If you need a readable PDF of a webpage, open it in Chrome and choose Ctrl+P → Save as PDF. If you need a PDF that looks exactly like the visible screen, first capture the screen area with Windows Snipping Tool, save the image, then print that image to a PDF destination. A browser-printed PDF and a screenshot PDF are different: printing can reflow the page, while a screenshot preserves only the pixels you captured.
Choose the right kind of PDF

Option 1: Save the webpage directly as a PDF
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Press Ctrl+P. Chrome documents this shortcut for Windows and Linux.
- In the print preview, set the destination to Save as PDF, if that destination is available.
- Adjust available print settings, such as pages or layout, if needed, then select Save.
- Choose a folder the café permits. Note the filename and location, then open the PDF to make sure it saved and displays as expected before you leave.
This is usually the simpler choice for reading or printing the page. It may rearrange content to fit printed pages, so use the screenshot method if matching the visible screen is essential. Chrome’s print instructions identify the destination label as “Save as PDF.”
Option 2: Turn a screen capture into a PDF
- On Windows, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay.
- Select the area containing the webpage. Snipping Tool supports rectangular, freeform, window and full-screen captures.
- Open the snip in Snipping Tool and save it as an image in a permitted location.
- Open the saved image and use its print command. In the print dialog, choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF, if the computer offers one, then save the PDF.
- Open the resulting PDF and check that the captured area is legible and complete.
A capture records only what was on screen in the selected area. For a long webpage, scroll and capture additional sections if you need them; consider direct webpage-to-PDF printing when you need the whole page as a document. If the café computer blocks a step
Availability depends on that computer and the café’s rules. Snipping Tool, keyboard shortcuts, PDF destinations, writable folders, USB ports and even file cleanup may be restricted. Ask staff which workflow and save location are permitted. Do not install screenshot or PDF software on a shared machine; Government of India IT security guidance says to use only software permitted by the system administrator. Find the PDF and leave the shared computer safely
- Check the save location you selected. If you used Chrome’s default on Windows, its documented default download location is the current user’s Downloads folder; the user or administrator can change it or configure Chrome to ask where to save files. Chrome: Download a file
- Open the PDF once to confirm it exists and is usable. Keep track of its filename and location long enough to retrieve it.
- If you downloaded a personal document, follow the café’s rules for removing it when finished, and log out of any accounts. Government of India guidance warns that data left on a public computer may be accessible to others and advises: “Don’t enter sensitive information into a public computer.” It also says: “Always make sure to logout properly when you leave Cyber cafe.” Government of India IT security guidance
- Avoid opening private account details or capturing sensitive information on a cyber café computer. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal advises using a personally owned device or trusted network for sensitive services and avoiding public computers and cyber cafés for sensitive browsing. If you need to carry the file away, use only a save or transfer method the café permits. A USB drive is optional, not required; do not assume removable media is allowed.

Common problems and fixes
- There is no “Save as PDF” destination. The PDF destination may not be enabled or available on this café computer. Ask staff what approved option is available; do not install a substitute.
- Ctrl+P or Windows+Shift+S does nothing. The shortcut may be disabled, the operating system may differ, or café controls may restrict it. Ask staff for the permitted method; the Snipping Tool shortcut described here is for Windows.
- The PDF is missing or you cannot find it. Check the location selected in the save dialog. For Chrome on Windows, Downloads is the documented default unless the user or administrator changed it or set Chrome to ask for a location.
- The screenshot PDF cuts off the page. A snip captures only its selected screen area. Capture further sections after scrolling, or use Chrome’s direct print-to-PDF workflow for a multi-page document.
- The PDF does not look like the webpage. Print layout can reflow content. If you need the exact appearance of a visible area, capture that area first and print the saved image.
- You cannot save, copy, or delete the file. The café may restrict folders, downloads, USB access or cleanup. Ask staff for help and follow local rules rather than trying to bypass restrictions.
