The quickest method: open the page, choose File > Print, click the PDF button (or its menu), select Save as PDF, name the file, choose a folder, and click Save. macOS creates the PDF without a printer or separate PDF application. This workflow is documented by Apple Support.
Save a webpage as a PDF with the Mac print dialog
- Open the webpage in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or another app that supports printing.
- Choose File > Print. You can also press Command-P in most apps.
- Review the preview on the left. If the preview is hidden, expand the dialog to reveal it.
- Set the printer to any available option if macOS asks; you do not need a connected printer to create a PDF.
- Click PDF at the bottom of the print dialog, then choose Save as PDF.
- Enter a filename, select a destination, and click Save.
The resulting file is a rendered, shareable document. It captures what the browser sends to print, not an editable copy of the webpage’s source code.
Fix the layout before you save
Use the print preview and the controls in the dialog to make the document readable. Apple’s print-settings guide describes the controls below; the exact options can vary by application.
Choose pages
Use the page-range control to save all pages or a specific range, such as pages 1–3. Selecting a range is useful when a long article contains comments, navigation, or appendices you do not need.

Set paper size
Choose a paper size that matches the person who will read or print the file, such as US Letter or A4. A mismatch can create extra page breaks or larger margins.
Switch portrait and landscape
Portrait is usually best for articles. Landscape can prevent wide tables, code blocks, calendars, and spreadsheets from being clipped.
Adjust scaling
Reduce the scale when content runs beyond the right edge or produces an unwanted final page. Increase it only when text remains comfortably inside the margins. Check several preview pages after changing the value; a setting that fixes one page can create awkward breaks elsewhere.
Look for app-specific options
Browsers may expose options such as background graphics, headers and footers, or a simplified reader view. These are application-specific, so do not assume that a setting shown in Safari will appear in another browser.

Safari’s File > Save As command offers Web Archive and Page Source, according to Apple’s guide to saving webpages in Safari. Neither option is a PDF.

Some websites can prevent saving items that appear on the page. If Safari’s Save As choices do not meet your goal, return to File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF. For a page that is difficult to print, try Safari’s Reader view first when it is available, then print the simplified version.

Send a webpage as a PDF from Safari
If you only need to send the page rather than keep a local file, Safari’s Share menu can email a webpage in several forms, including PDF. Apple also lists webpage, link, and Reader article choices in its Safari sharing instructions.
- Open the page in Safari.
- Click the Share button in the toolbar.
- Choose Mail (or another available sharing destination).
- Select the PDF format when Safari presents the available webpage formats, then send the message.
This route is convenient for a one-time handoff. Choose the print dialog instead when you need to name the file, select a folder, control a page range, or verify the saved copy locally.
When the PDF looks wrong
Images or sections are missing
Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through it once to trigger lazy-loaded images, and print again. A page may also use screen-only elements that the print stylesheet hides. Try Reader view or the browser’s print-preview options for backgrounds and graphics.
A banner, navigation bar, or chat panel takes over the page
Dismiss the banner before printing. If the site offers a reader or print view, use it. You can also select only the relevant pages in the preview instead of saving the entire document.
Text is cut off at the right edge
Change to landscape, choose a larger paper size, or lower the scale. Wide tables often need landscape orientation; do not keep shrinking text until it is unreadable.
The page spans too many sheets
Check whether headers, footers, large margins, or advertising blocks are being printed. Use a reader view, select a narrower page range, or reduce scaling modestly. Preview page breaks before saving.

Confirm that the page itself has loaded and that you are printing the webpage window rather than an empty tab or dialog. Reload, wait for dynamic content, and retry. If the site requires a sign-in, authenticate before opening the print dialog.

Links do not behave as expected
A PDF preserves links only when the browser includes them in the printed rendering; interactive scripts and live content are not retained. If you need a copy that keeps webpage behavior, Safari Web Archive is a different format with different dependencies.
Privacy, access, and file-management considerations
Respect access controls
Saving a page does not grant permission to redistribute copyrighted, paywalled, or private material. Keep credentials and confidential data out of filenames and shared folders, and follow the site’s terms and applicable law.
Check the saved file
Open the PDF in Preview after saving. Confirm the page count, readable text, images, and any links you need. Preview can export PDFs and images, but Apple documents that as a separate workflow from creating the PDF through printing: Preview’s export guide.

Keep versions understandable
Use a descriptive filename such as project-spec-2026-09-29.pdf. If the webpage changes frequently, include the access date in the name or in a note accompanying the file; the PDF itself is a snapshot of the printed rendering.

Use the print dialog’s page range for page-level selection. For a specific on-page element, a capture tool that supports CSS-selector targeting is more suitable.
