To go live with a playlist at a set time, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or cloud service that can play the playlist and automate the stream start. For 4K60, YouTube lists 35 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate, or 10–40 Mbps for AV1 and H.265.
What YouTube scheduling does—and does not do
A scheduled YouTube Live event creates an upcoming watch page that you can share and that viewers can receive reminders for. The outgoing video feed is a separate job: an encoder or streaming service must send video to the event, and it must separately support scheduled playlist playback if you want prerecorded videos to play in order automatically. YouTube’s event scheduler alone does not establish either capability.
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop controls concern starting or stopping a stream from the encoder. YouTube describes the setting this way: “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” That is not the same as scheduling a playlist. Confirm that your chosen encoder or service can automate both playlist playback and stream start at the event time.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Enable live streaming. Make sure your channel can livestream and meets YouTube’s current requirements. YouTube notes that first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Open the scheduler. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, open Manage, then choose Schedule stream.
- Set up the event. Reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new event. Enter the title, description, privacy setting and scheduled time. Keep the stream URL and key available for the encoder, and use the event’s actual watch page when promoting it. You can change the privacy setting; its default can vary depending on the creator’s age.
- Configure playlist automation separately. In the encoder or service, choose the prerecorded videos and their playback order. Set it to send the feed to the scheduled event and check its documentation for a way to start at the chosen time. Do not assume that YouTube Studio will trigger playlist playback.
- Check auto-start only as an encoder control. You can review YouTube’s live stream settings, but verify how those settings work with your specific automation software. They do not add a playlist scheduler to an encoder that lacks one.
Set up the 4K60 video feed
YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance lists the following 2160p60 ingestion settings. These are settings for the feed sent to YouTube—not a guarantee that the source, encoder, network or viewer can sustain 4K60.

YouTube also lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1, and frame rates up to 60 fps. Use constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. The low-latency option is unavailable for 4K streams, which use normal latency.
Choose a bitrate the encoder and upload connection can sustain, then test with representative motion and audio. A nominally correct setting cannot compensate for an unstable connection or a source that is not actually 4K60.

Preflight before the scheduled start
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event’s scheduled time. Use that lead time to catch a wrong key, an inaccessible event or a playlist issue before viewers arrive.
- Confirm that the event is public or otherwise accessible to the intended viewers, and that you are using its correct watch page.
- Check that the encoder is connected to the scheduled event and that the playlist is in the intended order.
- Open the Live Control Room preview and verify picture, audio and stream health.
- Test a representative section of the playlist, including motion and sound, rather than relying only on a still frame.
- Monitor the stream through startup and confirm the automation behaves as expected.

Choose an encoder or service that can automate the playlist
Before committing to a product, check its current documentation for the capabilities that matter to this workflow:
- Can it schedule playlist playback and advance through videos in order?
- Can it start sending the feed at the scheduled time, and does that work with YouTube’s event and stream key?
- Does it support 2160p60, a suitable codec and the required bitrate?
- How does it handle a dropped connection or a stopped stream, and can you monitor failures?
- What are the ongoing costs and operating requirements?
YouTube’s verified encoder list includes the Osprey Video Talon, described as accepting sources up to true 4K and delivering feeds up to 4K60p. YouTube says listed verified encoders are not made by YouTube. This is an optional hardware encoding route; the listing does not establish that the Talon schedules or plays playlists.
