To run a Tamil music playlist continuously on YouTube, you need more than audio files and an encoder. You need documented rights for every recording and composition, a verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, and an unattended operating plan that can detect failures, rotate sessions and respond to Content ID claims. A licence does not by itself prevent interruptions: the relevant rights owners should add your channel to their Content ID allowlists before you go public.
This guide covers rights clearance, YouTube setup, OBS, hardware encoders, managed cloud delivery, monitoring, recovery and a cloud alternative for creators who do not want a computer running at home.
What a 24/7 Tamil music livestream actually requires
A nonstop channel has three separate layers. Treating any one of them as optional is the usual reason a stream is interrupted.
- Rights: written permission for each sound recording and musical composition, for YouTube Live, in every territory you intend to serve, for the exact term, monetization model and replay rights you plan to use.
- Platform access: a verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus the server URL and stream key for your event.
- Operations: an encoder or cloud service that can run unattended, detect silence and dropped frames, restart after failures, and rotate sessions before platform limits create a problem.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If matched material remains in the feed, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. The practical goal is therefore not merely “own the files”; it is to maintain a rights ledger, have the owners allowlist your channel, and operate a feed that can be stopped or edited immediately when a rights exception appears.

Clear the Tamil music before you build anything
Build a track-by-track rights ledger
Create one record for every song in the playlist. At minimum, record:
- the sound-recording owner, usually the label or artist that controls the master;
- the composition and publishing owner, including any other royalty participants;
- the territories in which viewers may watch;
- the start and end dates of the permission;
- whether YouTube Live is expressly covered;
- whether monetization is permitted and who receives the revenue;
- whether an archived replay is covered, not just the live transmission; and
- the name and contact route for the person who can handle a Content ID claim or urgent takedown.
Keep the licence documents beside the ledger, not in a separate folder that an operator cannot reach. When a claim identifies a track, you should be able to find the exact permission, territory and expiry date without guessing.
Make sure the grant is worldwide where required
YouTube’s livestream terms require you to represent and warrant that you have all rights needed to exploit the live content on its services worldwide, including music-licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. A contract limited to India, or to personal listening, does not satisfy a plan that invites viewers everywhere. If your agreement is territory-limited, configure the distribution and promotion plan to match the actual grant and obtain legal advice before going live.

Ask every relevant owner for Content ID allowlisting
YouTube explains that a licensed third-party stream can still be interrupted when the channel is not on the owner’s allowlist. Ask each Content ID owner to add your channel before the public launch. Send the channel URL or identifier, the licence dates and territories, and a list of the recordings covered. Keep written confirmation and test the allowlist during an unlisted rehearsal.
Territorial restriction alone is not a protection against a live interruption. A match can still trigger while the platform is deciding whether the viewer is in an approved territory.
Clear the pictures as carefully as the music
Album artwork, lyric videos, logos, animations and background loops have their own rights. Permission to stream a recording does not automatically permit its cover art or a fan-made lyric video. Review every visual source in the programme and retain the permission with the audio licence.
YouTube’s advanced live-matching use case requires exclusive ownership and global rights. Its live rules also exclude third-party static images, commercials and background music from that matching use case. That does not make those assets safe to use; it means you must clear them separately and should not assume live matching will detect every problem.
Enable YouTube Live and prepare the event
Verify and activate the channel
- Verify the YouTube channel using YouTube’s account-verification process.
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Confirm that the channel has had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Choose a channel identity and description that make the licensed nature of the Tamil playlist clear, without promising rights you do not have.
Do this several days before your planned launch. The activation delay is a platform process, not an encoder fault, and cannot be fixed by changing software.
Create the stream event and protect the key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Stream.
- Create a new event or schedule one. Enter the title, description, category and visibility that match your channel plan.
- Copy the displayed server URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password; anyone who has it can send video to your channel.
- Set the event to Unlisted or Private for the rehearsal. Do not test a newly assembled playlist in public.
If you suspect the key has been exposed, rotate it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before the next transmission.

