YouTube Studio schedules each live event; OBS supplies the audio and video. Scheduling an event does not, by itself, make OBS switch to a different media playlist at the scheduled time. To run different playlists, schedule the YouTube events separately and manage OBS playback as a separate step—or validate a separate automation method for your operating system and OBS version.
How the YouTube and OBS schedules fit together
Think of this as two separate layers:
- YouTube Studio creates or schedules the live event, provides its shareable watch page, and lets viewers receive reminders. YouTube Help describes the purpose simply: “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.”
- OBS sends the audio and video feed to YouTube. You configure it with the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, then choose the media source that supplies the video and audio.
A scheduled YouTube event does not establish a clock-based link to an OBS playlist. The official guidance reviewed describes event scheduling and encoder setup, but does not document a built-in OBS feature that selects a different playlist for each scheduled YouTube event.
How do I schedule different playlists on one OBS PC?
For broadcasts at different times on the same channel, you can reuse a stream configuration for separate broadcasts, according to Google’s Live Streaming API documentation. The event schedule and the content playing in OBS still need to be coordinated separately.
- Create each event in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or schedule the event, and note its start time and shareable watch URL. Scheduling lets viewers receive reminders.
- Set up the media for each broadcast in OBS. Use an OBS Media Source or VLC Video Source for the relevant audio/video files. Prepare the intended playlist separately for each event.
- Coordinate the playlist change. At the appropriate time, select or start the intended media in OBS. Manual source selection is the straightforward approach; do not assume that the YouTube event schedule changes OBS sources for you.
- Connect OBS to the intended YouTube stream. Use the YouTube Live server URL and stream key for the channel and event configuration. Keep stream keys private.
- Start the scheduled broadcast. In YouTube’s scheduled-event flow, start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live.
- Check the full handoff. Confirm that the intended playlist is playing in OBS, the preview shows the right content, and the event is live before relying on the schedule for viewers.
Can OBS switch playlists automatically for scheduled YouTube streams?
Do not treat YouTube’s schedule as an OBS playlist scheduler. The reviewed official documentation does not verify a native OBS clock scheduler that binds a particular media playlist to each YouTube event. If you plan to use a timer, script, plugin, or other automation, verify that it works with your installed OBS version and operating system, and test the complete handoff before using it for a public broadcast. A schedule can be correct while the wrong OBS source is still playing.

Which setup fits your broadcast?

Keep one PC from becoming the bottleneck
OBS’s performance guidance explains that the GPU renders and composites scenes. More scenes, sources, and concurrent encoding work can increase system load; no universal PC-capacity figure can establish that a particular setup will work.
- Test the intended resolution, frame rate, encoder, scene complexity, and number of simultaneous feeds together.
- If OBS reports encoding or rendering overload, simplify scenes and reduce workload; consider lower output settings.
- Check that your upload capacity can support every simultaneous feed. A successful test of one stream does not prove that multiple feeds will work.
- Treat OBS’s performance guide, dated June 12, 2021, as general guidance—not certification of a particular multi-instance workflow on your current system.
What happens when a playlist or encoder stops?
A playlist reaching its end is not documented as a guarantee that the encoder or YouTube event will stop. Plan and test what OBS does at the end of the media: whether playback stops, loops, or waits depends on the source and playback configuration you use. Likewise, do not assume that the event schedule will start a new playlist or end a previous encoder session.

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when encoder content stops. That condition applies to streams under 12 hours; the cited guidance does not establish the same automatic archiving outcome for streams lasting 12 hours or longer.
Troubleshooting playlist schedules
- The event is scheduled, but viewers do not see the intended video: YouTube scheduling creates the event, not an OBS source change. Select or start the intended media in OBS and confirm it in the Live Control Room preview.
- The preview does not appear: Check that OBS is sending to the correct YouTube Live server URL and stream key, and that the encoder is running. For the scheduled-event flow, wait for the preview before selecting Go live.
- The wrong channel or event receives the feed: Verify the channel and stream configuration in use. Google’s documentation requires a different stream configuration for each channel.
- OBS struggles when feeds run together: Reduce scene complexity and workload, and test lower output settings. Recheck performance with the actual resolution, frame rate, encoder, and number of feeds you intend to use.
- A long broadcast does not archive as expected: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive condition covers streams under 12 hours when encoder content stops; do not extend that claim to streams of 12 hours or longer.
