If a banking app blocks screenshots, use a record the bank provides instead: check the transaction for a receipt or share/export option, download a statement through online banking, or contact the bank through an official support channel. There is no safe, general phone setting for overriding an app’s protection, and the available record options vary by bank, device, and app version.
Why a banking app may block screenshots
Android: the app can prevent capture
Android apps can mark a screen as secure with FLAG_SECURE. Android Developers explains that this prevents screenshots and stops the protected window from appearing on non-secure displays, such as a TV or projector. The documentation identifies handling sensitive information, including in banking apps, as a reason to use the setting: Secure sensitive activities.
Screenshot detection and screenshot prevention are different. Android 14 added an API that lets an app detect a screenshot; FLAG_SECURE is the setting that prevents protected activity content from appearing in one. Detection alone does not mean the phone has blocked capture.
iPhone and iPad: behavior depends on the app
Apple documents ways for apps on iOS and iPadOS to detect capture conditions—including screen recording, mirroring, and remote control—and respond by hiding sensitive information or disabling high-risk actions. That guidance does not establish that every banking app blocks an ordinary screenshot in the same way. The app’s behavior can differ: Apple’s capture guidance.

What to do instead
- Check the transaction itself. Open its details and look for a receipt, share, download, or export control. The location and availability depend on the bank’s app.
- Use online banking for an official record. Sign in through the bank’s website or app and check whether you can download a statement or transaction record. A statement may be more suitable if you need a record covering multiple transactions.
- Ask the bank for documentation. Contact support using a verified route, such as the number on your bank card or the bank’s official website, and request a receipt or other record.
- For a disputed transaction, use the bank’s dispute process. Ask what documentation it accepts and how to submit it securely.
Why not use a screenshot-bypass workaround?
Google Play requires apps to respect another app’s FLAG_SECURE setting and says they must not facilitate or create workarounds to bypass it. Avoid capture-bypass apps, modified banking apps, or changes such as rooting a device to defeat the restriction. Use a bank-issued record instead. See Google Play’s security-flags policy.
Protect your financial information when sharing a record
- Send records only through the bank’s official secure channel or to a recipient you trust.
- Do not post account details, balances, or transaction records in a public forum.
- If you need to share documentation with someone else, ask the bank whether it can provide a version that omits information the recipient does not need.
Getting exact steps for your bank
Menu names and record options cannot be specified accurately without the bank, device platform, and app version. If you need step-by-step directions, identify the bank and say whether you use Android or iPhone/iPad; do not include account numbers, balances, or other private financial details.
