You cannot follow a verified save-and-switch preset procedure yet. Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is unreleased, and Gust has announced only three body-shape controls: turn changes on, turn them off, or lock Karia at a preferred shape. Snacks change her shape only when the feature is on and unlocked. A conventional menu for saving several named presets, loading them later, or switching between them has not been documented.
What is confirmed about Karia’s body-shape system
Gust has described an appearance system driven by snack consumption. When body-shape changes are enabled, the amount Karia eats during snacks can move her appearance through different stages. When changes are disabled, eating does not alter her shape. The third option is a lock: you can keep the feature enabled while preventing further snack-driven changes to a preferred shape.
The game has not launched, so these are feature-level descriptions rather than a tested menu walkthrough. No official control names, button prompts, save-slot design, or platform-specific navigation have been published.

The announced release date is February 25, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The interface could differ among those versions, and any launch-day manual or patch could add controls that were not in the announcement.

The three announced controls
Body-shape changes ON
ON is the snack-responsive mode. Karia’s appearance can change as she consumes snacks, with the amount eaten determining how her shape develops. This is the setting to use if you want the mechanic to remain active during normal play.
ON does not mean that every snack necessarily produces an immediate visible change. Gust’s description establishes a relationship between eating and shape, but it does not give thresholds, timing, a per-snack formula, or a list of which foods produce which stage.

OFF is the appearance-preserving mode for players who do not want snacks to alter Karia’s shape. Gust says that her shape will not change no matter how much she eats while the feature is off.
The announcement does not say whether switching OFF restores an earlier shape, freezes the current stage, or chooses a separate default. Treat OFF as a prevention setting, not as a confirmed reset command.

Lock a preferred shape
Lock is different from turning the system off. Gust says you can leave body-shape changes ON and lock Karia at a preferred shape. Once locked, further eating will not change that shape.
The published description does not explain how the preferred shape is selected, whether you must reach it through snacks first, or whether the lock remains active after loading a save, changing areas, or restarting the game. Those details need confirmation from the final interface.

Are there five selectable presets?
Reports describe five body-shape stages, ranging from slim, through Karia’s default appearance, to a fuller figure. That establishes a range of reported outcomes, not a confirmed preset menu.
No announcement documents a numbered stage list, a slider, a direct “choose stage” command, or a set of saveable appearance slots. The stages may be reached through snack consumption, but the evidence does not establish that players can jump directly from one stage to another.

Why a verified save-and-switch walkthrough is not available
A real procedure would need more than the words ON, OFF, and lock. It would need the location of the setting, the exact menu labels, the button or keyboard input, the confirmation step, and the way the game stores the choice. Gust has not published those details.

It is therefore not accurate to give instructions such as “open the Options menu, select Body Shape, choose Slot 1, and press a button.” That sequence would be speculation. The same applies to claims that presets are stored in the save file, shared across save files, or available from a shortcut during play.
Until the game is released, “save a preset” should be read as an unconfirmed possibility rather than a feature you can rely on. The only confirmed way to preserve an appearance is the lock described by Gust, and even its persistence across sessions has not been explained.
How to use the confirmed modes when the game is available
The following is a safe, evidence-based workflow. It describes the decisions Gust has confirmed without inventing an interface path.
- Locate the body-shape setting. Look in the game’s published manual or in the in-game settings for wording that corresponds to body-shape changes. The exact menu location and label are not yet known.
- Choose ON if you want snack-driven changes. In this mode, continue playing and eating snacks normally. Karia’s shape can change according to how much she eats.
- Observe the shape you prefer. The announcement reports five stages but does not identify their thresholds. If the game shows a preview, stage name, or confirmation prompt, use that information rather than assuming a particular snack count.
- Apply the lock at the preferred stage. Use the control that the final game provides for locking the current or selected shape. The purpose of this control is to stop further snack-driven changes while leaving the feature ON.
- Use OFF when you want no snack-driven movement. This prevents eating from changing Karia’s shape. Do not assume it will restore a previous stage unless the game explicitly offers a reset or restore command.
- Record the actual control behavior. At launch, note whether the lock survives a save/load cycle, a chapter transition, or a restart. Those persistence rules are not in the announcement.
If the released game presents a direct stage selector or multiple slots, its on-screen instructions should take precedence over this pre-release description. Those would be newly documented controls, not details established by the original announcement.

The table deliberately separates “preserve a shape” from “save multiple presets.” Gust confirms the former through the lock, not the latter through a slot system.

Does body shape affect abilities?
The announcement discusses appearance and abilities separately. Gust has said that synthesized items can affect appearance and abilities, but the published body-shape statement does not say that changing or locking Karia’s shape changes her statistics, skills, equipment effects, or other gameplay capabilities.
Do not choose a body-shape mode expecting a known combat bonus or penalty. Until the game’s manual or in-game explanations connect a particular shape with an ability, treat the confirmed effect as visual and snack-related only. A lock’s effect on abilities is likewise unspecified.
What to check on release day
Because the game is still in development, these checks can turn an uncertain feature into a reliable personal workflow without assuming undocumented behavior.
- Read the platform-specific controls. Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam may use different buttons or input prompts.
- Search the settings and tutorial entries for all three concepts. Look for terms equivalent to change, disable, lock, appearance, body shape, or snack effects.
- Check whether the game displays a stage indicator. If it names or numbers five stages, record those exact labels; the pre-release material does not provide them.
- Test one change at a time. If you are determining what a snack does, keep the feature ON and unlocked, consume the snack, and observe the result before changing another setting.
- Verify the lock visibly. Look for a lock icon, status message, or confirmation. If no status is shown, save, reload, and check whether eating still changes the shape.
- Test persistence separately. Confirm whether the lock survives loading a save, switching chapters, changing maps, and restarting the application. None of those behaviors has been announced.
- Check update notes. A post-launch patch could add direct selection or preset storage, so the version number matters when comparing instructions.
Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“Five stages” does not mean “five save slots”
A stage is an appearance state reported by coverage of the feature. A preset slot is a storage function that would let you name and recall a state. Only the former has been reported, and even the stage labels are not public.
OFF is not confirmed as a reset
OFF prevents snack-driven changes. It has not been described as a command that returns Karia to her default or slim appearance. If you need a different stage, wait for a documented selector or use the game’s actual progression mechanics.

Lock is not confirmed as a permanent account-wide preference
Lock protects a preferred shape from further eating while active. The announcement does not say whether it applies to one save, all saves, one playthrough, or the entire game profile.
A snack count cannot be inferred from the announcement
No numeric threshold, food list, serving size, or timing rule has been published. Guides that assign exact numbers before launch would be extrapolating beyond the available information.
What a future preset system would need to document
If Gust adds conventional presets, a useful manual should answer several practical questions. Players will need to know whether a preset stores only the visual stage or also the ON/OFF and lock status; whether presets are shared across save files; whether loading one changes gameplay abilities; and whether snacks can overwrite an unlocked preset.
It should also specify whether a preset can be created from the current shape, whether stages can be selected directly, how many slots exist, and which input confirms deletion or replacement. None of those functions is currently confirmed, so they should not be presented as launch features until the game exposes them.

Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is scheduled for February 25, 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Availability, editions, regional storefront listings, and final interface details may vary by platform and had not been verified in the announcement covered here.
