You can run a 24/7 YouTube livestream over ACT Fibernet if the connection can sustain your encoder’s upload bitrate, your plan’s data and use terms allow the workload, and interruptions are handled. An advertised plan speed alone does not establish sustained upload performance or guarantee an always-on connection. Measure upload speed at the streaming location, leave bandwidth headroom, test under realistic conditions, and check the exact ACT plan for your city.
What you need to check before streaming around the clock
- Sustained upload capacity: YouTube says total stream bitrate should not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. Account for other devices and network traffic as well as the encoder.
- Wired connection: YouTube recommends Ethernet for streaming from a computer. Connect the streaming computer to the router by cable where possible.
- ACT plan terms: ACT’s published plans and post-FUP speeds vary by city and plan. The terms also distinguish personal residential use from commercial use.
- Interruption response: A connectivity disruption can break a live stream. Keep YouTube’s stream-health information available and configure and test any backup encoder before relying on it.
There is no verified upload guarantee or uptime statistic for an unspecified ACT subscriber plan. Check the plan available at your address and test the connection at the times you expect to stream.

Choose YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt data in transit to its servers. Use the live encoder settings table for the selected codec and resolution; these are livestream settings, not YouTube’s separate video-upload recommendations.
H.264 recommended bitrate examples
| Ingest resolution and frame rate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
These figures are YouTube’s recommendations for the listed H.264 live settings. The official settings table also specifies minimums and values for AV1 and H.265; select the entry that matches the codec, resolution, and frame rate you will actually use.
#1 Best Overall
- Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router - Up to 5400 Mbps WiFi for faster browsing, streaming, gaming and downloading, all at the same time(6 GHz: 2402 Mbps;5 GHz: 2402 Mbps;2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps)
- WiFi 6E Unleashed – The 6 GHz band brings more bandwidth, faster speeds, and near-zero latency; Enables more responsive gaming and video chatting
- Connect More Devices—True Tri-Band and OFDMA technology increase capacity by 4 times to enable simultaneous transmission to more devices
- Unique Design, More RAM, Better Processing - A unique housing design provides optimal heat dissipation, combined with a 1.0 GHz dual-core CPU and 512 MB High-Speed Memory, the AXE75 is designed for long-term reliability and performance.
- EasyMesh-compatible - Extend network range even more by adding EasyMesh-compatible routers, extenders, or wireless powerline adapters for a seamless, whole-home connection. Eliminate dead zones, drops, and lag as you move across your home.
Measure upload speed and test the stream
- Connect by Ethernet if possible. Run the test from the computer and network that will send the stream; a test on another device or over Wi-Fi may not represent the encoder’s connection.
- Measure outbound speed. Check upload, not only download. Repeat the measurement at representative times, including when other household or office devices are active.
- Compare capacity with total bitrate. Keep the stream bitrate below the available upload bandwidth and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if you cannot maintain that margin after accounting for other network use.
- Run a realistic unlisted test. Use the planned resolution, frame rate, audio, and moving video. Watch YouTube’s stream-health notices in Live Control Room and correct warnings before relying on the setup.
- Test continuity. Observe the stream over a meaningful period and under the conditions expected during the 24/7 run. A single speed test does not establish all-hours stability.
Do not treat the plan’s advertised headline speed as a promise of upload bandwidth. ACT’s available plans, FUP details, and post-FUP rates vary by city and tariff; sustained outbound performance at your premises is the practical measure.
Check your ACT Fibernet plan’s FUP and permitted use
ACT’s published unlimited-plan terms describe maximum data limits of 3,300 GB per month or above, depending on the subscribed plan. Once the applicable maximum is reached, FUP throttling applies until the next billing cycle. “Unlimited” therefore does not necessarily mean unlimited data at unchanged speed. Consult the current plan entry and terms for your city, including its post-FUP speed.

ACT states that its unlimited plans apply to residential plans for personal use and cannot be used for commercial purposes; its terms reserve rights concerning commercial use and discontinuing service for misuse. If the stream is commercial or business-critical, ask ACT about an appropriate enterprise service and obtain permitted-use and continuity terms in writing. No enterprise SLA or always-on guarantee is established here.
Enable YouTube live streaming and prepare the event
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. Enable livestreaming ahead of time and choose encoder as the streaming method.
- Set up early. YouTube advises configuring the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Configure the stream in Live Control Room. Review the stream key and server URL, latency, DVR, and auto-start/auto-stop settings. Understand how each affects the stream before enabling it; use the key only in the encoder or service that should broadcast to your channel.
- Check the preview and stream health. Confirm the expected picture and sound in Live Control Room before depending on the stream. YouTube notes that critical errors can prevent an event from starting or affect viewers.
- Plan for failures. YouTube’s tips recommend testing failover with a backup encoder where supported. A backup is useful only if it has been configured and tested; do not assume it is available automatically.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports connection or bitrate problems | Upload capacity is below the total stream bitrate, fluctuates, or is being used by other traffic. | Use Ethernet, retest upload under representative load, reduce the encoder bitrate or output settings, and restore the recommended 20% headroom. |
| Stream disconnects during the day | A connection disruption or other interruption has broken the live feed. | Check ACT service and YouTube stream-health notices. If using a backup encoder, verify that it is configured, has the correct stream details, and has been tested. |
| Performance changes after heavy data use | The plan may have reached its city- and tariff-specific FUP threshold, after which throttling applies. | Check ACT’s current plan terms, usage threshold, and post-FUP speed for your exact plan; test again at the reduced rate before continuing at the same settings. |
| Encoder cannot start the event | The channel may not be eligible, livestreaming may not yet be enabled, or the encoder configuration or stream key may be incorrect. | Confirm channel verification and restriction status, enable encoder livestreaming in advance, and recheck the stream key, URL, and Live Control Room status. |
| Commercial use is questioned or service is disrupted | ACT’s published residential unlimited-plan terms limit use to personal purposes. | Contact ACT about a suitable business or enterprise service and confirm the applicable permitted-use and continuity terms in writing. |
