Open the SingleFile self-extracting archive in Chrome, wait for the saved page to render, then press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. Choose Save as PDF, check the preview and page settings, and save. SingleFileZ has been merged into SingleFile; the self-extracting format is available in SingleFile’s options under File format. The project repository documents that change.

Before you print: open the archive in Chrome

  1. Find the saved archive. SingleFileZ’s FAQ describes the self-extracting file format as .zip.html.
  2. Open the file in Chrome with the SingleFile extension installed. Chrome restricts extensions from accessing local files by default, so allow the extension to access file URLs in Chrome’s extension settings. The exact setting label can vary by Chrome version. See SingleFileZ’s FAQ.
  3. Wait for the archived page to render. JavaScript must be enabled to open saved pages, according to the project FAQ.

If you are creating a new archive with the merged project, use SingleFile’s options and select the self-extracting format in File format.

Print the archived page to PDF

  1. With the archived page open and rendered in Chrome, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS.
  2. In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF.
  3. Review the preview. Adjust layout or margins if needed, then save the PDF.
  4. Open the saved PDF and check important text, images, page breaks and frame content.

This uses Chrome’s standard print-to-PDF flow. The cited instructions for that general flow are from a third-party document, not a Google help page specific to SingleFile archives. See Chrome print-to-PDF instructions.

What to check in the resulting PDF

Think of the PDF as a print rendering of the archived page, not a guarantee that every live-page feature will be preserved. SingleFile can collect resources such as images, CSS, frame contents and fonts, but the project documentation notes that settings which make saved pages smaller or faster can omit resources such as frames or deferred images. The sources do not guarantee that interactive or dynamic behavior will survive printing. Check the PDF itself when an image, frame or other page detail matters. See the project FAQ.

Troubleshooting

The archive does not display in Chrome

Confirm that the SingleFile extension is installed and permitted to access local file URLs. Chrome’s local-file restriction can prevent an extension from viewing a saved archive unless that access is allowed. The project FAQ notes that the filesystem restriction does not apply when a saved page is hosted on a server; for this local-file workflow, check the extension permission.

The page stays blank or does not finish rendering

Make sure JavaScript is enabled, then reopen the archive and allow time for the saved content to render before printing. If it still does not display, the archive may not contain the resources needed for that view; printing before the page renders will not produce a reliable PDF.

The PDF is missing images or frame content

Inspect the saved archive and its SingleFile settings. Resource-saving settings can omit frames or deferred images, and the print output can only use what is available to the rendered page. Recreate the archive with the needed resources included, then print and inspect the new PDF.

The preview has awkward page breaks

Use the print dialog’s layout and margin settings, then review the preview again before saving. Reopen the PDF afterward to verify the result; do not assume the web page’s screen layout maps cleanly to printed pages.

If you need a screenshot rather than a PDF of an archived page, ScreenshotNeo can capture a webpage through one API request. It accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, with the response identifying the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-info tools for AI agents.

For a PDF output, set format=pdf as described in the ScreenshotNeo API documentation. Example cURL request:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d format=pdf -o page.pdf

The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
