In Firefox, select Save to PDF; in Edge, use Print and check the preview and available destinations. This works only when the browser, device and your access to the page permit printing, so there is no universal way to bypass every block. Check the saved PDF for missing content before relying on it.
First, identify what “blocks printing” means
It can describe several different problems, and the right next step depends on which one you see:
- The website’s print button does nothing or is absent: use the browser’s Print command instead.
- Print preview opens but content is missing or changed: try a reader or simplified view if available, then inspect the output carefully.
- No PDF or printer destination appears: a browser or organization policy may restrict printing. On a managed school or work device, ask IT rather than trying to change administrator settings.
- You are not permitted to make an offline copy: ask the site owner or content provider for an authorized copy. A browser workaround is not a substitute for permission.
Chrome Enterprise documentation describes a policy configuration where selecting all printer types disables printing. That is one possible explanation for missing destinations, not proof that it is the cause on your device (Google Chrome Enterprise and Education Help).
Save the page with the browser’s print command
- Open the page and wait for the material you need to finish loading. If it requires sign-in, keep your account session active.
- Open the browser’s own Print command—not the website’s print button. In Firefox, open the application menu and choose Print. In Edge, choose Print from the browser menu or use a documented keyboard shortcut; see Mozilla’s Firefox printing guide and Microsoft’s Edge printing guide.
- In Firefox’s print preview, set the destination to Save to PDF. In Edge, select a PDF destination if one is available. Review the preview, page count, orientation and margins before saving.
- Open the saved file and check the beginning, end and any important tables, images or sections. Web pages can print differently from their on-screen appearance; Mozilla notes that pages may be set up to appear differently on paper (Mozilla Support).
Improve a cluttered or incomplete printout
Firefox Simplified format
When Firefox offers Simplified format in print settings, try it for article-like pages with navigation, ads or other clutter. Mozilla says simplified printing removes clutter such as buttons, ads and background images (Firefox simplified printing guidance). Because this can omit visual elements, compare the saved PDF with the page if those elements matter.

Edge Immersive Reader
On sites that support it, open the page in Immersive Reader, then print from that view. Microsoft notes that Immersive Reader is not available for every website (Microsoft Support).
Chrome Reading mode
Chrome Reading mode may offer a cleaner reading view, but Google says it may not work as expected with formats such as image galleries, interactive maps, forms, quizzes, payment pages and login screens. A missing or unsuitable reading view does not establish that Chrome is broken (Google Chrome Help).

Use Edge’s alternatives when preview is the problem
Microsoft documents opening the system print dialog from Edge as another route when browser preview does not work as expected. Edge also supports printing selected content: select the passage or material first, open Print, and confirm in the preview that the selection includes everything required. These routes still depend on the available print destinations and device policy (Microsoft Support).
When no built-in method works
- On a managed device: ask the school or employer’s administrator whether printing is restricted. Do not attempt to override policy.
- For protected or permission-limited material: contact the site or content provider for an authorized downloadable copy.
- For an ordinary page that merely has a broken print control: a browser extension is an optional formatting or capture tool, not a guaranteed way around restrictions. The PrintFriendly Chrome Web Store listing advertises PDF conversion and full-page capture, but that listing does not establish that it will work on a particular site. Review permissions and privacy terms before installing it (Chrome Web Store listing).
