YouTube Studio can schedule livestream events, but its documented workflow does not provide a recurring timer that switches between separate daytime and nighttime playlists in one continuous broadcast. To make that change automatically, use a streaming service that explicitly supports timed playlist transitions, or build custom automation. If separate events are acceptable, you can schedule a daytime event and a nighttime event in YouTube Studio and start each with an encoder.
First decide whether you need one stream or two events
A 24/7 broadcast that changes from daytime programming to nighttime programming is different from two scheduled livestreams. With two events, viewers may need to open a new event when the program changes. With one continuous broadcast, the service or automation must change the media while keeping the intended YouTube broadcast running.
YouTube’s encoder instructions cover scheduling events, reusing settings, and starting an encoder; they do not document a recurring day/night playlist timetable. Do not assume that scheduling a YouTube event also starts a local encoder or switches media automatically. YouTube’s encoder workflow says scheduling lets creators promote a stream; viewers can receive reminders and use the event URL.
Option 1: Schedule separate daytime and nighttime events in YouTube Studio
Choose this approach if separate event URLs and a handoff between broadcasts are acceptable. Create a scheduled event for each playlist and start transmission at each event’s scheduled time.

- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Create a stream or reuse prior settings. Set up one event for the daytime program and another for the nighttime program.
- Prepare the encoder for each event using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. At the scheduled start, connect the encoder and start sending video.
- Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then select Go live as directed by YouTube’s encoder workflow.
- Share each scheduled event URL in advance so viewers can find the right program and set reminders.
This is a schedule for two events, not a native repeating playlist switch. The reviewed YouTube documentation does not establish recurring event calendars with separate playlist assignments.
Option 2: Use a cloud playlist service for continuous prerecorded programming
A cloud service can send uploaded video files to YouTube without requiring your personal computer to remain online after setup. Before subscribing, confirm the exact transition behavior you need: recurring day/night times, playlist selection at each transition, what happens at playlist boundaries, whether the YouTube event remains open, and how interruptions are handled.

Services and documented limits
These options are not interchangeable: their published limits describe different scheduling and playlist workflows. Vendor conditions can change, so check the linked help page before choosing.

Choose by continuity and control, not by the phrase “24/7”
- Ask whether the service changes playlists at fixed local times and repeats that schedule daily.
- Clarify whether the switch keeps one YouTube event open or ends one event and starts another.
- Check playlist length, video-count limits, maximum broadcast duration, and what happens when a playlist ends.
- Confirm how transmission starts, whether the computer can be off, and how the service responds if YouTube drops the stream.
- Compare the full plan cost and required tier against the schedule features you actually need.
Option 3: Build custom automation with the YouTube Live Streaming API
The YouTube Live Streaming API distinguishes scheduled events, represented by liveBroadcast resources, from outgoing video transmissions, represented by liveStream resources. A live stream can be bound to multiple broadcasts. This resource model can be used in custom scheduling software, but it does not itself provide a ready-made playlist player or prove that playlist changes will be automated.

A custom system therefore needs both event-management logic and a media playback/encoding component that can select the correct playlist at the required time. Design for failures such as an unavailable video, lost encoder connection, API errors, or a missed handoff; test those cases before relying on the stream for unattended operation.

Keep the broadcast safe and discoverable
- Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. A valid stream setup does not grant permission to rebroadcast music, footage, or other material.
- Make the daytime and nighttime event titles, descriptions, and schedules clear if you create separate events, and share the correct event links ahead of time.
- For prerecorded programming, make sure the stream has a legitimate programming purpose and complies with YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies; do not assume that looping content is automatically eligible for monetization.
Troubleshooting schedule and handoff problems
- The scheduled event exists, but no video appears: scheduling does not itself transmit video in YouTube’s documented encoder workflow. Connect the encoder with the correct server URL and stream key, start transmission, and check for a preview in Live Control Room.
- The stream starts but does not switch playlists: a YouTube event schedule is not a documented recurring playlist scheduler. Check whether your provider supports timed transitions specifically, or use separate events or custom automation.
- Viewers lose the stream between daytime and nighttime: you may be ending one event and beginning another. Confirm whether the workflow keeps one event open; if not, share both links and explain the handoff to viewers.
- The service stops before the day is over: compare your intended run length with plan or playlist limits. For example, OneStream Live documents a 30-day maximum for its Enterprise 24/7 feature, while Restream’s documented playlist limit is 24 hours.
- A playlist ends early or plays the wrong content: verify the playlist order, duration, selected schedule, and boundary behavior in the provider’s preview or test stream before using it for a public broadcast.
