Google Photos’ documented video-editing workflow saves your changes as a copy, leaving the original as a separate item. After editing, tap Save on Android or Save copy on iPhone or iPad; the button label and location differ by platform.
Save an edited video on Android

Open the video in Google Photos and tap Edit.

Make your edits, such as trimming or cropping the video.

Tap Save at the top. Google’s Android video-editing instructions describe this as saving a copy with your edits.

Keep an additional local copy
If you also want a copy downloaded to a computer, go to photos.google.com, select the video, then choose More → Download. This is a separate download step; it is not needed to save the edited copy in the mobile app. See Google’s computer download instructions.
Feature requirements can vary on Android
Google lists different device requirements for some Android editing features: certain features require at least 1 GB of RAM and Android 6.0 or later, while adjustments and effects require at least 3 GB of RAM and Android 8.0 or later. Google also says non-Pixel devices running Android 9 do not support or have access to video editing. These requirements depend on the feature and device; they do not apply identically to every edit.