Run a real end-to-end rehearsal
Use the actual playlist, visuals, overlays and encoder settings. Let it run long enough to expose silence, a frozen frame, a bad transition or an unexpectedly short file. Check the YouTube preview, outgoing bitrate, audio continuity, metadata and Content ID notices. Ask the rights owner to confirm that the test channel is allowlisted. Move to public only after the rehearsal is stable and every rights exception has an owner and a response.
Choose the way you will keep the channel running
The right architecture depends on who will respond at 3 a.m., whether you need local recordings, and how quickly you must replace a disputed track. The options below use the capabilities established for each method.

The meaningful cost comparison is total operation: equipment, electricity, network redundancy, storage and the time required to recover a failed stream.
Run the DIY version with OBS Studio
Prepare the programme
- Install OBS Studio on a supported Windows, macOS or Linux computer that can remain powered continuously.
- Create a scene with a licensed visual: for example, an approved album-art rotation, lyric video or background loop. Do not add artwork merely because it is easy to find online.
- Add a Media Source for the Tamil programme file or for each playlist segment. Decide whether OBS should restart a file when it ends, and test the transition so the audience does not receive a long silence.
- Add audio sources and use OBS’s mixer to watch levels. Leave enough headroom to avoid clipping and listen for silence at the beginning and end of every file.
- Use deterministic filenames and playlist order. Keep a separate log of the item currently playing so an operator can identify what was on air after a restart.
Configure the stream deliberately
In OBS, open the stream settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Select an output resolution that matches the programme you actually licensed and produced; scaling a low-resolution file upward does not improve it. Select the codec and rate-control mode supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current guidance, then run the unlisted rehearsal.
No numeric bitrate targets for each resolution, a universal keyframe interval or a single codec recommendation are specified here. Do not copy a value from an unrelated tutorial. Use the current settings shown by YouTube for your chosen resolution and frame rate, and record those settings in the runbook so a replacement operator can reproduce them.
Watch the outgoing bitrate and dropped-frame counters during the test. A stable local preview with a failing upload is still a failed livestream. If the source file is interlaced, variable-frame-rate or unusually large, test it for several hours before committing to a 24/7 schedule.
Make OBS restartable
- Configure the operating system to start OBS after a reboot and log in to the streaming account without exposing the stream key in a shared script.
- Use an operating-system service, watchdog or scheduled task to relaunch OBS when the process exits.
- Set a UPS or other power-protection plan for the computer, router and modem. Test recovery by removing power under supervision.
- Keep a spare copy of the scene collection, media paths and configuration. A disk replacement should not require rebuilding the show from memory.
- Have an operator check YouTube’s preview and Content ID notices, not just whether the OBS window is open.
OBS itself does not make a home connection reliable. A power cut, operating-system update, ISP outage or full disk can end the broadcast while the programme appears healthy on screen.
Use a dedicated hardware encoder
A standalone encoder can remove a general-purpose desktop from the signal path. YouTube’s verified-encoder list includes AJA HELO Plus and other hardware devices. The exact setup depends on the model, so confirm the device’s required inputs and its supported H.264 or HEVC profiles before purchasing.
Check these specifications before buying
- Inputs: HDMI, SDI, file playback or another input that matches your source.
- Transport: RTMPS or HLS support appropriate for the YouTube workflow.
- Recording: whether it can save a local copy when you need an archive.
- Remote monitoring: a secure way to inspect status without visiting the rack.
- Recovery: what happens after an ISP outage, power loss or encoder process failure.
- Thermals: whether it can operate continuously in the intended room and rack.
Connect the licensed programme source, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and perform the same private rehearsal used for OBS. Verify that a network interruption causes a predictable reconnect rather than a silent stalled session. Keep a spare power supply or replacement path if the channel has an operational obligation.

