You can run a continuous YouTube broadcast of recorded wildlife clips by feeding a sequenced playlist into an encoder connected to YouTube Live Control Room. Create the stream in YouTube Studio, add its stream URL and key to the encoder, check the preview, then start the broadcast. For a dependable archive, record locally as well: YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.
Plan the archive before you go live
Check footage and audio rights
Use only clips you are entitled to publish. Keep a record of permissions and rights, including separate clearance for music or other third-party audio. YouTube’s livestream terms make the streamer responsible for having the necessary rights for both live and archived content and for complying with applicable law.
Make the sequence understandable
Arrange footage so viewers can follow it: for example, rotate among camera locations or time periods, and add labels such as capture date, site, or species identification where known. Periodic narration or educational context can help explain what the archive shows. These are editorial choices, not YouTube requirements. Keep metadata and permission notes alongside the clips so you can identify their source and publication status later.
Create and configure the YouTube encoder stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live streaming tips before scheduling.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the server or stream URL and stream key shown for the event into the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or include it in overlays, screenshots, or clip files.
- Load and test the clip sequence. Configure an encoder that can reliably sequence your files and repeat or advance through them as intended. Test playback locally first, checking transitions, overlays, and audio. The exact looping controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube’s setup guidance does not prescribe a particular program or configuration.
- Inspect YouTube’s preview before going public. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the picture and sound are correct, then start the event. YouTube recommends preparing and testing encoder events in advance.
The official setup guidance describes the YouTube connection process, but it does not establish a specific encoder, required computer, bitrate, resolution, or hardware specification for a 24/7 wildlife playlist. Choose settings your encoder and connection can sustain, then validate them in a long-duration private or unlisted test before relying on the system. Do not treat a short test as proof of uninterrupted operation.

Plan for a 24/7 broadcast and a separate archive
YouTube’s archive guidance says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24-hour broadcast is therefore not a dependable way to preserve the complete program on YouTube.
If keeping every hour matters, record locally while streaming and maintain a separate backup of those files. YouTube recommends checking the local archive file. Confirm that recording is actually progressing and that completed files play, and make sure your storage plan fits the recording settings and the amount of footage you intend to retain. Shorter stream sessions may be one workflow choice, but YouTube does not prescribe a session length or guarantee an archive outcome.

Monitor the stream and prepare for interruptions
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting and confirm the public watch page is accessible after going live.
- View the stream from another device, including a mobile device, and listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly loud audio.
- Keep an eye on picture quality, clip transitions, overlays, and local recording progress during operation.
- Write down a recovery procedure for encoder, computer, network, or power interruptions. YouTube’s guidance recommends operational checks but does not guarantee uptime or specify a redundant 24/7 architecture.
A UPS or external storage may be useful parts of an independently designed setup, but YouTube does not require or specifically endorse those products. Backup power can address some brief power interruptions; it cannot prevent a network or platform outage.
Understand monetization separately from copyright permission
If you plan to monetize, rights clearance is necessary but does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams and reviews channels as a whole. Under its channel monetization policies, reused material may be ineligible when republished without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value; repetitive or mass-produced content is also addressed by its inauthentic-content policy.

Make the channel’s relationship to the wildlife camera archive clear and give the presentation genuine context. A label, overlay, or occasional narration may help viewers understand the material, but no single addition guarantees monetization approval. YouTube’s decision is distinct from whether you have permission to publish the footage.
