Confirm your channel is eligible before preparing the event: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Confirm rights for every item in the playlist
Make sure you have the necessary rights for each video and every audio track, including music. The live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. A playlist being prerecorded or publicly accessible does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions before streaming.
Install the required software and prepare the files
Install OBS Studio and VLC on the computer that will run the stream. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. Put the video files in the intended playback order and keep them accessible to the computer for the duration of the stream. Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open Manage.
- Create the scheduled event: Select Schedule stream, then enter the event details and choose its privacy setting.
- Keep the event details handy: You will need the event’s stream URL and stream key when you connect OBS. YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in the subscriber feed, where viewers can opt in to be notified.
Labels and controls can change; YouTube’s current setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder, and stream configuration details are in Set up your encoder for live streaming.
Build and loop the playlist in OBS
- Add the playlist source: In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you will use for the broadcast.
- Load the videos: Add the local video files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them played.
- Enable repetition: Turn on Loop Playlist. This is the playlist-level loop control; it is distinct from the single-file loop option in OBS’s standard Media Source.
- Check playback: Confirm the expected video appears in the OBS canvas and that the playlist advances as intended before you begin the event.
For a broadcast of just one video, use OBS’s standard Media Source and its separate Loop setting instead of creating a VLC playlist. The VLC Video source’s loop and playlist options are described in the OBS Media Sources guide.

Connect OBS to the scheduled stream
- Open OBS stream settings: Enter the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key, or choose YouTube as the service if that option is available in your OBS setup.
- Protect the stream key: Treat it as a credential. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
- Match the correct event: Check that the key and URL belong to the scheduled event you intend to broadcast, rather than another stream or an older event.
- Start sending the feed: Start streaming from OBS. This sends the encoder feed; it does not by itself replace the separate start step in YouTube Live Control Room.
Preview, go live, and end the event
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the OBS feed to appear in the preview.
- Check that the picture and audio are correct and that the playlist is playing as expected.
- Select Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready for viewers to see the broadcast.
- When the broadcast is finished, end the event in YouTube and stop sending from OBS.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive threshold is not a substitute for planning how to end or monitor a longer broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

YouTube’s encoder options page names the AJA HELO Plus and its PlayToStream feature for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer; it does not establish that the device loops a playlist. Troubleshoot the common failure points
The VLC Video source is missing
OBS needs VLC installed for this source to appear. Install VLC and make sure its architecture matches OBS—for example, use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS—then reopen OBS and check the source list again.
The playlist plays once and stops
Open the VLC Video source’s settings and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. If you are using a standard Media Source for one file, check its separate Loop setting instead.

The scheduled event has no preview
Confirm OBS is sending to the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, then check that OBS is actively streaming and the source is visible in the selected scene. Wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
The event is scheduled but viewers cannot see a live broadcast
Scheduling creates the event; it does not start the encoder feed or start the broadcast. Start sending from OBS, verify the preview, and select Go live in Live Control Room.
The stream will not start on the channel
Check channel verification and live-stream restrictions, then confirm the channel meets YouTube’s age guidance. YouTube’s eligibility details are in its live-streaming help.
You are unsure whether the content can be rebroadcast
Pause the setup until you have confirmed rights for each video and audio track. Check that the material also complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and livestream terms; a successful preview does not establish permission to stream the content.
