Choose the right way to save the GST Portal content

“CaptureKit” refers to more than one product in the available listings. The Chrome extension and the separate browser-based PDF tool have different documented capabilities; do not assume an extension screenshot download is a PDF or that the PDF tool works with authenticated GST pages.
Check for a GST Portal PDF before capturing the webpage
If you are preserving an official record or summary, look for a portal-generated download first. The GST registration guide says existing registration details can be downloaded as a PDF (GST registration guide). The GSTR-1 guide describes a PDF download for a table-wise consolidated summary and says the described behavior applies from August 2024 return periods (GSTR-1 guide). These are specific outputs, not a general feature for downloading any GST Portal page.
How to capture a GST Portal page with CaptureKit
- Sign in and open the page. Go to the official GST Portal and navigate to the page or record you need. Follow the portal’s login guidance, and do not share provisional credentials (GST Portal login manual).
- Identify your CaptureKit product. Check its listing or interface. The cited Chrome extension is version 1.0.0, updated September 5, 2026; it describes choosing Full Page, Selected Area, or Record Tab, then previewing or downloading the result (CaptureKit Chrome Web Store listing).
- For the extension, select the capture type. Click the extension’s toolbar icon, choose Full Page to capture the page or Selected Area to capture a portion, then preview and download. The listing describes screenshot capture and download, not direct PDF export.
- Choose a PDF method if the output must be PDF. If your exact CaptureKit product and version offers an explicit PDF export, use it. A separate CaptureKit browser listing advertises a “Webpage to PDF” tool using the browser’s native print engine (CaptureKit Webpage to PDF listing). That listing does not establish that it can process an authenticated GST Portal page.
- Otherwise, print from the browser. Open the browser’s Print command and choose Save as PDF as the destination. Review the print preview before saving; adjust available layout or scale controls if content is clipped or split awkwardly.
- Verify the saved file. Open it and check that the needed content, date or context, and readable text are present. Confirm pagination and legibility before relying on or sharing the document.
What to expect from each method
- Portal download: Produces the specific GST record or summary the portal offers. It may be preferable when you need an official portal-generated document rather than a visual copy of the screen.
- CaptureKit Chrome extension: The cited listing documents full-page and selected-area screenshots and short tab recordings. It also warns that Chrome restricts extensions from capturing some browser-internal, extension-store, and other protected pages. This is a general limitation, not a verified failure on the GST Portal.
- CaptureKit browser PDF tool: Its listing describes webpage-to-PDF conversion through the browser’s native print engine. Its compatibility with logged-in GST content is not established.
- Browser Print → Save as PDF: Saves a printable rendering, which can differ from the page’s on-screen appearance. Check the preview and resulting pages for missing, clipped, or unreadable content.
Troubleshooting capture or PDF problems
The extension does not capture the page
Chrome restricts extension access to some protected pages. The CaptureKit listing warns about this class of limitation but does not specifically test GST Portal pages. If capture is unavailable, try the browser’s Print → Save as PDF option, or use a portal-generated PDF when one exists.

The downloaded file is an image, not a PDF
The cited Chrome extension listing documents screenshot downloads, not PDF export. Check the exact product’s export controls; otherwise, use Print → Save as PDF or the separate CaptureKit tool only if it offers a suitable PDF workflow for your page.
The PDF omits content or has poor pagination
Inspect Print preview before saving, then adjust the browser’s available scale, orientation, or margin settings. Reopen the saved PDF and check every page. If the content is a portal record or GSTR-1 consolidated summary, look for its own download instead of printing the whole page.

The PDF tool cannot access a logged-in page
The separate CaptureKit PDF listing does not establish authenticated GST Portal compatibility. Do not assume the tool can see your signed-in session. Use the browser’s own print command while viewing the page, or download the specific portal record if offered.