Use managed cloud hosting when the home setup is the risk
A managed cloud service moves encoding, storage and process supervision away from the room where your computer and broadband connection live. You still need to verify the provider’s current uptime record, recovery behavior, storage limits, geographic delivery, pricing and rights-handling workflow. A cloud location does not transfer your music licences or Content ID responsibilities.

Design a 24/7 continuity and monitoring runbook
Monitor the signals that predict a failure
- Encoder process health and restart count.
- Outgoing bitrate and dropped frames.
- Audio silence, clipping and unexpected level changes.
- YouTube’s live preview and connection status.
- Content ID warnings, claims, territorial notices and takedown messages.
- The currently playing file and the next scheduled item.
Set an escalation path: who receives an alert, who can replace a track, who can stop the stream, and who contacts the rights owner. An unattended channel still needs a human decision-maker.
Plan for power, ISP and process failures
Use a UPS or equivalent protection for the encoder and network equipment, and test recovery after a deliberate power interruption. Test an ISP outage and a stopped encoder process separately. Record how long the system takes to reconnect and whether YouTube creates a new session. If the recovery behavior is not deterministic, schedule a human check after every incident.
Rotate sessions instead of assuming one endless event
YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. Do not assume that a single 24-hour session will archive or recover exactly as you want. Create a rotation plan with planned handoffs, fresh event metadata and a logged transition point. A handoff should be rehearsed with the real playlist so the audience does not receive duplicate hours or an unexplained gap.

Keep the playlist deterministic
Use a fixed order and log each transition. When a process restarts, decide in advance whether it resumes the current file, starts the next item or begins a defined safe slate. That decision matters for royalty records, listener expectations and the ability to identify the material that was live during a claim.
Understand Content ID enforcement before launch
YouTube scans all live streams for third-party content. If a match remains, the platform may warn, temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A valid licence is evidence for the rights dispute; it is not an exemption from automated matching.
For licensed third-party material, ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If an alert identifies a recording outside your ledger, stop or replace that item promptly and contact the owner through the escalation route you documented. Do not wait for a second warning while the same track loops.
Live Content ID matching is an advanced partner feature. YouTube requires global rights and exclusive ownership for that use case and may warn, replace the feed with a static image or terminate the infringing stream. Your own operational plan should therefore assume that detection can be imperfect and that a human may need to intervene.

Troubleshoot the failures that matter most
The stream never activates
Likely cause: live streaming has not finished activating, the channel is unverified, or it has a recent live-stream restriction.
Fix: verify the channel, enable live streaming in advance, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, and check the preceding 90-day restriction history.
YouTube shows a connection but viewers hear silence
Likely cause: the media source is not routed to the active mixer, a file has a silent opening, or the source ended without a restart action.
Fix: watch the OBS or encoder audio meters, listen to the private rehearsal, inspect every transition and configure a tested fallback or replacement item.

Likely cause: the process is alive but the upload path is stalled, frames are being dropped, or the source decoder has stopped.
Fix: compare outgoing bitrate with the YouTube preview, inspect dropped-frame counters, restart the encoder, and test the same file locally. Add a watchdog that checks actual output rather than only process existence.
A licensed song triggers a Content ID interruption
Likely cause: the relevant owner has not allowlisted the channel, the licence excludes the territory or replay, or the matched track is not the recording covered by your document.
Fix: stop or replace the track, capture the claim details, compare them with the ledger, and ask the rights owner to confirm allowlisting. Do not rely on a credit line or a territorial block to prevent another match.

Likely cause: the encoder, router or modem did not recover, or YouTube created a new session that the operator did not monitor.

Fix: protect the equipment with a UPS, configure automatic startup and reconnect behavior, and rehearse the complete recovery path. Log the new session and verify the current playlist item.
An archive is missing or unexpectedly short
Likely cause: the event exceeded the documented automatic-archive window or a session rotation failed.
Fix: design handoffs around sessions under 12 hours, verify each archive after rotation and retain your own licensed programme recording where the contract permits it.
