This is different from Safari’s PDF export and from saving a single image on a Mac. On Mac, Safari’s built-in File > Save As choices are Web Archive and Page Source, not a whole-page image export.
Choose the result you actually need
“Save a webpage as an image” can mean three different things. Pick the row that matches your goal before following a procedure.

A PDF, Web Archive and HTML source are not interchangeable with a raster image. Safari’s labels and available save destinations can change between operating-system releases, so check what your device displays before promising a particular file type.
Save a full webpage as an image on iPhone
1. Open the page in Safari
Navigate to the page you want to preserve. Let important images and sections finish loading; a screenshot records what Safari has rendered, not content that has not appeared yet.

2. Take a screenshot
On an iPhone with Face ID, press the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press the side (or top) button and Home together. Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner before it disappears.
3. Select Full Page
In the screenshot editor, tap Full Page. Safari displays a tall preview that extends beyond the visible screen and can capture the entire webpage. Drag the page preview to inspect the captured length.
4. Crop or annotate if needed
Use the crop controls to trim unwanted browser content and Markup to draw, highlight or add text. These edits apply to the captured screenshot, not to the live webpage.
5. Save or share
Use the share or save control shown by your iOS version. Apple’s guide does not specify one image format for every Full Page save option, so confirm the extension and destination on your device rather than assuming PNG or JPEG. If you need a guaranteed document format, use the PDF workflow below instead.

The iPad workflow is the same in principle: open the Safari page, take a screenshot using your iPad’s button combination, tap the thumbnail, choose Full Page, then crop, mark up and save or share. If Full Page is absent, the current page or app may not expose a scrollable-document capture, or the operating-system version may present the control differently. A normal screenshot then captures only the visible viewport.

Save a Safari webpage as a PDF on iPhone or iPad
Use this route when the recipient needs a printable or searchable document rather than a raster image:
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu button in the address bar.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Markup.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, select a folder, name the file and save it.
This creates a PDF. It is not an image export, even though the page may look similar when viewed.
What Safari on Mac can and cannot save
Save one image already on a page
Control-click (or right-click) an image and choose Save Image or the equivalent image-saving command. This extracts that asset at the size and format supplied by the site. CSS background images and some other rendered graphics do not expose a saveable image command.

Choose File > Save As. Safari documents Web Archive, which preserves page graphics and links while destination pages remain available, and Page Source, which saves the HTML source. Neither option is a single screenshot image.
Why Web Inspector is not a whole-page image solution
Safari’s Web Inspector opens from the Develop menu with Option-Command-I, or from a page context menu’s Inspect Element. It is intended for examining resources and activity. Apple’s consumer documentation does not establish a supported, ordinary-user workflow that turns Web Inspector into a full-page image exporter. Do not rely on an undocumented inspector sequence when a reproducible image is required.

Optional third-party Mac capture apps
A Mac App Store listing for FullPage Screenshot for Safari advertises full-page capture with PNG and PDF export and lists Mac, iPad and iPhone support. The listing also states that its information has not been verified by Apple. Price, compatibility and features can change, so check the current listing and test a small page before depending on it for production work. Treat this as an optional app, not an Apple-built-in capability.
Make the capture complete and readable
Wait for dynamic content
Scroll through the page once before capturing to trigger lazy-loaded images. Expand accordions and dismiss video overlays that would otherwise be recorded. A Full Page capture can only include elements Safari has rendered.

Handle sticky headers and consent dialogs
Fixed navigation bars may repeat down a long capture, while cookie notices can cover content. Accept or dismiss dialogs first, then capture. If a site keeps reopening a banner, use the site’s preferences or reader-friendly view rather than editing every occurrence afterward.
Check long-page limits
Very long pages can produce large files or a capture that is shorter than expected. Inspect the Full Page preview from top to bottom and capture sections separately if the saved result is unwieldy.
Protect private data
Review the address bar, account names, notifications and page content before sharing. Crop or mark up sensitive information, and avoid uploading confidential pages to an unapproved third-party service.
Troubleshooting
There is no Full Page option
Confirm that you opened the screenshot thumbnail immediately and that the page is in Safari, not an embedded view inside another app. Some pages do not expose a scrollable document to the screenshot system. Update iOS or iPadOS when practical and retry after the page finishes loading.

The capture stops partway down
Scroll the page manually to load deferred sections, close obstructing dialogs and try again. Pages with continuously changing feeds may have no stable endpoint; capture a bounded section or use several screenshots.
Images are blank or missing
Wait for images to load, disable a content blocker temporarily for that site, and retry. Images loaded only after interaction may require opening the relevant panel first.
The saved file is not PNG or JPEG
Full Page’s save choices vary by operating-system version. Inspect the file’s extension and share sheet. If you specifically need a raster format and your device does not offer one, use a compatible capture app or an API that returns PNG, JPEG or WebP.
A Mac right-click cannot save a graphic
The visible artwork may be a CSS background, canvas drawing or protected resource rather than an ordinary image element. Save the page as a Web Archive, ask the site for the original asset, or use an authorized capture workflow.

Which method should you use?
- Choose Full Page on iPhone or iPad for a quick scrolling capture.
- Choose Safari’s PDF route when printability, text selection or archival sharing matters.
- Use Mac’s image command for one embedded asset, not an entire webpage.
- Use Web Archive or Page Source when you need the webpage structure rather than a picture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Safari save a webpage directly as a JPG on every device?
No. The iPhone and iPad Full Page interface does not promise one universal image format, and Mac Safari’s built-in Save As choices are Web Archive and Page Source.
Does a full-page screenshot include content hidden behind a collapsed section?
Only content Safari has rendered. Expand interactive sections and trigger lazy loading before capturing.
Is Safari’s Web Archive the same as a screenshot?
