To save a webpage beyond what fits on screen, use Firefox’s Save full page screenshot option or Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot tool and choose full page. Firefox also supports full-page captures through Developer Tools. Chrome has extension options, but the sources available here do not establish a current native Chrome workflow. The best method depends on your browser, the output you need, and how the page behaves while it is captured.
Choose a method for the browser you use
Start with a browser feature when it covers your needs: it avoids installing another tool and usually offers a direct save or copy action. Use Firefox’s regular screenshot interface for the simplest route, Firefox Developer Tools when you need its additional controls, and Edge’s Screenshot overlay if you want to mark up the image before saving. In Chrome, the documented options here are extensions rather than a verified built-in full-page capture workflow.
| Method | What it offers | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox screenshot interface | Save a full page as PNG or copy it to the clipboard | Fewer controls than the Developer Tools helper |
| Firefox Developer Tools | Full-page or element capture, with helper options including delay and filename | Requires enabling a toolbar button or using the Web Console |
| Microsoft Edge Screenshot | Full-page or selected-area capture, with copy, save, and markup actions | Availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version |
| Chrome extension | Chrome Web Store listings advertise full-page capture; some advertise editing or multiple export formats | Requires installing an extension and reviewing its current permissions and privacy details |
Save a full-page screenshot in Firefox
Use Firefox’s screenshot interface
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot interface. Choose Save full page in the upper-right area of the interface. Choose Save visible instead if you only want what is currently on screen.
- Choose Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s default download location, or choose Copy to put the capture on your clipboard.
Firefox documents Command+S on macOS or Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux for saving, and Command+C or Ctrl+C for copying. The interface and labels can change between browser versions, so use the visible control if a shortcut behaves differently in your installation.
Use Developer Tools
Firefox’s Developer Tools can capture an entire page or an element and its descendants. To use the screenshot button, open Developer Tools, open its settings, and under Available Toolbox Buttons enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. Then click the screenshot icon. Firefox Source Docs say this method saves the capture in the browser’s Downloads directory.

You can also open the Web Console and enter:
:screenshot --fullpage
The documented helper accepts options for waiting before capture, setting device pixel ratio, naming the file, copying to the clipboard, forcing file output, and capturing an element and its descendants. For example:
:screenshot --fullpage --delay 2 --filename page.png
Use a filename ending in .png. If you reuse a filename, Firefox’s documentation warns that a later capture overwrites the earlier file. The --selector option is for capturing a selected element and its descendants; it is not a substitute for --fullpage when you want the whole document.

Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the right-click menu or Edge Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page option rather than a selected area.
- Use the overlay to copy or save the image. If useful, mark it up before saving.
Microsoft describes Edge Screenshot as able to capture a full webpage, including content that would otherwise require scrolling. It also says the tool can keep moving content such as GIFs and carousels on screen during capture. Availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version, so the option may not look or behave identically for every Edge user.
Use a Chrome extension
The Chrome Web Store listings reviewed for this guide include extensions that advertise full-page capture. GoFullPage’s listing includes a changelog whose latest listed entry is version 8.7, dated 2026-08-11. The listing’s earlier changelog entries mention changes related to long-page captures, scrolling, fixed elements, frames, and PDF export. Another listing advertises annotation and PNG, JPG, and PDF export. These are claims and listing details from the extension publishers, not independent testing or guarantees that a capture will work on every website.

Before installing an extension, inspect its current publisher, permissions, store status, and privacy information. An extension is software running in your browser, so consider whether its requested access is appropriate for the pages you intend to capture. The available sources do not establish a current native Chrome procedure for full-page screenshots; this guide therefore does not give Chrome menu steps for one.
Get a more complete capture from a long or dynamic page
A full-page capture is not automatically a perfect record of everything a site could display. The reviewed sources do not establish consistent behavior across all methods for lazy-loaded images, sticky headers, nested scrolling areas, or dynamic pages. Content may load only after you scroll, a carousel may change while the capture runs, and a panel inside the page may scroll independently of the document.
- Check the result. Open the saved image and inspect the top, middle, and bottom rather than assuming the browser captured every section.
- Load content first if needed. If sections or images appear only when you scroll, scroll through the page before capturing, then try again. This is a practical workaround, not a guarantee for every site.
- Use the right scope. In Firefox, use
--selectorwhen you want a particular element and its descendants; use a full-page option when you want the document. - Allow a changing page to settle. Firefox’s documented helper includes a delay option. Waiting briefly before capture may help when visible content is still changing, but it cannot make a site’s behavior predictable.
- Keep the original when accuracy matters. If the screenshot is being used as a record, retain the page URL and capture date separately. A screenshot alone may not show when it was taken or whether the page later changed.
Privacy notes
Mozilla’s support article says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction data such as whether the Copy or Save full page button was used, but not the URL or details of the captured image. The article describes controls for disabling that data collection. This statement applies specifically to Firefox Screenshots; it should not be generalized to Chrome extensions or other screenshot tools, whose privacy practices need to be checked individually.

For automated captures from code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can remove cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before a capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients. Full-page capture with lazy images loaded is among its options. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API parameters and options.

The following one-call example saves the response for the target URL as a file:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace the URL with the page you need to capture and provide your API key. For an explicitly configured full-page capture or a different output format, consult the documentation for the relevant API option rather than assuming an unshown parameter.

Troubleshooting
- The capture contains only the visible viewport. Choose Save full page in Firefox or the full-page choice in Edge, rather than a visible-area or selected-area option.
- The Firefox screenshot button is missing. Open Developer Tools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons. Alternatively, use the Web Console helper.
- The Firefox helper reports a problem with the filename. Use a filename ending in
.png. Avoid reusing a name if you need to preserve the previous capture, because another capture can overwrite it. - Images or sections are missing. The reviewed documentation does not promise uniform handling of lazy-loaded or dynamic content. Scroll through the page to trigger content that loads on demand, then inspect a new capture.
- Edge Screenshot is unavailable or differs from these steps. Microsoft qualifies feature availability and functionality by device, market, and browser version. Check the current Edge interface on your device rather than assuming the option is available everywhere.
- You cannot find a native Chrome full-page option. The sources reviewed establish extension listings, not an authoritative current native workflow. Check the current browser documentation or evaluate an extension’s listing and permissions before installing it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save the screenshot to the clipboard instead of a file?
Yes. Firefox’s screenshot interface offers Copy, and Edge’s overlay can copy the capture. Firefox’s Developer Tools helper also documents a clipboard option.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCan Firefox capture just one part of a page?
Yes. Firefox Developer Tools documents a selector option that captures a selected element and its descendants. Use it when the target is a specific page element rather than the complete document.
Does a full-page screenshot include content hidden behind a login?
A screenshot captures what the browser can render in its current session; it does not grant access to content you cannot view. Sign in through the site normally if you are authorized to view the page, then capture it.
Can I save a website as a PDF instead?
The Chrome extension listings referenced here advertise PDF export, and ScreenshotNeo offers PDF capture. Firefox and Edge steps described above save or copy screenshots as images; these instructions do not establish a PDF export step in either browser’s screenshot interface.
