You can run a study-with-me livestream from India using YouTube Live Control Room and an encoder such as OBS Studio, but a single broadcast is not guaranteed to stay live indefinitely. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours; for a longer schedule, plan sessions and archive handling around that limit, and monitor the stream rather than treating “24/7” as a platform uptime promise.
What you need before going live
A “study with me” stream is a regular YouTube livestream with a study-focused scene; YouTube does not offer a separate study-with-me mode. You can stream a desk view, a webcam scene, or a designed scene with a software encoder. YouTube supports encoder, webcam, mobile, and console livestreaming, and says expensive equipment is not required to begin. See YouTube’s livestream eligibility and format guidance.
- A verified YouTube channel with no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says livestreamers must be at least 16 years old. If a channel has an active restriction, do not try to evade it by switching channels. YouTube eligibility details.
- A stable outbound internet connection that can sustain your selected stream bitrate, plus a way to monitor the stream’s picture and sound.
- A camera or other video source if you want a live desk view. A webcam is optional; you can also create a scene using equipment you already have.
- An encoder such as OBS Studio if you want control over scenes, overlays, or multiple inputs. OBS is free and open-source; download it from the official OBS Help Portal.
- Video, music, and other material you have the right to stream.
Choose the stream format and schedule
Encoder or webcam
An encoder such as OBS is useful when you want to combine a camera, desk view, timer, or other scene elements. YouTube’s webcam option is a simpler route if you want to stream directly from a camera without configuring encoder scenes. Choose the format you can reliably operate and monitor.
Horizontal or vertical video
Horizontal video gives you a wide frame for a desk and room. YouTube’s format comparison says vertical live streams can be discoverable in the Shorts feed, while horizontal streams retain clickable links in chat and support live pre-roll and mid-roll ads. Features can change, so check the current format comparison before deciding based on discovery or monetization features.

Schedule in advance
In YouTube Studio, use Create → Go Live to set up or schedule the stream in Live Control Room. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, and viewers may opt in for notifications. Give the stream an accurate title and description and use a scene that reflects your actual content. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the scene in OBS. Add the camera or other video source you intend to use and check the framing, lighting, and audio. If you do not want to show your face, compose a desk-focused view or another scene you have rights to use.
- Create the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. Choose the event settings and confirm the audience and visibility options are appropriate.
- Copy the connection details. In the Live Control Room, copy the stream server URL and stream key into the corresponding streaming settings in OBS. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your event. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains the relevant controls.
- Set a bitrate your connection can sustain. YouTube’s streaming advice recommends measuring outbound upload capacity, leaving headroom beyond the total stream bitrate, and accounting for other devices sharing the connection. The page recommends 20% headroom; check the current YouTube streaming tips for current guidance. Do not choose settings based only on download speed.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm the incoming picture and sound in Live Control Room before starting the public event. Test the complete setup in advance, including the stream’s visibility on channel and watch pages and on a phone if that matters to your audience.
- Go live and keep monitoring. Watch for audio problems, a frozen picture, or dropped frames. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend encoder preparation and continuous audio/video monitoring.
Plan continuity and replays around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That documentation does not promise that a single 24-hour stream will remain live indefinitely or that a longer broadcast will produce a complete replay. If keeping an archive matters, plan sessions around the documented threshold and check current behavior in Studio before relying on a longer event. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

For a long-running setup, test the actual computer, encoder, camera, router, and internet connection you intend to use. YouTube advises leaving bandwidth headroom and monitoring stream quality. OBS notes that dropped frames can indicate insufficient or unstable connection capacity; if Wi-Fi is unstable, try a wired Ethernet connection. Ethernet can help with that problem, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. See OBS connection troubleshooting.
If power interruption is a known issue where you are, a UPS for the computer and router is an optional continuity measure, not a YouTube requirement. Suitable runtime depends on the connected load and battery capacity; test your own equipment rather than relying on a generic runtime estimate. No India-wide internet or power reliability figure should substitute for checking your specific location and connection.

Protect the stream from copyright and policy problems
Use original or properly licensed music, visuals, and other material. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace a stream with a placeholder, issue a warning, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast if a match remains or a strike applies. A license does not necessarily prevent a Content ID interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
YouTube’s livestream terms say creators must have the necessary worldwide rights for live content and comply with applicable laws and regulations in the territory where they stream. That is a general platform obligation, not a conclusion about a particular Indian legal or tax requirement. Read the YouTube livestream terms and seek location-specific advice if you need a legal determination.

Understand monetization and originality
YouTube lists advertising, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible livestream revenue features. Availability depends on monetization status and feature eligibility, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Watch Page ad and Premium revenue also requires accepting the Watch Page Monetization Module when eligible. See YouTube’s livestream monetization guidance.
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams. Its policy page records a July 15, 2025 clarification that repetitive or mass-produced material is “inauthentic content”; the page says the reused-content policy did not change in that update. A recurring study format alone does not establish a violation, but make the stream genuinely yours and do not present copied scenes or mass-produced loops as original work. Troubleshoot common livestream problems
The encoder will not connect
- Check that you copied the server URL and stream key for the correct scheduled event, and that the encoder is configured to use them.
- Confirm the event is ready in Live Control Room and that the encoder is sending a feed before you try to start the event.
- If you suspect the key was exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
The stream drops frames or looks unstable
- Measure upload speed and reduce the stream bitrate if your connection cannot sustain it with headroom.
- Pause large uploads or other heavy network use on the shared connection.
- If Wi-Fi is unstable, test a wired Ethernet connection. OBS lists unstable connectivity and insufficient bitrate capacity among causes of dropped frames. OBS troubleshooting.
Viewers report missing sound or a frozen picture
- Check the encoder’s audio meters and source selection, then listen to the Live Control Room preview or the public stream from another device.
- Confirm the camera or scene source is active and that the encoder has not frozen. Keep monitoring during the broadcast rather than assuming a successful preview guarantees the rest of the session.
The stream is interrupted after music or another clip plays
Stop the potentially matching material and review YouTube’s notice in Live Control Room. Use content you have rights to stream; if you are licensed but Content ID still interrupts the stream, ask the rights owner about allowlisting your channel. A license by itself may not stop automated interruption. YouTube copyright guidance.
